Well done! The platforming feels good, the presentation is fantastic (especially love the look of the dialogue, reminds me of Shovel Knight), and the story is fun. Keep it up!

Great jam game! Having the main character not take any actual damage enhanced the unreliable narrative so much!

I'd agree the platforming was a little slippery, especially for platforming-combat. Didn't realize about the pacifist version until I read the comments either.

Really liked the Palpatine reference from the sorcerer! Good work!

Glad you noticed the Star Wars reference, I actually wrote that line on Star Wars day too :)

The concept is entertaining, the game is fun and easy to play (and there's a twist). Very well done! Really appreciate how clean and polished the few gameplay mechanics are, and having the spells knock you away instead of killing you was a clever game jam solution. Great job!

Loved this! The controls are super slick and the sword slash is really satisfying. It's a totally classic take on the theme but it works really well, it's silly and goofy and sweet. I murdered everything and only learned from the comments that if you don't kill anything it's different, that's such a nice touch!

I especially loved the first few levels, because it seemed reasonable that this super weak knight murdered a bunch of rats and then called them beasts. But later the exaggerations with the sorcerer and the black hole and tickling the dragon, while it was definitely funny, it seemed more like just genuine lies than exaggerations. Which I guess isn't that important of a distinction haha but yeah that's really my only "critique" overall this was super fun and got a few genuine chuckles out of me. Great job!

Thanks I'm glad you liked it! With the knight character I mainly tried to make him so pathetic that you almost just felt bad for him. The purpose of his lies were mostly him just covering up the mundane parts of the journey so he could look cooler.

That definitely came across! I also felt bad for the son haha that he had such a bad dad, and that the son was believing everything his dad said.

Had a great time playing this one.

The gameplay is super satisfying and very responsive. I can totally see a full length side scroller action game that can be made from this core gameplay. Would love to see that.

The only complaint I have is that the game is too short! !NEED MORE !!

Lovely short game!

I like the smooth controls and the cute pixel art!

Some feedback:

  • The controls were at times a bit too smooth (Like it felt like I was slipping :P )
  • Though I thoroughly enjoyed the story and humour, I would have wanted to have the dialogue being played out while I'm playing the character; but that's just me

You have a knack for writing humour in a compelling way! And I particularly like the smooth controls!

Well done! :)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the humor. I originally did have the dialogue progress in game but I found that it was a bit hard to read the dialogue and play at the same time, so I decided it would’ve been best just to have it at the end of each room where you can take as much time reading it as you want.

I think that was a good decision! :)

This was super funny, I really enjoyed it.  That knight really does know how to tell a good story. Was pretty heartwarming towards the end. Music sets the scene well, lovely pixel art, and the controls were easy and smooth. (Though I did find it a little slippery when jumping on platforms - that might be because I'm not that great at platformers though, haha.)

A simple but interesting concept with great execution! Great job!

Thanks! Glad you liked the story.

Wow!

This is the first game I've played, and it sets the bar extraordinarily high.

The gameplay is simple, but responsive and tight. It feels good.

The writing is succinct and funny.

Thematically on point.

My teammate played as well which revealed that it takes your choice about whether to kill things into account.

Polished to perfection.

My only nitpick is that the hero being invincible undermines the idea that he is lying about how strong he is. I felt if I did have to fight a wizard with a black hole spell, for example, I could just swing away at him with impunity and eventually win.

Thanks! My first time making a dialogue heavy game and I'm pretty proud of it. There were two reasons I decided to make the player invincible, one was to make it so that everyone could get to the next dialogue as fast as possible.  And to also make everything in the dungeon seem extremely weak, but I understand why you felt the opposite where it made the knight actually feel strong in comparison.
