Pretty hilarious tbh. I liked the constant fourth wall breaking and the fact that, even with the fourth wall basically no longer existing, there's still a coherent plot within a plot, one that makes for a good parody of isekais. There really isn't much else to say though. It's just a solid comedy with a consistent tone throughout, and there were several layers of jokes and metajokes that showed that the writer really knew the medium and all its conventions, enough to rip on every cliche in ways I didn't expect. I was expecting the genalpha speak to be more grating but it really isn't. Most of the humor comes from the fourth wall breaks after all. Also I do appreciate that the sprites got alts where they're holding the scripts. Big points in presentation. The CGs were nice also, though it's a shame not all of them made it into the finished product. Uh... yeah it's good.

Some Isekai Furry Wattpad Shit IDK:

Really funny! That's all I can say. Okay, I'll say more. The framing device is pretty neat, a bunch of friends doing a book/film/visual novel and shooting the shit while making it. They definitely feel like chill college friends who are just doing something fun before they go to school again. Their banter really adds to the experience. Also has some meta-narrative about it being a jam game and their experience mirroring the experience of a jam game dev team. The story itself is very funny as I already mentioned. Plot-wise, it is a basic isekai story that unintentionally ends up being like an Adastra parody if it took place in a college setting. What really makes the VN enjoyable is the dialogue and narration. It's hard to describe it other than being very funny. I do think this is a VN that will vary wildly in enjoyment depending on your tastes and preferences. It's got that "ironic" tone to it, and I understand if people are tired of the whole Joss Whedon style of writing where it doesn't take itself too seriously. But I think it works here because it's not trying too hard and it feels like there's more heart than insecurity behind the writing. Unfortunately, this is another VN that doesn't really utilize the folklore theme that well as I can't really think of anything that's folklore related in this VN. Also the CGs don't work properly in any of the endings that aren't the "cool clothes" ending, so you might want to look into the files of the game to view them. Some people also might find discomfort over the VN (unintentionally) throwing shade at other FVNs, but I personally didn't mind. Definitely would recommend giving it a read if this sounds good to you.

PEAKKKK TS PEAKKKK HAHA, honestly I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading, like I unironically enjoyed it. Like, I get the point is that it's a humorous jab at romantic stories, specifically isekai stuff that the title says, and it goes all the way with its intended theme? Story? Style? Like, I know the author mentions insecurities that the writing is not compared to other literary works of the jam, but I think different styles like this can be done well and still find enjoyment and meaning in its content; for example, in one of the endings, the sudden shift to shakespherean(?) writing after knowing the MC was going to school in 4 days was hilarious in due to the contrast with the rest of the writing. Like, I would enjoy a format like this if it was completed, I would maybe want to know more about the actor characters outside of their play.

But being serious for a second, there's not really a difference if this were a play or the actual Anubis story, like it's humorous. Sorry to compare, but using Curtains Call, a submission for May Wolf 2025, as an example, it also has a play as 2 sides of the story: one is about the actors, and the other is about the story itself. And yes, the writing and dialogue speak as if it's supposed to be via chat, but it leaned into that writing style, and I kind of didn't mind at all. But thinking meta-narratively, it would be something like rushing to make a VN in a short amount of time.

Also, the implementation of the theme wasn't used too much. Like it was mostly set dressing for the characters. I did like what there was art-wise. Though that preferences menu needs some adjustments, probably, but holy, working starting the 21st, that's very difficult for what you would be able to make in a short amount of time. Not enough time to fix things like "but i just here i dont have any other". Also the ending CGs were having "Image not found" errors for me when choosing the sexy outfit or the lazy outfit.

Also smh, it has been FIVE BOOKS/MOVIES/VISUAL NOVELS, AND IT TOOK THAT LONG FOR THEM TO FINALLY TELL THEIR FEELINGS AND KISS OMG.

Also no women and Jackson didn't get that sex scene tspmo 🥀. 2, 5, 3, 5, 4.

Bro is frontin' y'all. 'ithinkitslikesomeisekaiwattpadthingidk' (or is the movie called 'Anubis College'? whatev) is a meta-humorous false-film parody of 'My Wolf' visual novels, furry visual novels in general, and way too much poking fun at the uncs by tormenting them with Gen Z/Alpha/slop slang and vernacular. And in spite of it's attempt to come off as an incompetent rush job, there is a surprising amount of depth to the jokes and the layers to poking fun at the popular visual novel tropes in a 'if you know, you know' kind of way. It's both self-aware that it's presenting itself as a mockery of furry visual novels, but the amount of research and knowledge about them needed to accurately pin point the jabs let's you know that this was written by someone who cares about visual novels a lot.

I really have to appreciate the story and framing of this visual novel. It's established early that this is actually a story about a group of college students (film students maybe) who are shooting a movie in a month (game jam reference), and said movie is an isekai story about [insert protagonist name], a human, who is brought down into Duat (Egyptian underworld) because he's actually an anubis this whole time and now he's the Prince to an Anubis dad and he has to go to Anubis College to study and win his father's favor to become the new king because he has a younger brother who is also aiming for the throne. Following? It's okay if you're not, none of it actually happens, as there's frequent moments of fourth-wall breaking as the characters are fully self-aware of the caricatures they're playing as, straight up reading from scripts and poking all the holes in the plot and giving nu-gen quippy humor. No secret, this biggest parody this is of is Adastra, but there's jabs at other furry vns too, Lyre for falling in love with a knight who is assigned to protect you, I think one might've been Cho-Pro for the clothing choice scene, and I want to say the plethora of college based furry vns and this one just being another college setting. There's even a "cut to the final scene because we're running out of time" with a lot of funny bickering about how they have to skip over the sex scene, which is like, the most important part of a vn. The fact that there are three endings based on which outfit you pick, is hilarious, in that each of the endings is also like, just as entertaining as the last, as they all end in tragedy, but in their own unique ways. It even ends on a joke, as the drama is forced, there's a lack of any real weight to the finale, and it just ends with all the actors patting each other on the back sayin' how they might come back to film the missing scenes, but whatev cut to credits.

The presentation is nothing to scoff at either. Like, don't let the broken menu fool the particular craft in making it look 'this' busted. And even then, it's actually not 'that' busted. The character sprites are really good: jackal family, wolf knight, and the fox guy all are all expressive and give off so much character. The backgrounds are immersive, there's even some sketches of CGs for the ending, which is so good in conveying the whole "running out of time to finish this" running joke (happy accident that the 'image not found' made me laugh more than be annoyed). The bits where they have to cut the filming because something unhinged happened or they need to re-shoot a scene are always great visual gags. The audio does it's j*b what it needs to do.

I need to talk about the writing, because I both hate it, that's it's so grammatically incorrect and narratively 'wrong', but love that it commits to the bit so hard and consistently that I know that it's a conscious choice being made. I know you know how to write, because there are characters that do speak in complete sentences and times when the slang is left out. There is something so oddly refreshing about character's being aware of the tropes they're based off of. But also how each character, in spite of their dialog being full of slang, they each come across as distinct characters? And like, as actors playing characters too? There is so much vocabulary anachronicity that it's just a funny running gag at that point. Favorite bits and lines are "can't you see I'm trying to create conflict here" and "we've undergone like 0 character development" and "the past four years and five book/movies/visual novels".

This is really creative, not that parodies and false films haven't been done before, but how instead of making fun of a particular visual novel like some parodies have in the past, but like, pokes fun at the language of the furry visual medium as a whole. Pointing out the in unimportance of the protagonist's previous life yet how they keep reminding you of it, the absolute forced drama because a character is just overwhelmingly evil, the way that certain social structures like an aristocratic class and slavery has some stuff there that needs to be unpacked, and even the constant dunking on human characters. Funny enough, this fits really well in the folklore category being based on the Egyptian myth of Anubis and references to other literary works in here, so it's like, there was creative intent and this wasn't some fluke.

I'm going to say, looking at who is behind this (kaz and blacklight), I did not know that this collaboration would work so well, and I'm so glad that y'all put something like this together. Blacklight from those comedy chops that I remember from 'One Way or Another' and Kaz's unhinged prose waxing with 'First Winds'. Such a funny and new perspective on the contemporary visual novel scene, still putting together a somewhat coherent plot even if it was 'Adastra but with jackals', and just finding a way to make a meal out of every line. I don't know if Nu-Gen stylized comedies are going to be your go-to when you next make a visual novel or if you're going to branch out into other genres or try for another original story, but it's crazy how much improvement happened from the first game jam to this game jam. Keep workin' on that scope bloat and time management skills, y'all cut it close.

blacklight here! thank you for the glowing review 🦇✨️, but i do want to respond to what you said about kaz and i working on this together; i think we're a lot more alike than you realize! my brand of terminally online humor is just more tumblr than tiktok :P

A dive into the absurd for sure, but a pretty entertaining comedy anyway! Now, rating this under any parameters you might rate other stories by is borderline impossible, but there are many things worthy of note. For starters, the story is dramatically elevated story-wise by the inclusion of the director-actors dynamic, making the story much more... believable, in a sense. The comedy, as it always is, can be hit or miss, and your mileage may vary depending on... well, how terminally online you are, for starters.

Now, to me, in such projects there is always a prevalent thought: "Is the shown distance from your own work a method of protection from exposing yourself?" Of course, I don't know that, but it's not something that's easy to ignore, unfortunately. I do hope that the author(s) try their hand at a more serious, or at least more directly polished, story, since I think they are more than capable enough to create a good story without the veneer of a 'silly project', per se. Lastly, I would like to note that the art, and especially the sprites, are phenomenal, and I would be more than happy if I saw them in a full-fledged VN.

Ultimately, it's an entertaining comedy that leans very heavily on a gimmick. Still, I laughed many times and might come back to it sometime if I find myself in the mood for it.

ts was peak. Thoughtfully breaking the 4th wall (and the 5th, and 6th...), this VN does a great job of keeping you engaged the whole time.

Submitted(+2)

Oof, this one is complicated. I think the way the text was formatted and some of the writing took me out of this too much and I couldn’t take this comedy seriously enough to find it funny. Or something like that.

It becomes better later on, but I was already in the wrong mindset for it so it didn’t really click. There are definitely some cool ideas and moments in there. The folklore stuff is more of a backdrop than anything, but it works.

The sprites looked really cool, I really like that they all had one pose where they hold the script.^^ The rest of the presentation is pretty nice too.

So yeah, in the end, this is a big “not for me”. Still, a nice work!

Pretty fun story. Wouldn't say it was the greatest, but I enjoyed my time with it. I'll say, the premise is pretty interesting and unique

jesus christ lmao. It made me laugh, I think most of the comedy is front loaded, but that's fine. I don't know if there's much to say (that isn't at least said by pink) beyond "it's really funny." I don't have a tiktok or an IG, but I was still able to keep up with the lingo, and unlike the last production by Kaz it didn't feel like it was thrown in there just for The Bit.

THAT SAID The designs fucking rip. Khufu especially is dripped out, and I love Cyril's look even though we only see them in the unfinished CGs. Pour one out for the homies. SERIOUSLY JUST POUR IT OUT, MY GOD, STOP DRINKING POISON ON PURPOSE

When I saw that Kaz was making something based in Egyptian mythology (and that there was an editor) I was slightly horrified over the possibility that their writing might be nerfed compared to ididntknowhowmightythewindsweretonight(FirstWinds). This is absolutely not the case, Anubis(es) are still speaking in brainrot. I'd say this may in fact be even funnier, albeit a little bit more comprehensible for any unc players.

I enjoyed all of the designs, where characters are dripped out in a fusion of classical depictions of the mythology the story handles, and the way only black men can make a suit not look fucking boring. It's too bad about the CGs euhm Untitled_Artworks not making it into the jam build, but the ending segment works alright without them. The music choices were good as well, although the heavy breathing one was a choice (I still respect it).

Fun for the whole family, I screenshotted approximately 50 lines to torment people with.

I do not foresee any other jam VN being this funny! It was writing beyond writing. Meta-writing, even! Beloved Khufu...
I will say it again here, that while I greatly appreciate bringing more dark-furred races into the fold like jackals, it could stand to be said that lip gloss to make the mouth expressions more visible would be greatly appreciated. I did play with a magnifier on the active speaker's mouth for that on my phone most of the time.
I look forward to what you make in the future, be that the mildly implied stories of the interim or otherwise!

if you can believe, khufu used to be worse😭😭 hopefully i figure out ths sdk stuff2 make android at least a bit more playable

See who is back! Karl Smith!

This will be the second vn I will read. It has "Wattpad" on its name, so it must be good.
