I love the idea, and I agree with others who said adjusting throw aim would be a cool addition =)

Always love a light mechanic, works well here

Nice game,  I think throwing lights would be better n some other key so the movement is not hindered by throwing torches, but great game. Good job!

Good idea!

Liked the light effect. Nice job!

Fun game, the character art and sound design really work together in this one to make a coherent experience.

I really like the mechanic of throwing the light to lighten up the path and do some platforming; I think you could turn this into something full fledged! Keep it up!

Nice game!

Digged the throwing light mechanic

I really enjoyed the game, artwork and music were in my opinion really fitting and cute sounds and dialogue with the oogabooga guy in the start :D Kept killing myself with X wayyyy too much, on purpose when starting but then when trying to press C and misclicked :D Funny though, but sometimes frustrating, thankfully the progress doesn't go down!  + Thanks checkpoint Chicken!!

I think aiming your torch would make it even a bit better! One thing to "fix" would be the dialogue, I didn't first realise did I have to do it with mouse or the keyboard and it was accepting both (at least on the first dialogue) and on the I think 3rd level it was only accepting mouse click. Maybe only use either one, and maybe show better for the user the selecting and accepthing that (just like, press space to say or something).

Jon that is such useful feedback! Thank you so much! Happy you enjoyed the checkpoint chickens lol.

For the dialogue I just slapped it on at the end using someone's asset so yea don't really know how it worked. After my current jam I'm doing I'm going to come back to this and fix up everything that everyone suggested!

I found 3 switches in the second shadow dimension - then I gave up. I like the mechanic but if you keep building on it I would love to be able to adjust the aim of my throw - because if you have to go up there is no way to light that path and I would also love if you would illuminate parts of the maze once you used the switch thats in there so you dont backtrack accidentaly...

Developer

I actually love that idea.

Thank you so much, I may just do that - after the jam of course, no extra features!

You should check out my game and tell me what you think

I like the light mechanics. Good platforming.

Cute game! It was a bit frustrating to get through the first part of second level because there wasn't really any indication of where you were supposed to go, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if that's the kind of feel you were going for. I got stuck in the second part of the second level because one of the blocks for pressing one of the switches got stuck. Overall, though, really good work! The music is amazing, the mechanic is interesting, and I really love the expression on the character sprite's face. I also loved the random NPCs who were lost, gave kind of a creepy, hopeless feel to the game, in a good way. :)

I have killed my self quite a few times in this one. While I do like the mechanics, I kind of wish when you toss a torch it reveals a larger area a round the player before reducing the area on where it is tossed may improve the players decision instead of having to constantly spam the toss button. Still executed well, Well done

Thank you so much! Will check yours out shortly !

It is pretty decent and fun. Although, one thing I don't like is how the X key for suicide when it right next to the C key for tossing a torch. I find myself committing suicide from time to time when things get intense. I suggest having the key bind suicide to the key on the right side of the keyboard, like the L key.

Developer

Thanks!

The suicide button was a bit of a troll to be honest - but thanks for playing! Will be checking yours out shortly! :)

Great game. had lot's of fun. Well done

The concept is quite interesting, but I honestly got a bit frustrated at stumbling round in the dark, so probably not a good fit for me.

Just one note, change the keyboard setup a bit, I died a few times while trying to throw a flare because the death key is right next to it (unless this design is deliberate)

Good job on it, it is really well built

Fun game. I like the concept and the lighting you used was great. Good job

Fun concept, nice theme integration, cute visuals and pretty cool music. I didn't manage to beat level 1, ran out of patience because I kept dying :D

Very cute. Great music. Got a glitch where I put the box in a place I couldn't use it and forced to stop. I really like the light mechanics. Nice work! And, thanks for sharing.

Developer

Where was the glitch? The boxes return to their spawn if they are too far from their position.

Thanks for having played - will check yours out shortly!

Great concept well done !
