Free & better audio search using AI

I wanted to make it easier to find & create free sound effects & music, so I built clip.audio

I need some feedback on the site - what features do you want me to build next, could you find what you wanted on there, is this worth me continuing with, does anyone need this?

clip.audio indexes & searches around 2 million sound clips across the  below sources. The text based audio search understands the content of a clip. For example, can find the sound of someone walking through snow with boots on, even if a sound is not labelled/tagged correctly.

Full list of sources:

  •  Freesound
  • gamesounds.xyz
  • Free Music Archive
  • BBC
  • large free bundles such as SONNIS GDC, We Sound Effects etc.
  • Extracts & searches sounds from YouTube videos that can be used under CC-BY.
  • Paid sounds like Epidemic, Free to Use Sounds & Paramount

Please note that this is a search engine. We do not own the sounds or claim to, we just index, search, help you find an asset & help you credit the original creator properly.

Nice function, although I did get some odd results searching for 'mountain peak'.  Would be nice if it displayed a name for each clip, to make it easier to remember which one was which.  Doesn't have to be the clips actual name, but it needs something textual for those of us that can't cope with 100 similar images anonymously laid out in a grid.  A sound profile (the squiggly line) would be even better.

that makes sense, we’ll add a better player which will show the progress, clip length & waveform soon, I expect that could help. We’re looking into smart ways to label tracks, but that could be a bit further off.

Out of interest, what were you expecting to get for “Mountain Peak”? Also, are you searching for sounds often & would you come back to this?

Already come back to it, looking for a hypnotic sound.

For Mountain peak I was looking for a windy, open ambient sound track. Seemed to, maybe, have some contamination from my previous city alley search, also looking for ambient sounds.

Yeah, so it takes a bit of fiddling with the prompt (as with any of these AI tools right now), but I tried a couple & got this on after prompting with "windy mountain", how does this (and the other similar sounds) sound: https://www.clip.audio/?q=freesound%2Fid_%3D156414.flac

In terms of the mixing with your previous search, 2 possibilities there:
1. I think the model is just confusing 'wind' with 'traffic noise' since it hasn't quite got the skill to differentiate yet
2. There's a bug right now where if you do a few searches in a row, it jumps back & shows results from a previous search. Will get this fixed.

Out of interest - are you looking for sounds for a game? What would you normally use to do that (Freesound?) & have you found clip.audio useful in any way vs. other things you've used?

In terms of hypnotic sounds,  did you get what you wanted?

Yeah, looking for a few event and ambient sounds for a couple of games.

Found what I need for now, some of them through your engine, some from a custom sound pack I downloaded a while go and one or two from a collection I've built up over the years.  Mostly they all needed a bit of messing around with in mixcraft.

I'll be back to try your engine again though when I need some more it, seems to save a lot of searching around.

One more thing - it's worth trying the similar audio search. So once you get close to something you like - hit the 'magnifying class' Icon so narrow the search down to similar sounds & the quality/consistency of results should improve massively
