What do you like about your game?
I loved a lot about making this project, but I think my favorite part was brainstorming unexpected things for the player to encounter. Also enjoyed composing game music for the first time.

This was a cute game! The ways you 'broke' the conventional 2D puzzle platformer type deal was really fun -- I just wish there was a little more. I liked how emotive boxboi is too, hahah

Cute game! It's funny to see the Boxboi's reaction to the weirdness happening around. Game was very simple, very small also which is probably my main criticism, not much variation other than the black background and the gray bricks with the very simple design of the box. The jump also had no height control, which isnt a big deal given the game didn't really require any precision (the only part with platforming was optional) and it was mostly about the funny stuff going on, not the movement. So yeah, a game being small isn't really a big deal, especially in a game jam. Good job overall!

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I definitely wish the game was longer too, as I had a lot of ideas but it took me a while to implement them. For example, figuring out the shader effect to have Boxboi appear as a shadow when "behind" the wall and appear as normal when behind the gate took me almost two days to figure out (first time using a shader). I'm not a very experienced game developer and this is the first game jam I've ever participated in. I learned a ton from this experience though, and next game jam I'll hopefully be just a little bit faster. :)

Fun little game "breaks" -- I like when the player gets to feel like they broke the game and the light puzzles were nice. The main music loop is fitting but a bit short -- some theme and variation might break it up over the course of the full experience. Also cool how all the levels were interconnected :)

Totally agree about the music. It was my first time making game music so I kept it super simple, but I'm excited to make more varied stuff in the future! 

Love that you noticed the levels were interconnected - wasn't sure how apparent that would be. I even made sure that the pieces of the box strewn on the floor were all where they should be when you later encounter a copy of the second room... Probably unnecessary, but I would have noticed

Wow! don’t judge a book by its cover! Up until the first twist I kinda expected this to be like a dozen other game jam games I’ve played before, but that was infinitely more interesting than I was expecting! Short and sweet but very subversive

Fun short game with solid gameplay and subversive puzzles. Indeed there is a lot of polish on the assets. I think you could have expanded on the subversive themes and expand gameplay more. But as demonstrations, I think they were clever.

I do find the music loop a touch too short to be engaging.

Clever mechanics! Love the way you go about guiding the player.  The first puzzle caught me off guard, made me chuckle. Well done!

Mechanics wise, the only thing I'd suggest is adding coyote time and jump buffering (especially with the jump quest). Other than that, everything else was solid!

Thanks for the compliments and for the thoughtful feedback - especially the suggestion of adding coyote time/jump buffering! I've heard of that technique/mechanic before but it completely slipped my mind. :) 

I definitely noticed that the player movement and jumping in your game felt really smooth, but couldn't put my finger on why. That was probably part of it!

But yes, coyote time/jump buffering does wonders for playability and feel! Definitely something worth looking into. There's also a lot of good info on the techniques implemented in Celeste if you wanted to look up how they got their movement so tight, snappy, and responsive.

Cool, I kind of didn't bother absorbing that the text announces unexpected things and was caught by surprise with the unexpected things as a result (enjoyably). Very few levels but I guess just enough for average attention spam given to a jam game.
