How does the game fit the theme?
Nothing can go wrong - if something goes wrong you die and magic is chaotic and unpredicatble

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I may have reused a sprite or 2 as a base for something other. Other than that - music, graphics, whole code was made during the jam

I wasn't really sure what was happening most of the time but it was fun playing around with all the mechanics! The art wasnt too bad either! I think if you give a bit of telling on what to be having fun with i think itd be nice :D

Needs more player feedback. I was not sure what was happening most (if not all) the time. Love the art style! Like the core mechanic idea, but needs more tutorialing and indication of what is happening, but it has potential.

Super nice submission! I loved the art design of the game. Great work :)

Interesting mechanic, but needs a lot of polishing. Well done

It has a unique system. It was hard to tell if I was doing any damage, this would have been a nice addition. Great job though!

The concept was intresting but the game was kinda too hard and i just felt like i wasnt doing any dmg. cool art tho

Interesting concept and cute wizard sprite

Drawing each of the spells was really unique, and I enjoyed seeing all the different enemy sprites. Your character sprite and animations were also quite cool. Perhaps more effects in the battle (like sound and animation) could lift the game further. I enjoyed playing though. The game didn't lag at all even though there were like 1000+ enemies on my screen which is really good. Well done!!

cool idea of drawing your own spells, maybe needs more effects to make the spells feel more impactful

Cool and nice idea for a game! I really like it! :D
The idea of forming your own spell is really awesome! I always love magic-themed game!
Maybe the thing you can improve is the overall visual, I want to feel magical and powerful whenever I wield my power. SFX also would be nice to add for satisfying effect and feel to it.
Really nice system you have here! I hope you guys can develop this much further in the future! :D

cool idea with drawing skills, very nice job

This is a really cool idea, I suck at it; It’s like vampire survivors but with drawing, I like how you limited how much you could draw with each ability accordingly good game

This game was really cool! I like the idea of drawing your spells and it's fun to add the explosion to it. Idk if I was just bad at the game or didn't fully understand it, but I wasn't able to survive for more than like 10 to 20 enemy kills ever. Nice work on the game it's cool!

Developer

I wouldn't say skill issue, tbh 10-20 enemy kills is pretty good too!

The learning curve should be improved and the ease adjusted, but yep.
Thanks for playing :3

Liked visuals and amount of enemies. That’s insane. The game lacks some SFX. Steps, explosions, enemy death ets. It’s really take away from immersion.

Very good idea! I loved how you expended Vampire survivor, however it is lacking some feedback when you touch/kill enemies! I couldn't tell if my shots landed or not. (Also, the game lagged very bad when drawing long & quick lines)

Developer(+1)

Damn it did?
How did it look, if I may ask, cause I didn't notice this bug anytime.

And thanks for playing!

When drawing spells, at the start you can't really draw much. But if you move your mouse very quick you can draw very long lines, and when run it lagged very badly. I can provide more explanations if these were not clear. Let me know!

Developer

Alright...
Drawing fast was a thing, true, not sure why this thing was lagging tho, cause from my understanding it is the same as drawing small ones in terms of memory/time complexity, so idk xd
But still thanks :3

I went back to try, it seems it is the explosion that triggers the lag. I draw the big lines,  put an explosive on some lines and when the projectile reaches the end, it freezes/lags

Developer(+1)

Aaalright, thanks for testing that :3

Also, i'm curious, I saw that you used SDL, what language are you using ? Did you do everything from scratch or used a engine ?

Developer(+1)

C++ from scratch as I wanted to try it and figure out the layout so that I could plan later on how to create working framework

Submitted(+1)

Wow! I I wish you good luck then! I love C++ and low level languages but they require quite the work!

I love the idea! I like how you managed to combine art with the goofy horde survival genre.  The artwork is nice and cute, and the mechanics are pretty well thought-out. Some of the balance and mechanics are a little rough around the edges, and a little tough to figure out, but it's a jam game, so who cares if it's imperfect.

The only other thing I'd like to note, however, is that the music in the background could use some variety. I love the song, and once all of the instruments come in, I think it's an absolute banger, but when it's just the first part, it feels like it's just the same few notes repeating for a good 20 or 30 seconds. My suggestion (whether you choose to update this game or make more games going forward) is to just take your main instrument, and for every other measure, just move each note up or down by 1 note. This can do wonders for making your music nicer to listen to and less repetitive. This is a just a suggestion though, and I am not very well educated in music (self taught solo dev moment), so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Overall, I enjoyed the game, I think your idea is super unique, and I think it's executed quite well :)

cool spell-crafting mechanic, but was not executed well enough to be enjoyable, unfortunately. but still very cool entry tho!!!

It's really hard to understand how to play even with the tutorial, but the concept of drawing your spell was fun !

Unique and interesting draw spell mechanic! I want to see your game grow bigger in the future. Really have the 'Noita" chaos vibe!
