Be prepared for lots of poor copies/variants of your game to appear shortly after you let your source code out.  Script kiddies find it far easier to butcher something that works than to write their own thing from scratch.

You might want to anonymize your source code before you release it, so the crappy games don't come up with your name on them if the script kiddies haven't realized they should update it.  Considering the stupid things some people may do with it, you could end up with a lot of the wrong sort of attention.

Perhaps more to the point, if you've selected not to see adult contents, why are you being shown 'adult' tags.  It can't be that hard to maintain a blacklist of adult tags and simply remove them from the tag selection, then filter out any adult games that make it through in the normal tag search (i.e. furry or cats).

On the metadata page, there is a 'has sensitive content' check box.  Adult games (not just sex games) are supposed to check it (and it forces the "Adult" tag).

The other tags are just to help you sort the porn from the horror and pick your kink. ;-)

The rating and discussion side of itch seems to be dying.  I've got links on the closing pages of my game, inviting folks to come back and give feedback, ratings, see what else I've got and even a mild suggestion that they pay, but feedback and ratings seem to have dropped over the last year or so... 9000+ download and, maybe, 20 pieces of feedback.  Maybe it's the web app, but it seems to be shifting more towards a download only platform, which is much less valuable to developers.

So what defines a 'popular' game?

The default display seems to be latest game sorted by 'Popular' - which appears to be stuffed with horror games.  both the 'New and Popular' and 'Most Recent' categories seem to have a better balance of games.  So have the folks posting the horror games found a way to game the system and artificially inflate the popularity of their games? Or are people really coming here to download/play numerous horror games?

On the rating site, many horror movies are classified as Mature or Adult due to various themes such as horror, gore, and supernatural themes.  Should games containing such matters also be pulled under the Adult category? (Or is adult just restricted for Sexual games?)

Published by Buka Entertainment. Russian and still trading according to Wikipedia  so you need to talk to them.

Try restricting yourself to only 2 or 3 decisions that will affect the story line.  It's important to understand the development cost of each decision - doubling the size of the project vs adding a short scene that'll influence a later scene (or even not do anything other than be a part of the experience).

Try this one.  Should be good for 7 days.

It was written for a maths based game jam. I was planning to build a game, but ran out of time and just put a cleaned up description of the game play up as an entry.

If you'd like to turn it into a game, go ahead.  Just give me an inspired by credit.

Hi.  I'm looking for some music for a new project I'm working on.  It's an NSFW Xmas tale, so you have to be 18+.

If you're interested in offering a piece or two, contact me on Discord https://discord.com/channels/1134464426637000785/1163867039597875220

I'll give you some more details and access to the demo (the intro and first days play) which currently has no music.

I'm thinking sort of Xmas Punk, but I'm open to other ideas.  I'm going to need, at a minimum, a theme song, a short dance loop, and half a dozen 2+ minute loops in rising intensity/tempo, but I can fit more music in if it's available.  I can offer a link in the credits for the game and the demo and, if I get any sales, a share of the revenue (which might be enough to buy you a coffee...)

Due date is in 6 to 7 weeks, so maybe pieces you already have.

You can find my existing work at https://purplepanties.itch.io/ A Day By The Sea is my latest project, and this game will get similar music treatment.

Fair enough. Good luck with the jam...

Any restrictions on NSFW content?

Ok, games out there.  24 hours, 3k+ views, 450 downloads, 12 new followers ...

For those looking to practice their translation skills the game features an experimental user translation feature.  Just down load it and you'll have all the bits to translate it properly.

I'd be willing to lend a hand.  Some Ren'py, some VN experience.  Mostly what I publish in NSFW, so you'll need to be set up for that.

I'm a solo developer and I've got a new project coming out, another NSFW Hentai visual novel.  See  https://purplepanties.itch.io/log/devlog/566613/a-day-by-the-sea  (you need to be an adult (18+ with adult access on inch.io) to get in. It's a devlog asking for playtesters, not the game itself, but it has some sample graphics.)).  You might find some of the content a bit confronting, there's a mythos ghost story in there.  You could also check out my other projects https://purplepanties.itch.io/ to see if this is your sort of thing. before you get inolved.  Alabaster Caitlyn is probably the closest in feel, but there's no furries in the new one.

I'm looking for a couple of people to play test it over the next few days.  Basically downloading it, playing it through, looking for problems (text, story, graphics).  The game is complete and ready to go, but I'd like some other eyes to give it a look.

I'd also be willing to work with an artist.  All the images are rendered (from Koikatsu CharaStudio), but there are a few places where there are rendering or modelling artifacts.  Someone willing to go through the pictures and fix up the more obvious issues (without significantly changing the look of the picture - almost all of them are part of a series) could help improve the game.  There are over 400 images though, so just the images you really think need work.

The game goes up as 'pay what you think it's worth', so I'm expecting most people to take the free option.  I can give you early access to the game, a mention in the credits and, in the unlikely event I get more than a few dollars, a small share of the proceeds.  I'm hoping for 1,000+ downloads, but we'll see.

Hopefully, this is a link to a discord channel: https://discord.gg/U7UQhVEnT  for the game.

Excellent game.  Be great to see it expanded to something longer.

That's a pretty good take up.  Feedback is pretty scarce on itch, unfortunately.  I find putting a link back to itch.io at the end of the novel helps a little.

Can you make the demo good enough to be gun but limited enough it isn't enough on its own?

First thing I'd do is design the data definition layer.  This is where you will define your world and RPG system.

Then you build an engine to interpret and animate a world from the data definitions.  Unity or Godot might be a good place to start.

Why? So you can change the game engine driving your world without having to recreate your world.  This means that when you eventually have to change your underlying technology, the cost of doing so will be low.  There are vast numbers of games out there that are essentially dead because they are welded to obsolete gaming platforms (like RPG maker).

Then start small - maybe a small valley, a couple of character classes, a couple of monsters and a couple of quests.  Define it int he data layer, then implement enough of the game engine to get it working.

Then release it as version 1.  Hopefully you'll get some feedbak and, if you've published the data definition layer, some folks might start making their own worlds.

iterate, adding support for more new things and making the game world bigger.

At some point you'll need to add support for running over multiple federated servers (because the world will get to big to have everyone in the same server), so keep that in mind.

15 mins to play through if you don't rush.

If it asked you for your userid and password, you should change them immediately.

Yeah, looks normal for what I've seen.  Big surge when it's first released, then most of the active browsers that want it have got it (or looked at it and decided they don't want it), so you're down to a few new browsers turning up....  Regulars may download updates if they are still playing the game, but it becomes harder to keep track of unique downloads one you start putting updates out.

Think I've played that one :-(

What are you expecting for your femdom?  She's in charge of the situation, and has him virtually tied up and blindfolded?

The more you resist, the more assertive she becomes...

There are a couple of story outlines that fit, so something along those lines will eventually turn up.

Spiders are furry ;-)  Doesn't it cover any human/creature hybrid?

Can you explain NTR/Sharing content?

Amongst my story ideas there are a couple of Futa stories.

I try and make my covers reflect the games contents.  There are so many scam games on android where someone has spent longer making a flash cover than they've spent on the actual game.

Think of someone playing the game in an open office space, where other folks can look over their shoulder.  If the visuals or sound might be offensive, then it's probably not safe for work.

Usually it means that if you're going to make money on the back of their work, they'd like some of it...

Ummm. Don't know what you were trying with the game page (https://rovshan.itch.io/noteplay3d), but the effect (to me) is that it looks like it was made by a 12 year old, which sort of sets my expectations about how  well it'll work and play :-(

What is special, significant or unique about your game?  Why would I want to download it rather than any of the 1000 other (no offense intended) crappy shooter games out there?  What would make it worth downloading?

Yeah, looking for a few event and ambient sounds for a couple of games.

Found what I need for now, some of them through your engine, some from a custom sound pack I downloaded a while go and one or two from a collection I've built up over the years.  Mostly they all needed a bit of messing around with in mixcraft.

I'll be back to try your engine again though when I need some more it, seems to save a lot of searching around.

Already come back to it, looking for a hypnotic sound.

For Mountain peak I was looking for a windy, open ambient sound track. Seemed to, maybe, have some contamination from my previous city alley search, also looking for ambient sounds.

Nice function, although I did get some odd results searching for 'mountain peak'.  Would be nice if it displayed a name for each clip, to make it easier to remember which one was which.  Doesn't have to be the clips actual name, but it needs something textual for those of us that can't cope with 100 similar images anonymously laid out in a grid.  A sound profile (the squiggly line) would be even better.

Actually, I think diversity is pretty good to focus on.  If the bulk of your players (I suspect they are mostly male and mostly straight/lesbian) are not comfortable with their avatar character, or the NPCs they are given the option of interacting with, then your audience for the novel immediately drops and, if you didn't warn them, you may attract negative reviews and ratings.  So an important question to research is just how open minded your audience is.

There are also technical reasons why racial diversity is important.  Sometimes skin tone is the only way you can work out which bits belong to which character... ;-)

Thanks. Good to know before I stick something where I shouldn't ;-)

You'd have to add some code at the start of the game that would query a web server (itch?) to find the latest version of the game, parse the response and compare the games internal version with it.  if it didn't match, branch to a 'please update me' screen and, maybe, open the download page in their web browser.

Unless you've got a server running high scores or it's a multi-player game, it seems like mostly it'll just annoy the user.

Any chance you'll be sharing the results?  Some of those questions are one's I'd like to ask...

If I tag a post as Adult and include NSFW content, who will it be visible to?  Only members with Adult content enabled or anyone on itch.io?
