Cool concept! I like the story and the gameplay is interesting, but the Firewalls seem way too strong, especially given that you can prevent viruses from spawning. Reminds me a bit of Into the Breach in a way, which is a good thing.

This game is great! I really dig the sci-fi post human aesthetic. The gameplay puzzles are interesting, although you may  want to tweak either the resource management or puzzle layout, as firewalling all the potential entry points becomes a dominant strategy. The presentation is excellent though and I really appreciate the little touches like the command line text and sound effects.

Really like the idea of this! I would just prefer if it would be possible to skip or fast forward the text or having it in one piece instead of these smaller ones, as I always felt being taking out of the actual game.

Cute game! Nice looking graphic and original mechanics. And the presentation as well (maybe a bit too long)! Although, as many have commented, I found it quite easy to beat.

Like the surprisingly dark story, and the presentation was very well executed. Definitely getting that slick sci/fi vibe from it all. I like how you added a subtle rotation to the BG in the gameplay, little touches like that are evidence of multiple quality passes over this game. Like others have said, pretty easy given how the energy refills each turn but not frustrating and fun to play!

Great jam entry!

Thank you very much! I've been learning how to effectively polish games recently, so it was great fun to train my design eye and try it out in a game jam. I'm working on a post-jam version because I think the gameplay has potential, and the tweaks I've made to the difficulty curve have already made it much more fun. I'm very happy you enjoyed it ๐Ÿ˜„

Submitted(+1)

That sounds great man hope the post-jam version gets a lot of plays, keep improving and developing your craft :D

I liked the presentation (esp the "monitor" framing) but the game was much too easy. With five energy, and replenished energy each turn, I usually ended a turn without using all my free enegy because there was no point.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I enjoyed putting in little details like the story screen, but the difficulty curve got no testing at all. I wish I had run through the whole thing a few times before publishing. But I'm working on a post-jam version and it's already way more fun with just a few tweaks.

Cute little game! Too easy though... I never had to use the "stun" feature, and there always were  more than enough walls to isolate the viruses.

Also, when there's only one virus left of each color, there's no point continuing -- the level is essentially finished.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I think the gameplay has some potential if I make a number of adjustments and additions, so I'm already working on a post-jam version with much better AI, more difficult levels, and more action options for the player. It's already a lot more fun - I just wish I could post it now!

The game map is literally a board of circuit and the icon for the virus ships and abilities really fit the looking! Although there's a visual glitch that after the firewall was placed a slot and it went expired, putting another firewall again will not display at all, fortunately it still works. I also found out that you can just block the incoming virus ships with the firewall, so next turn they will remain "i" at the edge of a slot until the firewall is gone. But because the game will consider you win if there's no more virus ship in the board and the incoming reinforcement don't count, so I get a quick win by doing this. I think speedrunners will love this if they happen to find this game and record it to post on Youtube.

Btw, good entry!

Developer(+2)

I fixed the visual glitch, but I forgot to reupload it, so thank you for reminding me! It actually was intended that you could delay the spawners at the edge of the map, but I didn't think about how that would interact with deciding the level was over - oops!

I'm very proud of the theme and polish I put into my entry this time around. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Good stuff! I really like the mechanics of the game, although I do think it was a bit easy; player has a bit too many moves imo, the difficulty could have scaled more. Otherwise, great job!

Developer

The post-jam version will definitely have a lot of balancing tweaks applied - there's a bunch of numbers I can adjust, so there isn't really even a lot of programming to do for that. But I'm waiting until after the jam because unlike bug fixes, I feel like that wouldn't be in the spirit to update something as major as game balance yet. ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm glad you liked it!

I beat the game and enjoyed its unique vibe from start to finish. You do need to figure out a way to make the puzzles challenging but possible. At present, they are either impossible (more that four ships spawn directly beside another ship of the same colour) or trivial (four walls are adequate to seperate them all.) We need something in the middle. I see a lot of potential here, though.

"26 seconds before the deadline". Oh the anxiety I would have had. I'm glad you got this submitted in time.
Developer(+1)

I've done a few game jams before and they all go like that ๐Ÿ˜‚ One day I will learn to submit an hour before the deadline!

Nice game! I like the the music, and the terminal effect was pretty cool. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you! The gameplay is a little lackluster in my opinion, but I've been learning how to polish games recently, so I enjoyed putting my new knowledge to work to make this game shine as best I could. ๐Ÿ˜„

First Level is just pressing Next lol or just enclose them in a wall (is a bit overpowered, 5 per round). And would be nice to be able to skip the text scenes.

Developer(+1)

There was scarce time for playtesting, unfortunately. I'm already working on better levels and a way to fast forward the text scenes, but I don't want to upload gameplay changes until the jam's over. Thank you for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome! Now is working. I like the concept and how is connected with the story, I only wish it was a bit more challenging.

On the very first turn, when placing a wall (or walls) and hitting Next Turn nothing happens, looks like a breaking bug.

Tried 2 times, with same result.

I understand you can update the game to fix breaking bugs.

Thank you so much for finding this! As is typical in game jams, testing and debugging takes a bit of a backseat. ๐Ÿ™‚ It turns out it was an oversight in the export process. I have since corrected it, re-uploaded, and tested it myself. Should be good to go!
