So fun! Not a big gamer and I loved it. The story was fun, looking forward to more of it, and I enjoyed the variety of different puzzles. I want more of the soundtrack!

I got so invested in this game that the 'Thank you for playing the demo' threw me off :D Loved the characters, the game design, and the puzzles.

Developer

Thank you for those kind words. I hope you'll play again as Junkdogs continues to develop!

Did a quick write-up on this! I remember you e-mailing me to check this out and I've only got around to doing it now!

I had no idea that Pop! would lend itself so well to sci-fi, but it does! I really liked this entry and was sad when I couldn't figure out how to go further after getting locked in the armoury room. The graphics are used well, the gameplay had a lot of thought put into it (the puzzles are fun and beating up crates was surprisingly enjoyable). The music was very nice and really enhanced the atmosphere and feel of the game.

Overall a really well-done game.

Thanks for playing silversatyr! If you're still wondering how to get out of the room: check the red boxes. Thanks for sharing your gameplay as well.

What a very well submission. This very reminds me of cowboy bebop. I really like the environment but sometimes it feels a bit empty. The puzzles were nice and easily enjoyable.  The music was nice too very jazzy. this was recommended on discord so I gave it a try and Its a lot better than most submissions lol. Very nice game! The battle system was a bit interesting and creative too! Your usage of SFX to cut from scene to scene is nice!  I like the starfox spaceship lol Oh and that title scene. Love the art, you really get a strong feeling of cowboy bebop. Especially that hiragan underneath it :D

Heya :D

Here's my fast review of Junkdogs!

The plot looks like a mix between Cowboy Bebop [for the mood], and Planetes [for the setting]. I really love them both.

The good things:

Dialogues are short but incisive, the graphics are simple but lovely.
The story is really promising, and I hope you'll continue this game :D
Music is really good and perfect for the mood. I loved the feeling they give.
Puzzles are simple, but yet interesting and enjoying.

The bad things:
There are just two bad things in this game:

1- The "escape from this room" enigma. It's no sense. I had to "talk" to every tile of the screen before getting the EXACT tile in which you've hidden the solution. This is not a great design idea, I think :(

2- The battles. In general, calibrating battles with 1 vs many using a basic RPG battle system is difficult. You have a little variety of actions, and non-damage actions are in general a double edged-weapon.

Let me show you an example:
You can heal (oh good!) but when all enemies attack you, they inflict you mostly the same damage you're getting back. So healing is pointless.
Heal becomes useful when you kill at least 2 enemies... but at that exact moment, you've already won.

I've appreciated that the barrier doesn't consume a turn. This is a good idea.

If you plan to add more battles, here are some ideas:
* Give the player more supporting actions, that don't consume turns
* Give the player non-standard turn durations. i.e. Final Fantasy X is a good idea on how to manage battles in which turns have different "timings"
* Add more strategy features: Allow the player to move to enhance or reduce damage
* Or, directly: don't make battles in which you control only one player. Adding more characters avoid most of this problems and gives a lot of variety to the battles!

Summarizing, I think this game is a very good entry and I hope you'll continue it :D

Hello Elf Games Works, I appreciate your review of Junkdogs.
I will definitely look into balancing / recalibrating some aspects of the battle system as the game continues to develop.
I will say that later in the game you will gain additional companions in battle.

Thank you again for your feedback, it's very helpful!

I enjoy the puzzles and the music is good, not to mention the dialogue feels natural and not forced. Would love to see more, or maybe even contribute in some way

A lot of fun with a big time "Cowboy Bebop" vibe.  Would love to see this finished.

Love the soundtrack, the game design and the puzzles - this is one of the best games I've played this year! :)

Nice exploration game play with interesting puzzles. Not so sure if the mix of space combat and exploration is well adviced and will not have a too small intersection of fans of either game play. But of course thanks for the auto-save before the space combat!

The fact that the fights are tough to survive are a big catch for me.  If I didn’t have strategy for tackling the amount of fighters, then I’d die. (Happened once with each new encounter.) Its not just a puzzle to play through the Space Junk but it’s puzzle to fight. Other rpgs make the fights a grind.  It was nice to feel the tension of Survival early in the demo.  Can’t wait for more.  It’s fuego.

I never play or watch Cowboy Bebop, but I like this game so much, it got solid gameplay, nice background music, the puzzle are fun, not too difficult and not too easy, interesting character and story, and the bonus music are fun to collect.

I'll echo it: Cowboy Bebop. It's got a lot of influence from it, and it's a good thing. Really nice use of the tilesets, too.

I've just finished the Demo, and I must say, I liked it a lot.

The characters' dinamic flows really well, especially in their first sentences. You managed to show their personalities in just a few words, and that's the sign of a good writer.

There's this "cowboy Bebopy" tone in the game. The music and artstyle fit perfectly with the overall space-outlaws theme.

Battle background is kinda ugly, and I can't help from thinking "why are the enemy spaceships flying backwards?" Maybe you could focus on some changes in the visual aspect of the battle system.

Simple puzzles and "look for key to open door to look for next key to open next door" stuff, but these mechanics didn't overstayed their welcome, so that's fine.

==//==

Kinda short game, but full of cool stuff. Really liked the last area, feels like a comfty place to spend time and maybe do some sidequests =)

Thanks a lot for playing! And you were spot on with noticing the "Cowboy Bebop" tone as it was a huge inspiration for me.
I'm grateful for your feedback and will definitely remember it as I continue to develop Junkdogs.
