hey, we had a slightly similar concept :)

Fun idea and great game

Fast paced game play. Animations, sounds and mechanics are great! I recommend playing this one if you want to be kept on your toes.

Great game! The difficulty ramps up nicely as you progress.

Simply perfect. Could play for hours

This is a really fun game! One of the few games in the jam that I had to stop myself from playing more and more. Reminded me when I used to play Geometry Wars a lot. I really liked having to be strategic about were to attach the new pieces.

Fantastic game. Fits the theme perfectly and is enjoyable through and through. Loved discovering new things to connect to.

(P.S. It's kind of funny but our College Thesis project was also called Amalga)

This is the best game in the entire freaking jam. Absolutely brilliant! Music speeds up as you advance, enemy AI is challenging, the way your amalgamation is structured is really important, the difficulty curve increases both with time and as your player gets larger. Could have used some more in the way of art- even a subtle wobbling around the edges of the cells (three or four sprites) would have added a lot.

Well done!

I played for another half hour and came back with more thoughts. Would be awesome if you could slowly rotate your amalgamation around its center of mass by holding Q and E (perhaps turning more slowly the more cells you have). Dead cells should be grey rather than blue, and it would be terrifying but kind of awesome if you encountered enemy nuclei which could attach to dead cells just like the player as a kind of boss. Small pauses inbetween waves to arrange your cells would be nice as well.

I think this game is a hit, and if you're interested in developing it a bit more you could probably make some money.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Rotation is something we considered, but ultimately scrapped so the controls were simpler and there was less to think about while trying to concentrate on dodging. There were a lot of ideas we were looking to explore, but ultimately we didn't have time. Enemy nuclei sounds like a cool idea. Thanks for playing!

This was really good, and the balance was AMAZING. It felt really fair and fun. The polish was a bit lacking, but the music and sound effects more than made up for it. Great game!

Cool shooter and good way to include power ups!

A really fun game!
Great work on balance and difficulty. You don't stay too weak or too powerful for too long, that's really hard to achieve, nice job!

Hey, another amalgam - based game! I loved the sense of growing power throughout the game, with each new turret giving you more power, but making you more vulnerable - it was a great way to add dynamic difficulty. The variety was really nice to see as well, it kept things fresh instead of just having everything be the same single-shot turret, which made the game a lot more fun. My only complaints are that the mines stayed around a bit too long, and the world felt a bit too small, but perhaps that just adds to the chaos and challenge of it all. The art was clear, and each turret looked different enough to tell them apart, though perhaps making them even more distinct could've been better since at a glance it was a little difficult to tell. The sound effects were a good addition to help the feedback, but some of them felt a bit harsh and loud - still, it's better than just silence, so good on you for adding them! This was a very fun entry, and I loved how you grew in power as you defeated enemies ( that's why I made a game about it too!), so excellent work on making this game!

This was a very fun, replay able game. And I loved how you don't start the game until you touch to turret to make sure the player understands how the game works. Very well done.

Pretty solid fun! I could see myself playing it even more with a few bits of polish here and there, and considering how there's plenty of content past my record 6th wave judging from a few other comments, but yeah~

Fun game! There is a huge enemy variety. My record is 11th wave and there were still new enemies like rocket launcher and shield. I wonder if there were any more in the next waves but I'm not that pro to stay alive for more waves :D.

Great game! It's a "simple" idea executed perfectly to make this game "juicy"! I really enjoyed the difficulty curve and overall design! Good job :D

This is very clever. I love how the difficulty naturally scales by the nature of having more weapons makes you a bigger target. I'm not very good at the game, and I always lose shortly after the bomb enemies get introduced. I am colorblind, and I have some trouble determining if a bomb is friendly or not. Also, the bombs seem to just slowly accumulate without an easy way of clearing them (other than sacrificing what you've collected). I liked the game; I just wish I wasn't so bad at it. :P

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! For sure a hard game (maybe too hard :/), and the bombs could definitely be toned down to not last so long. And we forgot to think about colorblindness when choosing the colors, but good to know it's an issue, definitely something we should fix!

Love it. It’s simple but so effective.

And there’s a really nice ballance to the design of getting stronger with more extensions, but at the same time a bigger target. Really well thought out.
