In what way does your game fit the theme?
With the theme being "Stronger Together" we thought of making a hive game, where you play as Bacteria to infect the human body through their veins.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
yes,all visuals and code are custom made, except for the theme song, this was a custom remix based on an existing license free song.

The camera works very poorly in this game. This is the end of the cons of the game. The game is very atmospheric, moving inside the body is fascinating. The graphics look pretty convincing, I like the way the capillaries and other things pulse.
Good job.

Very interesting game and the concept has lot's of potential. The visuals and the ambience of it all is very well done but the camera could use a bit more work since most of the time I couldn't find the player and I tutorial could be useful. Still a very good game though. Well Done!

graphics and sound design were delightfully disgusting. The camera was a little wonky and I was thinking the movement was really slow until I finally realized you could "sprint".  I'm also not sure if you're supposed to be able to collect more viruses from the yellow tissue after the first little section but it didn't work for me. Cool game though, I liked it.

Developer

The creatures have a cap after x amount is collected, after that they will no longer infect the cells. It is a point we definitely should have made more clear during a user's playtime. The camera and confusing on how the bacteria/viruses work are the two main complaints. So the feedback is definitely noted! Thanks.

That was disgusting lol! Good job bro! Video review below:

I see the camera controls where also a pain for you :) Definitely an aspect that needs more work in the future, thanks for the review.

Little clarification for the bacteria not infecting cells, at the moment there is a creature cap due to performance issues. When you have around 40 bacteria they will no longer infect healthy cells. In order to pass the last valve you need 40 bacteria to "force" your way in.

It definitely needs work on the camera part, and on the clarity on what a user should be doing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Man this game is sick! haha… Love the graphics and the scene transitions, overall the theme and idea is brilliant. I didnt have any major issues, minor clipping on the outer wall but this game is awesome!

Submitted(+1)

Good things first: The visuals and controls are good and original. The idea is something I would've honestly never thought of, and theoretically it sounds very creative and like a great game idea.

The UI is not fitting and neither is the font. It was not clear how to get started with the game and how to progress and sometimes the camera would clip out of the walls and the view would look weird. I think some sort of tutorial or interactive explanation would be very useful, along with a more suitable UI and font. Other than that, very creative game; very nice!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback, UI is a first time for some one to critique, but I can definitely see where you are coming from, noted!
Lots of people also would have loved a tutorial, something to keep in mind for future projects.

Definitely one of the most visually effective games here that I've played so far, it's all just so eerie and grotesque feeling, really makes my skin crawl. The audio definitely contributes to this as well, making it an overall highly interesting, atmospheric experience. The game itself is a bit off feeling at points however, mostly with the camera, being borderline unplayable whenever you're up against a wall and it starts clipping out. A bit more direction would also have been helpful, mostly at the start where you have to turn around to collect the first few pieces of bacteria, it just felt quite unintuitive especially with how difficult it can feel to control your character at points. Even so, I really like this game and in terms of presentation it's absolutely stunning.

The visual experience here was so great, it felt alien, hostile and grotesque--just like I imagine travelling through the blood would do... haha.

As some people mentioned below the camera certainly does have a bit of jank which makes it quite difficult to navigate at times, and the clipping through walls did definitely take me out of it a bit.

I also felt that after the very first room there were no longer any white blood cells chasing me, so the threat pretty much disappeared entirely. But that may have just been my playthrough.

I also thought that perhaps you could have made the valves be little movement puzzles instead of simply opening for you; after all if you're in a body it wouldn't be working for you. So something like them opening and closing at timed intervals for you to sprint through or something could have added some more.

But the visuals and sound were certainly an experience, making this the most immersive I've played in the jam yet!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on my game if you have the time :)

Initially the valve where locked on bacteria counts similar to the final valve that opens to the heart. But during play testing players got stuck with not enough bacteria to pass the threshold for opening (the idea was that the bacteria could force their way in with number), so we scrapped that. However making some valves clause in a more autonomous way is a good idea, definitely noted.

The white blood cells used to be everywhere, but at moments caused an unplayable drop in frame rate (when a lot of them started to collide), due to time constraints we where unable to optimize them enough, so we placed them in the main chambers and behind some valves where the infectable cells are. A lot of optimization went into the environment to get a good balance in tessellation density for meaty movement closely and proper distortions far away.

Thanks for the feedback, it is very helpful!

That was certainly an experience... but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You nailed the visuals and the sounds, and they fit really well with the gruesome atmosphere. I especially like the walls that open up when you get closer, that part really adds to the whole artery setting.

I do think the beginning of the game could offer some more direction for the player. It was a bit confusing what to do at first and where to go. The camera is also a little funky - it feels very sensitive and sometimes clips through walls, which makes moving around  a lot harder than it should be.

Very good game overall, I'm glad I got to play it to the end. Top notch work on the environment too.

Developer

Yea we knew the clarity on what you had to do in the beginning and the camera would be the two major complaints. Definitely a focus for our next project. Due to time constraints we focused on  getting everything we wanted in the project. But the camera definitely could have used some extra love.  Glad every one seems to experience the  immersion we where going for. Thanks for your feedback!

I hated it. But because the visuals and audio were so authentic and stunning it just was to real and gross for me. So well done! That being said, from a game design it was fun and eerie. I liked the idea and it the visuals just get me staring even though I hated it. I even made a friend watch the camera angle change when you click on the options menu because I thought it looked so cool. Well done!

This is hands down the best looking game in the jam. The atmosphere here is excellent thanks in part to amazing sound design (although recording someone while they are choking to their death must have been quite unconfortable)

I couldn't do anything to the yellow thingys except for the ones at the beginning so I just floated forward slowly (didn't realize you can speed up with shift until the end) but I did get to the end.

I appreciate the sound options (not enough games have them) but they are a tad weird. You can put everything to 20 and get ready to go shopping for new headphones with bleeding ears :P

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! The yellow things are cells that can be used to reproduce the bacteria/viruses, there is a create cap of 40, after that they will no longer consume the resources of the cell (a cell only disappears if its resources are 0), a better sign for being on max is definitely something that could have been added. The sound options is a direct exposure of the engine's mixer values, which are in the decibel format, with some extra time we could have properly mapped them visually to a 0-1 range which would have made made more sense, but hey, time constraints :). 0 is actually the recommended value since it is the original mix, lower is obviously more silent and above 0 is more of a boos, like you said one might need a new pair of headphones after that haha.

Thank you for your feedback it is definitely noted.

Nice short game! I especially enjoyed the graphics (wow!) and the audio effects (nice slurping sound you made :D) Keep it up!

Submitted(+2)

Nice and gruesome graphics, really like the concept. The camera controls were a little wonky at times and some quick guide/tutorials would have been nice

Developer

Yes, we knew  before wrapping up that the camera was going to be a major issue in some areas. Other mechanics needed to be finished, so we took the bullet. Feedback is very appreciated and your suggestion of a guide is a good one, noted.

Thanks for playing

The graphics are super impressive, especialy the veins material. The mood of the game is awesome too.

The gameplay however is a bit confusing, I was able to "eat" the first 3 yellow things but then I couldn't anymore. I eventually found the hearth but the viruses were not able to enter, only the camera did. Then I "won"  but I'm not sure if I played as intended or if I was glitching.

Developer (1 edit)

Once the bacteria reached their creature cap, they will no longer infect/eat other cells. The bacteria stay behind to fend of remaining white blood cells that might come after the player, so you can safely infect the heart. It could use  better ques for that I agree.

Thanks for the feedback.

Really great game! the environment is really cool and the gameplay is really fun, one thing is that the camera can easily get out of bounds a lot of the time. but other than that great game!

Submitted(+2)

I really like how the whole stage moves as if you were really inside the body. I sort of got lost though maybe a map could have been useful.

Developer

Hi, thanks for playing. Thanks for the feedback. There are 2 ways to get a general sense of direction. Valve doors (the squishy things that open and close) have a front an back design, you can use this to get a general orientation on whether you are backtracking or progressing. Some sort of map, or visual queue is a good suggestion though, we will keep that in mind!

Interesting concept, I like the visuals, only problem is the camera, near other objects it becomes unplayable
