This game makes me envious of its ridiculous level of polish.
Really cool artsyle and gameplay. Ability to reroll action is nicely balanced by losing a pip. But feels like it can be really hard to balance combat wise
This is the dark souls of dice games!
In all seriousness i've had a blast and i'm so glad i stumbled upon this game via the random submission button.
This is a cool game and fits the theme, yet the only gripe I have (if you can call it that) is that the player doesn't have that much input in the game. It feels as if you could just keep pressing z and x and that's it. I can suggest an improvement however, for post-jam, and that would be to let the equipment the player has be randomized, and then let them go through the level. Otherwise, it's a great game, and the "improvement" is only my thoughts on it.
pretty top tier game, however could be made to feel smother
Nice concept! a little slow to play, like maybe just confirm the action die instead of having the option to reroll it, seems like if I wanted to plan it out then I woulnd't want it to be a die in the first place. Cool graphics too
a very good looking entry, however there were some bugs with you being able to hit both dice at once and if you accidentally confirmed mid roll you can't proceed. would also like some more player input than just the reroll mechanic.
other that that; very solid entry! :D
the artstyle is nice
Love the art and audio.
In terms of gameplay, it is fun, but there isn't enough player input in my opinion. When I lost to the boss, I didn't lost because I made a poor decision, but because the dices didn't land in my favor.
Also, I messed around and because you can keep hitting the dice non stop, sometimes it would get all messed up, for example in the picture the dice got stuck like that, and the numbers stop being correct, for example I rolled a 1 and and attack, but it dealt 6 damage instead.
Once it even let me keep hitting the dice for quite a bit before it moved on to the next.
Still, this is very polished and decently fun, so great job on your game!
There is not much to say that has not already been said. It is a cool concept and a very well executed one on top of that. Most submissions of the GMTK GameJam 2022 took either randomness or dice quiet literal. The randomness feels a bit too random and without consideration for current conditions. But that's just nitpicking.
excellent entry! 5/5 one of my favs so far
my only criticism is the randomness like others have said, a 1 is always a terrible result and is worthless in combat while a 6 is almost always good no matter the skill, I miss some dice sides with something like "deal 10 damage but you take x damage" so I could use the 1 on these cases. To avoid players rolling dice indefinitely, you could implement some "push your luck" mechanic like a skull side that skips your turn.
Nice idea! I was thinking about attacks that only work if you roll an odd or even number.
I like mario jump bumping the block
Nice Game!
The art and level of polish is awesome! Cant add anything that has not been said below, the amount of comments speaks for itself.. Great work!
Super impressive design and great game overall!
Considering its playfulness, amazing art, matching music (Boss music slaps!) and clever implementation of a theme — I really don't know how it could be made better in 48 hrs.
All the other feedback I have is only applied to the post-jam updates if you are planning to do any.
1. [Already mentioned in other comments, sry] Bug (or feature) — you can sneak one more jump if you rolled bad on your first dice, when the knight transitions to a "type of action dice" position. It actually rolls both dices, rerolling the first one and rolling the second one for free. First reroll of the second dice will also be free in that case.
2. Game needs a little better explaining of the main controls and mechanics inside the game. As the Z/X controls always visible — it makes me think that they are possible at any moment. Only after a few fights I actually got when I can use Reroll or Confirm and when I can't. Arrow keys were discovered through half of the run. Covering that base can make it enjoyable standalone game.
3. I totally get that overall game balance is random for the theme, but if you are planning to evolve the game after — I think (humbly) that level of random should be decreased a little bit, maybe leaving a Shop outside of random core loop.
As always, take this feedback with a grain of salt, as I played it through only once and my assumptions can obviously be wrong or don't match the direction you chose. All these points don't make a game even a bit worse as a Game Jam entry though. Truly incredible work!
Great concept, great execution, great music and design. Nice job for two days !
Only thing is like RailgunZx I couldn't attack often enough and i had to stop because I wasn't able to kill a double 8 healing mosnter. Maybe I got unlucky though :)
A quick fix could be you reroll only if you want to ? So You can keep attacking if needed and the reroll is only for changing tactics. I don't know. Great game anyway !
Loved the idea and aesthetic of a "retro board medieval like" game. I still had some confusion about the hotkeys but it's a pretty good game!
The controls were a bit confusing at first. But I loved the world and the graphic direction. It was very fun to play, great job.
Very polished ! Great job !
Fantastic! I don't know if I broke the game or this was intended but I found a way to sometime reroll my dice after already getting a result haha. Anyway, had a blast! Good stuff!
