How does your game fit the theme?
The game is based around going down a mysterious pit, in a sense, diving deeper inside the earth.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
The graphical assets are made from scratch by me and my team, but some are not, like the sound effects.

I really enjoyed the game! I would work on the sound to make the game feel more polished. Great tutorial too :)

this movement is so addicting and i have no idea how you even made the tutorial enjoyable, amazing game!

Submitted(+1)

Great and very fun game! Enjoyed a lot of it, even though it was very hard for me (couldn't even beat the tutorial xD)

The grappling hook physics were perfect, and I really liked the level design. Good job!

Enjoyed the game although I was unable to finish it, really enjoyed the swinging  but I found the double jump to be relatively pointless as most of the time I was moving down too fast for it to do anything

Hi, thanks for playing and leaving feedback! In future versions we'll think about adding more sections where every mechanic will be equally useful. Stay tuned! :D

It's definitely a challenging game, but even after I died many times I still wanted to play again and again. The game controls well and the pixel art looks nice. Well done on the submission!

Awesome

devilishly difficult, but tight controls and a bit of a twisted sense of humor!  love it!

Developer

Thanks for playing our game, glad you liked it ;D

I died so many times learning the controls but once I did it was pretty simple to descend. I love grappling hook games, and this was fun to play! I liked the little news clipping pop up whenever I died, that was a nice touch and quite funny.

We only had a week to build these games so none of them are perfect, but I'd have loved more audio with the game., it would have helped build the atmosphere a bit more.

Developer

Thanks for playing our game! Audio was added in the last hours of development so it is not perfect at all, but we plan on adding much more ambient sound (and even a soundtrack) in a possible future update! :)

Your grappling hook shoots out very quickly, which is nice. I didn't see much opportunity to swing around on it though, whenever I tried I ended up swinging into a spike, and it seemed much simpler and safer to nudge down slowly. The character also feels very heavy, which could be why I had trouble building momentum for a big swing.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! :D

Very fun game, I liked to grappling mechanic! I feel like the character accelerates too fast, it took me a while to get used to the controls.

Also the Game Over screen is not designed well in terms of button placement, me and my friends did not realize you could press the RETRY button at first, we assumed that was a title or something xD

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! Yes the death menu was slapped together without much thought, in hindsight (my friends who playtested the game told me the same criticisms). It will be improved upon in future versions by making each button more recognizable! :D

Game is very good! The movement lends itself to so many complex techniques and such. With time, a game like this could become a speedrunning game. I did my best to master the jump, dash and grapple as much as possible in the time I played it. Might just go back to this one to play again!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it so much! Yes, we made it so it was also fun to speedrun! In the future we plan on adding many new mechanics, and tweak those already present to blend them even better with the gameplay, so stay tuned! :D

Really nice, compact, and well-made. One of the most polished games I've tried so far. The only thing I would add is an audio track in the game to create more atmosphere. The attention to detail in the UI is also excellent.

I got to the bottom by spamming space and grappling hook while hugging a wall and got out the map...

Developer

Yes, we forgot to put something to prevent the player doing that...gues it's an effective strategy, tho😅

We will iron out bugs like these in a future build!

Tends to happen alot in game jam games :/

Nice and hardcore concept! Good Job!

Wow I didn't expect a Getting over it type of game, it's great and it is so easy to die hhhh. I like the game mechanics.

Developer

You got it, that was one of the games we took inspiration from! Glad you enjoyed! :D

Cool mechanics that tie into the theme very well! I would have liked if the dangerous elements (spikes, crystals) were a bit more noticable since there were times that I died and had to take a moment to see what killed me. I was also confused why I would sometimes be able to double jump and sometimes not, maybe it was tied to the momentum. I also would have liked to be able to control my character in the air, if even a little, to be able to micro-adjust my landings last second - but I totally understand if your vision for the game includes not being able to move in the air. Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! Yes, the double jump is tied to momentum: you can only perform it when the yellow icon in the bottom left corner is lit up, before reaching a deadly amount of momentum (to prevent jumping a second before landing to not die, making all other mechanics useless). Also there is the option to control the character in the air by dashing left or right (LShift), and you can use it if the blue orb in the bottom left corner is lit up (once per fall), but it's very powerful and tends to be useful in larger movements like avoiding big obstacles. We will surely look in making more adjusted air options in the future! :D

I really enjoyed the cutscene at the beginning! However the player accelerates way too quickly which makes it hard to be precise. Dying is a bit... disgusting to say the least. All in all, a very promising concept!

Submitted(+1)

Very good game overall, it is very difficult though.

Very cool concept and fun gameplay. I really like the idea of keeping track of momentum and having fall damage being the main threat in a game, but I feel as though the cues could be a bit more clear. It wasn't immediately obvious that the wind sound effect was tied to high momentum, so for a good chunk of time I was looking back and forth between the percent counter and the character, which isn't that great (it got much better once I was able to focus on just the character). This could probably be avoided with visual cues, things like wind particle effects to go with the sound, or a red border that appears if you're going to fast, or a sprite animation on the character that makes him look scared (since he should be the focus of the player's attention anyway).

A few other minor things, the checkpoints should probably activate when you pass the level they're on, and should absolutely have a visual change when you do activate them. The tutorial might be better if it's a bit more like the main game (maybe it could be themed after the last cave the protagonist explored), and the death barrier needs to be lowered. And I personally think some of the spikes could be made a bit more obvious, they look great but blend in with the background a bit too much when going at high speeds. And this last one is an incredibly minor (and somewhat petty) nitpick, but in my opinion the newspaper that appears on death should replace "found dead" with "presumed dead", since "found dead" implies that other people just casually meandered into this cave that no one's ever successfully explored before.

That said, the graphical style is amazing, the gameplay is very satisfying, and I really like the foundation for the story (maybe it could be extended so that you find the earlier expeditions that the prologue mentioned).

Overall this is a very solid base for a game, and incredibly impressive for something that was made in a week. It's definitely something that could be developed into a larger title.

Developer

Thanks for taking the time writing all the feedback, even the most minor nitpick is precious, because it's incredibly useful for us to know the problems and inconsistencies in our game! I noted down everything you've mentioned, because yes, the plan would be to update this gradually and make it better and better, and who knows, maybe turn it into a full game someday! :D
