Did you work in a team?
I developed this solo.

Was the resolution a challenge?
Yes. Texturing the environment in such a low resolution was challenging. I ended up making a lot of adjustments as the project went on.

What did you learn?
I've wanted to create a small 3D retro-style game for a long time but didn't know where to start or if I could even get it done. So I thought I'd give it a try in Low Rez Jam to see what would happen. The jam really pushed what I've learned as a developer, and hanging out in the community helped me stay focused. It was a lot of fun too. I hope to do more games like this in the future.

This is a great game! I really like how it plays out. It's far from being easy, but it's not too hard either. From the graphics design perspective, everything is clear and looks good!
The teleportation feels kind of too good sometimes, by allowing you to skip some keys, but it feels satisfying at the same time, so that's ok I think.
The only thing I'd consider changing is how rotating your character works. I feel like the mouse is just better for that and if you're going with the buttons, you could make it so that strafing is on A and D, and rotating is on Q and E.
Overall, a great entry! Keep up the good work

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

I agree. The input scheme did not help the game at all. That's what I get for going too retro xD. I've recently updated the project version to use mouse input instead with a more traditional stealth FPS control scheme. So I'll be posting that once the Jam rating period is over.

You may be able to teleport past the keys, but you're still going to need a copy of the key when you escape. Meaning your satisfaction was only meant to be temporary. xD

Thanks again for playing!

Woah a 3D stealth game is quite ambitious for this jam and you did a really good job!  I really like the style especially the low poly guard guy.  I;m not very good at stealth games though so I go THWACKED a lot.  Great game!

Developer

Hey, thanks!

The guards aren't very forgiving. I'm actually working on making the Guards a little less THWACK-Y at the moment to tone them down a little. But glad you enjoyed it either way.

Thanks again! : )

Nice game, quite tough though… those guards are very efficient ;) Nice visual style and a great feat doing all this solo. Great job

Developer

Thanks! They are! Maybe a little too efficient. xD

I'm currently working on toning that back a little so it's not so difficult. But I'm glad you liked it either way. : )

Very cool.  I did teleport through a wall and fall to my death though.  I actually like the control scheme lol, it creates tension.  The way you show the floors when you teleport is really neat.  It's a great looking game, the lighting is good.

Developer(+1)

Darn, didn't catch all of them. XD

And thanks! Glad you enjoyed playing it!

I agree with what's been said already, it almost felt more like a horror game than anything else! Being pursued was frightening when you'd enter a room, turn around, and whap! Regardless, amazing looking game! I may have discovered an exploit where you can use the dash forward to pass through locked doors, eliminating the need to find the keys.

Developer

Ey, glad you liked it! And thanks for the feedback.

Teleporting through locked doors is intentional. At least for the first half of the game. ; )

This game was so cool! The map was clear and navigable, and the graphics and sound design were equally awesome. The controls were just too high a barrier of entry for me though, and restarting the game completely upon death made it too difficult to complete.

The slow turn speed and clunky strafing made it really difficult for me to really get a grasp of my surroundings, so I didn't feel like I was scouting and gathering intel for a stealthy escape. It felt more like I was hiding.

I feel these controls would be better for a horror game, as opposed to a stealth game.

Aside from that though, i thought the game in concept and design was great :)

Developer(+1)

Ey, thanks! Glad you liked it!

Yeah, I agree. The keyboard "retro" input scheme doesn't help the difficulty at all. I'm working on replacing that with a more modern Mouse Keyboard input scheme post-jam, hopefully that will take away some of the technical difficulties while keeping the game challenging.

"I feel these controls would be better for a horror game, as opposed to a stealth game."

Oddly enough you aren't wrong. The input was based on a retro horror game I was working on for last year's jam, but didn't get a chance to finish. Solid observation there. XD

Thanks for the feedback, I'll be putting it to good use! : )

Awesome game! Thanks for rating mine :D

Developer

Thanks! xD And you're welcome!

I like how you manage to made things so clear to see! I definitely didn't get lost or confuse :D so Kudos to you! Great job!

Developer

Hey, thanks! That means a lot to me, level design has been the hardest thing to learn, so I'm glad it turned out clear. : )

What an amazing looking game! I nearly gasped when I saw how the world changed when I teleported. I gave it 3 attempts but it was too difficult for me, managed to get the diamond but couldn't escape! And I think the turn speed is a bit too slow, maybe double tapping a/d can have you turn faster?

Developer

Ey, glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the feedback!

I forgot to list that you can hold shift to run in the inputs list. That will double your movement speed including turning (sorry bout that v_v"). But the current controls are definitely not helping in a game that is already difficult. xD I'll be replacing the keyboard controls with a more modern FPS Mouse Keyboard scheme in a post-jam version.

Thanks again!
