I had a fun time! Very smooth gameplay, and great level design. You really did a great job of escalating the challenge as time went on. It was an absolute delight playing through. Great work!

Yeah I can echo a weird bug where clicking prevents any movement (annoying because this also happens for the Fullscreen button). There will be some kind of mouse filtering that is being triggered there, as a guess.

It was hard for me to play on my resolution without fullscreening, but the game was still interesting! I echo others that I personally dislike the controls. My general rule of thumb (not really backed up by any references) is that WASD is fair game, obviously, and Q, E and R are within reasonable reach of those, but anything on the bottom row of the keyboard shouldn't be used for ACTIVE gameplay (i.e. if you are using them to open a menu or hotkey something, then fine, but having them as active parts of the game is difficult. As I say, though, just some advice for how I make control schemes, and not based on any other "best practices" or anything.

As for other parts of the game, I liked the simple and effective music loop, but it definitely can get old quickly. The tone of the music is perfect with the art aesthetic. Great work!

Nice concept and execution. The combine theme has been brought out very well. I liked all the puzzles. Reached upto level 9, and trying to figure it out now :) The difficulty curve is well planned, and keeps the game interesting. The timer is really tight; could do with some slack here. The art and sound are well made, and suited to the game. (The Itch version got stuck and couldn’t move. Played the version on your website.) Overall a well-made game :)

really fun premise and excellent fit for the theme! everything was very well executed. when i got to the timed puzzles it felt a bit too hard, mostly because the controls are quite confusing, and having to do things quickly feels somewhat frustrating

Developer

can you elaborate more on what was wrong with the controls? Did it have more to do with the way you split and swap characters, or the feel of the platforming?

hey! it’s just hard to keep track of which key does what, and i’d often end up pressing the wrong key by accident. pressing the wrong key in this game can be costly and ruin the level forcing you to restart, making for a frustrating experience.

this might not necessarily be an issue with the controls (i don’t know if a different control scheme would help), but maybe rather with an overload of functionality. keeping track of the complex switching/combining interactions might work better at a slow paced execution (puzzle type where you have time to think). this is why the timed levels were particularly annoying.

Developer

yeah in retrospect I'm not a big fan of the timed levels. I'll try to figure out something more interesting.

Wow!!! I loved the puzzles!! I had on the first level by mistake pressed z and x both at different times. I was so shocked when I saw the chest soldier. It was very funny and nice!! Great theme integration and the music was so cool!!!

Nice artwork liked the animation on the chest. Sound was nice as well. Good jam entry.

I had trouble with the itch.io version (couldn't move at all sometimes). In the end played the version on your website (assuming it is the same game).

Some fun and challenging puzzles in there. I made it to the end though! :)

I did struggle to get used to the X/Z controls. I'm not sure how it can be done differently though. The only time it was really a pain was in the timer levels. I think these are not needed for a puzzle game and just introduce extra frustration.

Congrats on a solid entry!

My original plan was to use the mouse for controls like that. (grabbing the characters to merge them together, and separating them by pulling it apart), but I wasn't able to implement it in time. I'm working on the bug with the game freezing.

Nice work it was a whole product. I did find the game very frustrating to play though! I would always hit the wrong button and ended up getting stuck. It was hard to make progress cause it felt like I was fighting the controls instead of the game.

I also found your secret, but didn't even know it was a secret! Unfortunately clicking does freeze me out of moving my character so I could not progress from there.

Also, I could not figure out how to beat level 7.

Well done thought!

Keep making games!

EDIT: Liked the music a lot :)

Thanks for telling me about the thing with the secret. I think it's a bug with the way itch.io works so I'll see if I can fix it.

Level seven is tricky. You have to think outside of the box (or more accurately, over the box.)

Thanks for the feedback

Awesome idea and execution

I liked the combination of the knight and the chest, the sprite was comical. The knight and the chest at the completion screen was an interesting addition, some lore behind that. Fun stuff.
