How does your game represent Mode?
The original idea was to make a game in the style of Mode7 SNES games, but eventually the "mode" aspect became the gameplay mechanic of being able to switch between plane mode and robot mode

Man, the retro aesthetics are absolutely ON POINT for this.  Sadly I think the sound was bugged for me, and my game kept crashing, but the music and sounds I did hear were spot on, and I'm wondering where you found/made them.  I am also unsure what I should be doing gameplay wise.  Aim lock only seems to kick in at very close range.  Close enough for enemies to shoot you down pretty quickly, and I don't know if manual aim worked for controller, or at least there didn't seem to be feedback for it.

The attention to detail I think really makes this game stand above and beyond a lot of other retro-nostalgia based games.  Very cool.  I liked the little stretching effect for the title.

Thank you, the music tracks are XM module files made in OpenMPT with samples made to imitate SNES game instruments (or at least that was the intention), most sound effects are mashed up and edited from freesound.org samples and heavily reduced in quality, some were synthetized. I believe it might indeed be a fault of the module music player addon for Godot that the game crashes, I've been trying to fix it though and hopefully that will be solved by the next game update

Lock-on is the main method you'll use to attack enemies, especially in this version since the manual aim doesn't work properly and will just shoot where your gun is actually pointing instead of the center of the lockbox. Having seen people play the game it seems to be tough to get the hang of but avoiding the enemy fire is crucial, hence why the damage is so high, I plan to soften the learning curve for next update. I'm not sure what you mean by the manual aim not working specifically with controller and the feedback, though? I actually developed the game entirely with controller and added KB+M last minute, haha

I ripped off the logo stretching from Megaman X, although mine is way lamer

You have good taste :P  I actually used the guitar from the Megaman X soundfont in my own game!

I used SFXR to make my sound effects and it doesn't quite get there in terms of sounding like a SNES game.  I just am not super experienced with audio.

Fantastic art and design, very well done! Lots of polish in the presentation and gameplay. Loved the controller support, always happy to see it in a jam. I'm actually surprised how badly I got messed up by not having an inverted Y though (or at least the option for it) lol. Playing a game in that style meant my brain immediately went to the forced inverted Y and I had a super time getting around. Probably less of a problem for young folks though lol. Really great job!

this game is super sick! awesome aesthetic, very nostalgic. and the gameplay is smooth and fun albeit difficult. really loved my time with this one. awesome job!

Really nostalgic Game-cover. brought me right back to PS1 era :D The game-play was fun and it run smoothly.  Amazing job!

This game immediately caught my eye, this is really up my alley. I think this game is really impressive and challenging. Cool style and cool idea, great work!

This game was a blast. I enjoyed this game through and through. Amazing Job. The playstation look and feel were the icing on the cake.

Awesome job! Love the effort to create a cohesive and effective look reminiscent of the early play station, everything down to the box art thumbnail is perfect! Also I'm a big fan of the mech thing and you did it spectacularly. Lots of fun, great job!

Some drinks with me and my brother and we were engaged with this for ages. For people who play games inverted this took awhile, but changing to robot from the get go and using mouse and keyboard mostly worked out. So hard this game, but it was a lot of fun. We cleared the first 2 levels, but immediately failed the train one. I guess we needed to not fall behind or something which robot mode didn't help with. Visually so good, massive nostalgia. Well done

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks, I've added a settings menu where you can invert the aim for the next version that I'll release sometime after the jam is over. I'll try to make it more evident that you shouldn't lag behind the train in that mission too

Absolutely fantastic game, definitely one of our favorites this jam. The art style, sound, and especially the opening make it feel like a legit ps1 game in the spirit of Armored Core or Virtual On. Eagerly looking forward to future renditions of this. Great job!

Such a cool idea and incredible presentation. Really tough too! I would love to give this another shot if the crashes get fixed.

Very impressive, it looks really good. The controls were a bit difficult, but overall I liked it

wow this game looked outstanding!! everything about it from the environments, to the player, to even the menus had such extreme levels of visual flair. the gameplay seems like such a cool idea, too, but i suck at it! the plane controls are really difficult to get used to, and it can get a little nauseating. if the plane was easier to control, and if it was easier to deal with enemy attacks, i think i would’ve had an incredible time playing this game. i hope you keep working on this, this is really something special!

What little i got to play was great! It kept crashing for me though.

Transformers meets Armored Core. Love everything about this, the music when you get into a level, the artstyle, the vintage feel. But the game is very hard so I keep dying lol, and then the game crashes so I have to reboot every time...

Definitely gonna chip away at this until I beat it, but in the meantime, I must say you've done a great job on this!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you, I'm aware of the crashing and plan to fix it, for whatever reason it only started happening on the exported project whereas it ran perfectly on the Godot editor

Rad stuff. You nailed the feel and design here, paired with some killer gameplay and great, nostalgic sound design. Switch between modes was extremely satisfying. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

Woah, some of the best visuals I have seen in this jam. The clouds and sky especially. I sucked at the game but I will for sure be back to try again. I hope you polish it up and make it a full release, I would definitely buy.

If I could give a 6 in presentation I would! Felt like I was playing a game from the Saturn/Ps1 days. Game play was also really fun, and cool. Had hard time with the jet mode, so stuck on mech mode most of the time. Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Great job with the graphics and music on this one. Takes me straight back to the 90s.

Cool take on the mode theme, going between evangalion style mecha and fighter jet. Intense action, and I'm intensely bad at it, but I still had fun. I was a little bit better at it with controller, so definitely should try with controller if you have one around. Cool graphics and retro style reminiscent of Star Fox

Outstanding presentation on this one. Armored Core feel to this. The artstyle is amazing! well done!
