I really liked the art and the take on the theme! The rules are still a bit unclear to me but I managed to win the game! Too bad that proceeding with the game I almost got number cards only, which basically forced me to guess everything else from the second customer onwards… I don’t know if I was just unlucky or it works as intended!

Anyway, great job! By the way, on my first attempt at the game I got stuck after the first customer with no messages or game over so I really don’t know how to point you in the right direction, sorry! The only thing I can tell you is that my customer was the pirate-looking guy with the parrot

Very nice looking game, can't figure out the rules for the life of me despite the solid attempt at trying to explain everything. I mean, there seems to be a LOT of steps and procedures here (endemic to so many card games out there) but all I could decipher here was that I was just supposed to intuit the best way of killing people by "guessing" their card? I dunno, I was just loaded down with so much information that I didn't know what to do with it all.

I assume it works just fine though, so I tried to be as fair as I could with my rating even if I'm terrible at intuiting these kinds of card games from a novice standpoint lol

Such a unique game put together, and in a week no less? Incredible work! The art style and jazz compliments one another really well, which creates an incredibly charming atmosphere.

Along with what some others have said, for a week long jam the tutorial was alot more than I originally had as an impression going into it, but the overall gameplay loop itself is interesting! My biggest issue was likely around the roman numeral cards; I ended up finding a chart on google to have along side the game as I'm not used to reading them.

All in all, amazing work! I can't wait to see any updates you all do!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your insight! We decided on roman numerals since they fit the artstyle and had a resemblance to Tarot cards. We may think of adding an option to give the player the ability to change between roman and arabic numerals though. That would be a nice change since there were people having trouble reading the numbers :).

Amazing artwork! I love the slow jazz music too, very chilled!

I wasn't sure about the cards. Why 7 in the hand and 17 overall? Is there an algorithm to make sure I can actually get enough information to complete the game or do I have to summon the gods of RNG to complete the game? It would really help to put the card you just played up next to the client's card while you're getting the result so that you can still see what it was when you get the result. I found myself quickly forgetting what I'd just played and being no better off as a result. I'm not sure roman numerals was the way to go. While they fit the theme extremely well, it just added another layer of complexity that I struggled with. Also, I wasn't sure if the Double Digits card applied to the roman numeral version of the number or the arabic version of the number.

Super cool, well polished game though! Loved all the little characters, item descriptions and theming!

Developer

Very helpful feedback, thanks!
We didn't had time to implement and algorithm so it's totally RNG, there are 38 cards in total. 21 numeric and two of each of the other types. The idea of keeping the card the player plays a bit longer on the screen is smart and we might implement. As for the roman numerals, it was because it fitted better with the art style, but yeah it might make things more difficult (the double digit applies to the numeric version, we now see that might not be clear xD).

It's great when we receive so much feedback from the players, thank you for it and for your kind worlds and support!

No worries! Do give my submission a rate if you get the time! I'm almost off the "Needs more ratings" list

Love the art, you went all in there! There’s a lot of info in that tutorial, I think the incremental system you mentioned in other comments sounds like a great way to address that. With gameplay loops like this, that can vary in duration so much, it’s tough to get enough music in for a whole play through but I’m digging what’s in there

Developer

Awesome, we're very happy you like it!

Nice concept and awesome art style! Got a hard time getting it at first but the tutorial was really well done, good work!

Developer(+1)

We're looking forward to implement a more scalable gameplay difficulty, after the jam!

Thanks for the kind words!

The art style is great. I found the actual game loop a bit lacking after a while. I can't quite put my finger on it to offer anything useful, but the experince was stimulating at first and then soon became grind through guessing the card so I can see the next amazing piece of artwork. I doubt it will take much to fix how it plays out, I think it is something to do with feedback and peril. It really lacked music to help set the scene, the care that went into how it looked made the lack of ambience all the more noticable. I enjoyed it, I stayed to the end and it's a really good entry. Well done

Developer

We already had some difficulty implementing the full game loop, so we didn't have time to make it deeper and longer. But we will be adding some new content soon to keep it stimulating. As for the music, it has 3 different songs during the game, so perhaps something went wrong during your playthrough and so you couldn't hear it.

Thank you for the support!

Ah maybe that's my fault. I will replay and make sure I adjust my ratings accordingly. Thanks for letting me know.

I loved this concept so much! The writing was funny and the characters were interesting and the art was lovely. I could see spending a ton of time trying to get good at this. Nice work!

Developer

We're really happy you enjoyed!

Great game! Especially loved the gameplay and sound effects. However there was a bug in the tutorial level, where tapping "next" wasn't doing anything. Also, the menu was kinda plain. But overall, the game was good. If you don't mind, could you check out my game?

Developer

Thanks for the support and feedback! We tested several times the tutorial and it never breaks, so perhaps it was situational.

Yes of course we will check your game!

Oh dang, this team went all out with the art direction! The scratchy linework and watercolour style reminds me of book illustrations, and they follow that through into its clean presentation and UI design. Very nice.

It took me a couple tries to understand the card-focused gameplay, as the boatload of tutorial information was alot more than I was expecting for a 1 week demo. But once it clicked, I was invested! I ended up using all my cards before the last two clients and somehow still won though. I think linking the context of the murder weapon cards to the clients made the answers obvious. Maybe if the clients were less stereotypical, it would be harder to guess?

This was impressive for a 1 week demo. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback TJ! We really want to give it a incremental difficulty system, post-jam, because it is a bit complex game system to understand in one go xD.

We have several ideas for improvement and one of them is to vary more the backstory of the clients and to randomize the tools that kill them.

Again, thanks a lot for the kind words and positive feedback!

I love the sound, music is great and the art style! Beautiful! Took me a while to get into it but really beautiful game

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it!

Yeah we agree with the fact that there is no difficulty scaling and we are eager to implement it post-jam! We hope we can deliver a more polished version in the coming weeks, and we count with your feedback afterwards too <3

Really nice game! I think I have broken it after the second day, because the guy is gone but nothing happens. But I found really fun to play, and brilliant the idea to use the theme like "every life is necessary to summon the demon"!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Ye, we still need to fix some stuff in this polishing phase. Thanks for the feedback :)

Developer(+1)

To follow up on this, the game has been updated to a newer version with much fewer bugs. If you still encounter any, please let us know :)

The graphic is really impressive, nice work! The game is pretty hard to catch at first but becomes enjoyable once you really understand the mechanics. That probably comes from the fact that the tutorial is an extremely long info dump, but I get it, it is a jam, and time is what it is. I would love to see an improved version with a bit more learning curve. Good job overall :)

Developer(+1)

We will be improving the game and fixing some bugs in this polishing phase. Thanks for the feedback :)
