  • Mirrors are a staple of horror games but I like how reflections are used in this game - not quite knowing if a reflection is a real or false one helps add to the sense of danger!

I think it's a cool idea, and I like the setup with the abandoned amusement park and urban exploration. Though, the controls left me feeling quite dizzy, and I really wasn't sure what to do.

Very cool voiceovers and the mirror premise is quite neat. The other sounds felt quite empty and there was a lot of opportunity for more sfx (item pickups, enemy approaching, mirror noises). I found the player control to be a little nauseating and disorienting,  it felt like we were controlling the map and not the player, and a few more recognizable landmarks around the map would have been very welcome as it all felt rather 'same-y'.

Developer

You are totally right. Many sfx were created but were not integrated due to time constraints. Same for having landmarks in the map, some were added in a rush at the last minute, but not enough to help the player navigate.

It was a fun and tense play! The guitar sound repeating the close notes made me feel like there was always something around. I liked the voice acting and especially the menu sounds (oof). I got a bit lost on the beggining but I managed to find a lot of the items.

I liked how the mirror system that you implemented and the voiceover combined with the background.

I am little lost though when running around.

Interesting idea. I got a few multiple reflections which felt like bugs rather than features and I think a bit more guidance / feedback as to what is going on would have got me into the game a bit more prepared. I enjoyed the voice work. Not entirely sure why I died when I died, nothing I saw on screen but hey it was tense walking around. Good job.

Developer

As we were developing the game, we understood why mirrors are usually avoided in games : they are both difficult to implement and difficult to use in game design. So there a few bugs, true. As for the guidance, it was rushed at the end, so the labyrinth is harder than it should be. We choose that your energy level would also be your life, but it is not very clear, agreed. But thanks for playing, and that you enjoyed the voices :D

I thought this was a cool concept, and I really appreciated what you did with the mirrors. The control scheme/perspective made this more disorienting (as a person would be in this scenario), which I thought was a cool choice.

If I was visiting a haunted carnival, I think I'd avoid the house of mirrors. Bad choice, Renรฉ.

Fun premise for a game, though! The unusual perspective actually works well here, I think, because it makes the maze just a little bit more disorienting. The short delay on the attack makes things a lot more tense, because you really have to pay attention to see if the reflection is doing something unusual.

I really enjoy how creative this game was. The reflection part was really cool, and the style was pretty top notch! Great stuff!

Nice concept and I see you managed one feature we wanted to add to our game aswell, the flashlight attack. I also like the mirrors, give it a more creepy vibe.

The tank controls were actually an interesting choice here, they definitely add to the feeling of disorientation you might've been going for.

Well done!

Really good, love the reflection system and the one that chases you.

Oh I like this concept. It managed to get me spooked a little when running around and seeing an reflection of my character. And if my understanding of the mechanics is right it was also nice that you could in a sense "fight back", so you're not stuck just hopelessly running around. Sadly I couldn't get well adjusted to the controls, don't get me wrong, the controls were snappy and responsive, very good on that part, but the camera spinning caused me motion sickness. No fault of you guys, you did a good job regardless! ^^ Keep it up!

Excellent sound design, and some really interesting ideas! Having your reflection come out of mirrors to pursue you is very novel. I do think there should be a bit more player guidance for a maze game, though. Without a clear goal, and with environments that look pretty similar, you end up just wandering around until you get your soul feasted upon. But overall, really spooky work!

Developer(+1)

You are right. We had a deadline and rushed a bit of decor just before the end, but it lacks orientation guides, I agree :)

The voice acting was really fun lol. It was a little difficult to navigate but I guess thats part of the challenge. Overall I enjoyed it. Great effort!

Submitted(+1)

Well that's genuinely unsettling lol. Nice work!

Intriguing that was a terrifying atmosphere. Also another unique concept, well done.

What. The. Hell. The sounds, the music. Absolutely horrifying, really good work. I liked the mechanics and mirrorings. Really good submission. I wasn't sure about the task and why I lost. Anyway, nice work, GG!

Thanks ! The goal is to escape, but the labyrinth is very hard, even our dev team struggles to find the right path, and end up lost in the dark or caught by โ€œfalse mirrorsโ€ x)

Always love when a game has voice acting in it, really creative mechanic and fun execution.

Very nice introduction to the game, it got me hooked -- I kept trying again to go deeper and deeper into the maze because I wanted to find out what happened at the end! One minor suggestion would be to avoid spinning the world around the player (or maybe just slow it down?) because it ended up making my head spin. Overall a great entry with a very original idea and a fantastic introduction!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words. I thought spinning the world around would make it more difficult to orient ourselves in the maze, and I think it does, but indeed it is too sharp. Honestly, even ourselves struggle to reach the end, the balancing could have benefited from a few adjustments.

Interesting the mechanics of the mirrors, very original. I was a little lost in the house. Try my game (playable in the browser), it has stairs and a flashlight, but you have to find it. :-)
