How does you game fit the theme?
The easy answer is you're not alone on the level😂
But for the real answer, you need to see the ending 😉

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All assets are created by me from scratch with the exception of one art tileset that I linked in the game description and the Ai-generated main menu music that I changed its pitch.

I like your gameplay when you can seen your enemy when they are come in contact with your light.... Nice Job....

Hi!

I really like this game, awesome audio, gameplay is fun!

(and I like the enemies not being really "enemies" but instead coworkers)

What I personally think would make this game 100x more immersive is directional audio coming from the moving enemies, like footsteps. That's what I would add.

Great job tho! I really enjoyed your game! I'm giving a very good rating.

Would be awesome if you checked my game out as well, thanks!

Pretty fun to play, quite like the mechanic that only allows you to see enemies when they are in your direct line of sight. The joke about finding a Jam team too. Great job. I would really appreciate if you rated our game as well.

Great game, effects, sounds. Good job!

The killing sounds were funny, one of them was so over the top it actually scared me the first time.

That being said, the menus could use a little polish. The difficulty chosen checkmark is barely visible. The buttons seemed disabled, I thought at first I had to choose a difficulty to enable them, but they just stayed the same.

The intro was quirky, I liked the sillines of it. Also, the tutorial explaining how to play felt good.

Graphics were alright, I just thought it was weird that Jim seemed to have four eyes, but I guess those were his eyebrows. The enemies never seen to react, except for the moving ones. Also, there's a collision bug when you get near walls that are above Jim. His FOV disappears, as if the light source was in a part of his body that is now engulfed by the wall. Also his head keeps on flickering, maybe something to do with sorting order of the sprite.

There was one enemy that caught me by surprise because I thought it was a wall that was blocking my view, and when I got close enough I realized it was someone (like at the top left-most corner of the map). It was nice but it also felt cheap because he didn't get me.

The audio coul use a bit more eeriness. I played on Windows build and the gameplay seemed to have no sound, just the footsteps.

The ending felt a bit cheap, not gonna lie. I felt it took the silliness of the intro cutscene a bit too far.

Overall it's a functional game that could get some more polish.

I downloaded like 10 different "ouch" sounds and that over-the-top scream is by far my favorite😂

it's randomized for every kill so you may get it more than once or never😂

Tbh I had more than enough time to polish the basic unity buttons in the menu, but it isn't my cup of tea😂

Yeah I thought the eyebrows didn't look good in such a small size😂 The enemies didn't react though was a bit intentional (although maybe a wrong move) since they aren't really enemies so it made sense for them to see Jim and be like yeah he's just walking around like an idiot😂

I tried fixing the FOV thing but since its a mesh drawn with raycasts being too close to the wall ruins that, and I assumed it's like if you run too close to the wall and put your face in the wall you wouldn't see anything either😂😂

I kinda wanted to take it over the top with the ending
I like having my games make the player feel like they're doing something good just to end up not being that

ending 2 was a normal ending though😂

For the sounds, I guess that's my bad while developing it was too loud so I decreased the volume of the background and increased the volume of the footsteps wanting to add patrolling guards' footsteps when you're near enough and wanted people to hear them but then it was scrapped of my board😂

Thank you so much for the feedback!

I played throught the game ! i expected the ending i got XD Overall it is really good, i would only work a bit more on the shadow, they feel clunky in some places and i would add a build-up for the enemies to notice you or at least a "!" above their head before it restart, i died a couple of times without knowing who saw me.

Great work !

Developer(+1)

Yeah I wanted to show the enemies reacting to you visually but the seeing guards only in your FOV made it super weird too add extra things without having to go back and edit, and everyone knows how game jam codes could get😂

But thank you for the feedback i'll keep that in mind for next games :)

It's a really nice game, there's only some issue I'd like to make you notice:

The sprites are cool but should have a bit of shadows, the layers are not ordered as they should and the main character's sprite intersects with different objects, the light should become more and more weak as it's more distant from the player, and not be a uniform circle, if you want to put a run option you should put a bar that limits it, the walking sounds are way too loud compared to the other sounds and the enemies shouldn't catch you if you're behind them

But for the rest it's a very cool game, good job!

Good game, could you please rate my game https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-8/rate/1680919 ?

Love the twist at the end. Strong entry. The FOV (I played on Normal) is perhaps a bit large, and the 'enemies' aren't much of a menace now that I know they don't react to seeing me. I suppose it would be quite simple for someone to miss one of the foes, therefore a progress indication would be helpful as well If you want to would you feel like rating my game please? Or if not then you could help the people in the need of rating catogory. What ever you choose it is up to you. Keep up the creation of fun games :)

Well done!

Developer

Heyy
so the FOV being too large is apparently something multiple people said (I wanted it to feel a bit easy for them😂)

but for the 'enemies'  not being a menace is actually intentional, bc as you saw at the end it's not an enemy😂hence why they wouldn't really react to you

now on a different note, the guards that patrol would actually only catch you if you start hurting other people which would make sense.

and there is no progression bc the game is intended to be time-based and not killing people based😂 bc the goal was never to kill everyone in the gallery ofc if you kill one person the game keeps going so you can get the "bad ending"

But thank you for the feedback, I'll definitely try out your game, and I intend to spend a few days playing the games in the "in need of ratings"
I currently have a lot on my list, I also work so the time I have for rating is a bit limited 😂
but I'll get to it I promise :)

nice plot twist

Simple concept but executed really well! Nice work

Cool entry! took me awhile to get the ending and wasn't sure that i not suppose to kill by those that are walking

Developer

Originally the game didn't have the patrolling guards but I thought having them adds a sense of suspense and thinking as you're not super sure if something's coming at you from a long hall.

Although I should have put it in the how-to that they can catch you, I didn't bc they in fact wouldn't do anything to you unless you try doing something to them😂

Strong entry, love the twist ending.

FOV is probably a bit large (I played on Normal), and the 'enemies' aren't so much of a threat when I realised that they don't respond to seeing me. A progress indicator would also be nice, I imagine it's fairly easy for someone to miss one of the enemies.

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Well

the enemies aren't really enemies 😂hence the not attacking you, the patrolling guards also only take you down if you start attempting to kill other guards (also intentional)

I wanted to add a HUD /UI display to tell how many guards exist but killing guards wasn't really the goal so I didn't wanna add an indication of how many there are😂 it's all about the ending(s).

But I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the feedback :)

I walked around and killed people. What better way to start a day.

Someone woke up and chose violence😂

Very funny game, loved the humour and definitely the sound effect. While being simple, it remains fun to move around and kill everyone.

Great work !!

Great game overall, I always appreciate pixel art games
