Every time you dodge roll, you randomize your loadout. Additionally, the player throws bread... the literal "roll of the dice."

Very cool game. Love both the gameplay and presentation. Really fun!

Only after I beat the game I realized that the game window was cut off from right and bottom (I thought it's an issue with the camera) and when I moved it to a bigger monitor it fit and I noticed the boss actually had an HP bar :')

So much fun! The art is great and the boss is challenging in a fun way. Lots of great stuff for only 48 hours!

It is really great that you guys make with pygame in a short period of time. I have a lot of fun when playing it. Really polish game, keep up the good work.

Everything about this is great! From the smooth gameplay, to the gorgeous art, and the banging soundtrack. I found that there wasn't any good reason not to just keep rolling until I got a 6 though.

Also very cool to see another pygame submission!

Flippin amazing, great work!

Really fun to play! Pretty hard to beat the boss but who doesn't like a challenge

The graphics were so nice in this game. The boss seemed to have way too much health - I just couldn't beat it. The minigun was my favourite. I don't know if it was the must powerful weapon, but it felt like it was.

Idk why but the character was always in the bottom right corner, which made playing a little harder. The player should have always been at the centre of the screen.

Other than that, this was a really cool game, good job!

Hm, what was your screen resolution? The player should be centered, with a boss health bar on the bottom of the screen (see screenshots), but it might have been cut off if your monitor is less than 1080p.

I see. Looking at the screenshots most of the game was cropped unfortunately. I didn't even know the boss had a health bar. The aspect ratio of my screen is 3:2 not 16:9 so that might be why.

Ah, oof. Not much time for platform testing during a 48-hour jam. Glad to hear there were still parts you enjoyed — thanks for playing!

That's a sick game!

Not the most original idea for this jam apparently (heck, our game is similar, and we keep like a list of similar games in our private Discord) but very well-executed. Couldn't beat the boss after multiple attempts but still enjoyed the game! My only nitpick is with the fact that all you want to roll is the minigun, all other weapons are there just to be rerolled (except for the baguette, it's apparently for the memes).

But yeah, the graphics, audio, visual feedback - everything feels awesome to play.

I loved this game! The character was so cute and his animation were clean! The boss was a little hard (it took 5-6 attempts  to beat him), but I had fun. The music was nice, but it didn't get annoying, the sound effects were great, and all the weapons were fun. (Except the baguette. I couldn't figure out it's use, if it even had one.) 5 stars all around!

Thanks for playing and glad to hear you enjoyed it! I also agree that the artist and audio folks did a great job. The boss fight definitely suffered from “developer playtesting” and ended up a bit too hard, but congratulations on beating him!

The bread is useful because whole grains contain a variety of nutrients, including fiber, and promote a healthy heart and digestive system. Not great for fighting bug monsters though.

I'd say game needs balance tweaks and boss monster more attack styles. Now there is only beam attack that is forcing me to dodge. Overall it was pretty enjoyable experience though.

Developer(+1)

I definitely agree on the balance and attack variety! We were really running against the deadline on this one (the knife was only added in the last two hours), but definitely would have loved to have time to add more boss attacks and tweak the numbers. The pistol in particular feels pretty weak compared to the other non-bread weapons.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

Art is so cool, animations are so smooth, weapons are so different and boss is so hard! Great job!

Thanks for playing!

I liked the rolling mechanic and the feeling of shooting, especially the minigun. The boss is tough as nails however, the closest I got to killing him had his health bar empty but I guess since one hand was alive, he did not die.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Based on other feedback it does sound like we balanced the boss too hard (and you do need to kill both hands first). Happy to hear the movement and combat felt good at least!

HEY OMG my team has the exact same concept as well (roll/dodge > change weapon)!! Let's be friends hahahaha

Love the animations, the art, controls, the character feel and the amount of juicing added. So much personality shining through. Genuinely love it. Big up!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed it! I’ll have to search out all the dodge roll games when I have the time to play and rate, since it was a really fun interpretation to run with but I imagine people applied it very differently.

Glad the juice paid off, and agree the art and audio folks did a wonderful job bringing it to life.

This game has a good feedback. Shooting is pushing back, rolls are good. Visual effects are pretty. When he dies he become puddle )

Developer

Thanks for playing! Definitely fond of the puddle animation as well, the artist did a wonderful job on the character.

crap this is just my game but better

Developer

It seems like a surprisingly common interpretation of the theme (and here I was thinking I was clever!). I’ll have to find all the similar games and try them out when I have more time to play and rate.

Thanks for playing!

I've been joking with my friend that when I see a top down shooter it's an immediate 1 star for creativity, but this game absolutely challenges that. The random loadouts each feel distinct and the incentives for switching loadouts are clear. Instead of chance being something that's just tacked on its usage feels very meaningful as a way of balancing jumping and keeping someone from just sticking with that so so so SO satisfying minigun.

The only thing  that I wasn't sure about was that the boss seemed to be unkillable when it got to a sliver of health. But nonetheless this game was super entertaining for its runtime and I always felt compelled to go again after I died for a extremely reasonable and clear reason.

Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

You have to kill the boss’s hands before you can finish him off, sorry that wasn’t clear.

Good to know!

This was one of the more common ideas for the gamejam, but your execution of it is really good. I enjoy playing this. The only thing slightly off is the lack of visual feedback when the Boss is damaged.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Damage feedback was definitely on the to-do list but got scoped out for other features.
