These blends ( i assume theyre blends?) are phenomenal, seriously wtf how did you do this in 9 days lol.
Dialogue is great and very stanley parable-esque, definitely had some great comedy. Very glad you could import meta-jokes about chromab into the game.

Gameplay is very smooth, I had no issues at all. In fact, mechanics that could be annoying are actually very well implemented.

such a great polished project.

Developer

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I basically worked non-stop for the whole nine days on that! Took the time off work, got up early, worked till late & pulled a few all nighters and I went ALL IN with it. Just wanted to really push myself personally to see what I could do. Probably not the best idea in hindsight, I was totally burnt out afterwards - but still, I really enjoyed making it! I’ll be making a dev log video on how it was made on my YT channel at some point

Not sure what you mean by blends? Animations? Lighting? Just let me know and I can tell you how they’re done 👍

I mean all the 3-D models for the game and the material/BDSF work to texture them. Blends as is Blender, but I guess you did not in fact use blender lol

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Ah, of course. I didn’t make the connection then! I was thinking code-wise… Yeah, I used blender, modelling all the environments & objects from scratch, and it did take up most of the time to be honest. If you look at the environment carefully though, you’ll see I reused stuff as much as possible, there’s literally the same pipe being used everywhere, scaled, rotated, you name it just to make it look different! 😂

I'm so impressed the that you made this 9 days, I was hustling to make my buggy mess. I followed your YT & Itch page, if you make a full indie I'd love to see it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks - yeah, it was quite a marathon to make it in the time, I was totally burnt out afterwards! Lol. Back to normal now though thankfully 👍

Thanks for the follow, I’m sure I’ll be making indie stuff for a while yet  I do have a VR game planned next up

This was a lot of fun. I loved the self-awareness spread throughout the game, and I was not expecting the ending. The animations and cutscenes were very impressive through the game, especially considering how short a time period the game was created in. I also enjoyed the ‘battle system’, although I wish the drone fought back to give some more consequences to that part of the game (and to make me feel a little better about killing him after hearing what was said about him afterwards). Your main robot was very cute, and the game would not have been the same without them and their comments. Overall I thought it was really good :).

Developer

Thanks for the comments - glad you enjoyed it 👍 As for the firing back thing, I was thinking about it, and if this was a normal game I definitely would’ve had it in. However, as this is a game jam, I’ve found that people tend to stop playing the game after they’ve died and then move on to playing the next game in the Jam, so for this I just wanted the game to be a bit like a play-through to show all the parts, and the penalty is the fact it takes longer if you’re not doing too well at it 😅

Submitted

Fair enough, I’m glad to know there was a reason for it. Seems like you’ve thought about a lot of things with this game, and it’s turned out well because of it

Good little 3D puzzle game that felt like "The Stanley Parable" I dislike the pickup system you're allowed to hold an item for like 1 second it made the game hard, and the game itself wasn't hard just the pickup system was. other than that I enjoyed the game, it was fun and pretty funny at times.

Developer

thanks for the feedback - but you can hold an item for as long as you like in the game. Which part are you referring to? You single tap to pick up, then press again to release.

Submitted

It wouldn't let me hold the items

Developer (1 edit)

Which item wouldn’t it let you hold? It seems fine for others and myself - are you tapping once to pick it up? It would be good to understand what’s happening considering the game lets you hold items for as long as you want.

If you’re talking about the plug at the start, then it’s on short lead and you have to use the extension cable to plug it in… the voice over tells you this as you’re playing. Do you have the sound on while playing?

Submitted(+1)

Amazing in every facet. Played great, objectives were clear and told in a comedic manner and you had me giggling along the way. Achoo!

Developer

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Briliiant on all fronts, Ian! Funny, compelling, smooth controls. A completely satisfying experience.

A wonderful submission. Top tier!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it!
Comedy is a bit tricky sometimes, it works on some people but not on others..: glad you’re one of those it worked on 👍

Loved everything about the game except the first character. Whom I found to be exceedingly annoying for some reason. Despite my gripes with that one npc, I think all the characters were well voice acted and the game was phenomenal. Next time you use voice clips though, you might want to space them out more. The first character sounds a tad repetitive and their voice is kinda annoying, but fortunately there are two rooms where you can escape their unceasing banter so overall it was a great game. Even if it was a tad short, making 3D assets is a lot of work and I can appreciate that. Reminds me of Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist.

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback. I did actually try it with less dialog, but it felt quite empty in comparison … I was going for a ‘Trover Saves the World’ vibe, butI think longer gaps between the phrases might work for you if think it’s annoying and gives a break in between

However, it’s a little odd that you say it repeats though, I’ll have to check that - none of the dialog is repeated in the game (they don’t loop or anything) unless you mean you restarted it from the beginning again, then yeah, it’ll say the same thing.

Submitted (1 edit)

None of the dialogue repeats. Its just that some of the phrases are repetitive, like the first NPC saying that was unexpected after anything happens. For some reason the first NPC really annoyed me, I didn't have any problem with the other NPCs, and though I hate to say it, the first NPC along with the rest were voice acted well.

Developer

Ok, I checked the VO files and he only says ‘unexpected’ once when the power goes off - so I’m not sure what you mean there… he does say ‘press the start button’ a lot, but that’s kinda the point, he’s getting annoyed that you’re not doing the thing he’s asking

Sorry that you found him annoying though, perhaps it’s the pitch shift, or the amount of dialog - I only have one voice, so I had to change it somehow for different characters you see? So I went for pitch shifting - I’m no good at impressions 😅 Thankfully I didn’t go down that route as  he could’ve ended up as a really bad Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jim Carry 😂

Submitted (1 edit)

My bad he only says it twice. Don't worry Its just a personal problem, and I think the first npc being a tad annoying was sort of the point. Sorry about the whole hassle. For some reason that NPC is a lot less annoying in the second playthrough! Probably because I was going a little too fast in my first playthrough. Nice voice acting work though. Can't believe you did all the voices!

This game was really well made, and I like how everything was introduced. The sfx when you throw boxes at the bot was pretty funny. The game was very original and had personality, great submission!

Thanks Sevadusk! Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Cool concept and art. Too bad I couldn’t finish due to control issues (web version). I’ll have to give the downloadable version a try when I’m on windows next.

Developer

Yeah, it seems the browser version is a bit sensitive compared to the PC build - not sure why. But I did want to add a mouse sensitivity option once I tested it in the browser, but I literally ran out of time! Would be a good addition for the future though 👍

I finally got to play the Windows build and quite enjoyed it.

I like the humor, and the art design.

This game reminds me astrobot. Humor and designs are really similar. A nice submission!

Game is looking very good ! Love the details on the environment. Dialogues are a biiiit too much, a bit too spammy for me. But very nice job overall !

good job 5 stars here

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed playing this! It was funny and the animations were fluid as well! Great job!

Submitted(+1)

I am so sorry for breaking your game, sir. I'll be fixing that button right away.

If only fixing stuff in real life was so funny! If you have a character that is talking all the time, it can get very grating over time, but you did pretty well and avoided that!

I don't know much about things like animation, and model and stuff, but I liked them. Especially the boss fight!

Sound design is good as well. I enjoyed the "achoo" sounds. They were awesome. The dry humor-  can get draining after a while (and it is hard to make the player invested in the story if the world doesn't care about itself), but in that short dose it waas great! I found myself smiling a lot.

Especially at the achoo's. One would think that this joke would get old after a while, but I found it still funny at the beginning and at the end. Good job!

Very impressed by the quantity and quality of the dialogue. Both the writing and the delivery were excellent. Are you a professional writer perchance?

Models and lighting are sweet too.

I appretiate how you took some relatively simple mechanics (grab/throw and teleporting items) and made some very varied minigames out of them.

Only thing I can think of that would improve the game would be a mouse sensitivity slider (I have quite a sensitive mouse so it could sometimes be hard to aim and click on the small boxes

Overall, very strong and well thought out submission. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thanks very much! No, I'm not a writer... I just kinda wrote a little brief then just waffled on trying to be funny - lol.

I really enjoyed your Normal Pong - what a great concept!

this game makes me feel bad about my game dev skills (or lack thereof)

Developer

Oh man, this game certainly wasn't made to make anyone feel bad - it's made to made you laugh, just enjoy it for what it is :)

We're all at different levels and stages of our game making journey - I really liked your game, it was funny unique.

Love the realistic sneezes

Developer

Thanks, I mo-capped the sneezes from a VR headset & controllers :)

You have no idea how much I've been laughing at. Your skill of twisting the plot is different from others.

I feel like scares like Portal or Stanley Parable when I walk through the aisle, but they twist everything on and made me laugh.

Submitted(+1)

Incredible experience! It reminded me of Valve's sense of humor in HL and Portal. The game concept is very clear (no spoilers) and the look fits the experience perfectly.

WARNING: minor spoilers ahead. The personality of the characters is differentiated, which for such a short game made me feel that its world was greater and rich. The third character deserves its own game; holly molly, that's world building! Also, I think that you did really well at the mechanics, in the sense that they extend the length of the experience by being combined; so A, B and C can become AB, AC, CB and ABC too. The end might look a bit tedious for some, but I found really enjoyable because I found myself playing hard because I wanted hard to play...  So self-reference gets into the gameplay itself, not just into the story, and makes the experience very rounded. And the very end, I guess you might see something like that coming, but it felt like a confirmation that I was being absolutely trolled and was enjoying to be so. So 5/5 from me!
