A quite fun little platformer! I had a fun time playing it through! You can check out the VOD of my playthrough here if you're interested.

I agree some of the spike hitboxes felt punishing, and the jump had a hard time registering on the vertically moving platform/pillar where a little bit of "coyote time" might have helped it feel a little smoother. But honestly, those are just small nitpicks! Great job, especially solo. It felt like a really complete experience!

Developer

Thanks a lot. It's really inspiring.

Nothing wrong with a classic platformer! This was fun, I enjoyed the double jump mechanic. I do think the spikes were a little frustrating, since they could kill you even if they were almost gone. But maybe I'm just bad at the game haha. Also - I loved the death animation!

Thank you 😊

Great game, I enjoyed it a lot! It's difficult, but you can always get back to where you were quickly. Also, I like the interpretation of the theme! One issue that I found is that some collisions seem to be detected twice. For example, if you keep jumping into a coin, it's going to keep respawning and you can pick it up forever. You should probably set the "disabled" property to true in CollisionShape2D when the player first collects it.

Good job, keep it up <3

Developer

Thanks for your review. I didn't face the issue while testing, though I will check this out. Again thanks for your suggestion.

A well made platformer. It was forgiving enough that I could get to the end :) Still the mix of challenges and different mechanics kept the game interesting. The artwork is good, and music is apt. The intro sets up the game with good motivation. Good job overall!

Also good job on the interpretation of the "Dream" theme!

Thanks a lot. Your feedback is a inspiration!!

knowing that you're on your own, i think it's a great job! some levels were not fair, but i don't care because i like the difficulty. keep going and learn about Celeste's design! you should learn a lot about platformers :D

Developer

Thanks for your suggestion.

That is quite a cute game with a pretty decent size and a story ! I think the collisions on the floor spikes could be a bit fairer, there are a few times where I was sure the floor was clear and I still died. But, fun nonetheless. Maybe there could be a coin counter, since one of the goals of the game is to get rich. I agree that a jump button would be preferred over "up", I grew up with joysticks with only one fire button, so jump on "up" was pretty common, but I think jump button works better.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you play my game .

One stage in particular, the one with the bounce pads, got me quite a few times. But a super fun game regardless. Good work!

Developer

Thank you. True confession :- I was also stuck sometime in the same level during testing. But could not solve it due to time-limit.

I am terrible at platformers so had a difficult time but had fun nonetheless. I enjoyed the art and world design. I wish the music wouldn't reset every time I died though because I died a lot.

Developer

Ha Ha!! Never fear to die again (in game obviously)! I will change music every time!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice spin on the theme! Very cute intro movie! I got inside the castle and stopped there after dying some more as I would like to play and rate some more submissions (so many more to go…). May have to retry in the future to (hopefully) see the ending.

great work, really good art, controls are fine (I would have liked a spacebar or x on controller for jump)

the floor spikes are punishing...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. I will remember tour suggestion for future addition.

Decent platformer. The art has lots of inconsistencies in style and rendering, but the level design has potential. Adjusting hazard behavior would help this game tremendously (hurtboxes, spike speed, etc). Good work!

Thanks for your valued review. I will try to improve my art :)

  • Theme:  Ties in through the  intro story
  • Fun:  The rooms all felt unique, but also still built upon each other. This was great pacing and kept me wanting to see what the next room had in store. I was impressed with how many different mechanics you were able to include.
  • Controls: Platforming controls were good, some of the obstacle hurt boxes were more difficult to avoid
  • Graphics:  Solid artwork
  • Audio: Solid music and SFX. The death SFX was funny when it happened multiple times.
  • A11y:  Some of the switches were a little difficult to see, so they could use more color contrast. The room with the key would have been good to have a locked door to indicate what it opened since the buttons were mainly used to raise  and lower things in that room. I liked having the option to skip the intro (I still watched it, though!)
  • Originality:  Again, I liked all the mechanics and the room design. This was a well executed platformer.

Loved the theme! Level design gave me "I want to be the guy" vibes, but in a good way!

Thanks for playing my game 😊

I know you said you weren't happy with the pixel art, but I like it! That's something you'll only get better at the more you do it. Strangely enough, there were some parts of the game that reminded me of Yume Nikki which, intentional or not, is pretty fitting for the theme of the game jam. There's a lot here to be proud of!

The jump/double jump both feel a bit inconsistent, which is understandable (platformer controls can be a real pain in the ass lol). Things like input buffering and coyote time might be worth looking into if you're interested in making more 2D platformers.

Developer

Thanks for your valued review. I will keep it in mind. Surprisingly, before you mentioned I never heard of Yume Nikki. But now I google it and found it is a high rated popular game. So I am really feeling proud my game reminds you the famous one.

Good job! For the pixel art I would recommend choosing a consistent pixel size across all your assets.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your suggestion. I will keep in mind.

Love it ! The art style, the simplicity, sound effects ! IDK, if it's only me, but there is a big input jump delay. But coyote time can help fix it.

In some levels I did fall backwards into the abyss (level 4)a general autoloaded container with collisions could help tho.

Congrats on your entry ! I would definitely play it casually time to time, so can you please add Linux version =D

Fun game and impressive given time constraints and being individual developer.

Neat game, I liked how you managed to pack a few interesting mechanics in like the spring and squashing the monster

Developer

Thanks for playing :)
