Great work! Its a fun platformer game! I love the vine growth mechanics. Controlling the growing vine and navigating my way forward is enjoyable :) but if I don鈥檛 reposition the character correctly, I can get stuck. However, resetting to the last checkpoint solves that issue. I also adore the game's art style :) especially the character animations, they're so good! Keep up the great work!

Developer

Thank you so much, our artist really did a great job!

This was fantastic! First off, I was amazed when I got the bad ending and realized that this puzzle-platformer also had resource management! The fact that you do not get pollen back after a reset stops players from brute forcing the puzzles and encourages replays so they can find optimal ways to complete the puzzles! the art and animations are also great, and the movement is fun too! I could seriously see this being expanded to make gameplay smoother and more refined and have a couple more levels. Truly awesome!

Developer

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that you found it fun!

The character animations are so smooth! The vine-growth mechanic is also really interesting. The whole game experience is very seamless—great job!

Right off the bat, incredible character design and animation!!! What an adorable lil guy!

Leaving thoughts as I play:

  • The vine growing mechanic kinda reminded me of some segments in Drawn to Life on the DS
  • The sound design is really good and I love how the pitch of the vine growing tells you how close it is to being finished
  • Mechanics are introduced in a safe environment to teach the player how they work before then being used in more dangerous situations
  • Alternate routes are a great idea for introducing a risk/reward system to the player (more difficult, less pollen-consuming / easier, more pollen-consuming)
  • Played again to conserve pollen and get the good ending

This game was very very cute and I loved it a lot! In terms of bugs, I don't think I came across a single one! I noticed that my pollen was draining a little in windy areas despite having blocked the wind (maybe intentional?)

The art for this game is incredible and was the forefront of my enjoyment with this entry. Truly incredible to see what art and animation can be made in such a short amount of time!

Incredible entry, congrats, and I can't wait to see more! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and thoughtful review!!  it honestly means a lot that you picked up on so many of the intentional design decisions! The pitch mechanic on the vine was something we were really proud of, so it's awesome that it registered. And the level design around teaching mechanics safely before ramping up difficulty was very much deliberate, glad it came through!

The Drawn to Life comparison is such a cool observation, honestly hadn't thought of it but it makes a lot of sense!

About the wind bug, you're actually right that something weird happens visually! The pollen bar changes color as if it's draining faster, but the actual pollen drain isn't affected. It's a visual feedback bug we noticed after submission and will fix in a post-jam update.

Really loved your entry too, incredible work for a jam. Congrats to you as well!! :D

I bet on this one for winner of the Jam. Btw, I can't help but notice that the game file has "Demo" in the name, so does that mean you guys have plans for the future of the game?

Developer(+1)

Both the artist and I (the developer) are very happy with the game's outcome. In fact, we even continued developing it after the deadline so we could update it as soon as the jam ends. So yes! We intend to continue with the project.

Thank you so much for playing!! This comment means a lot to us!

I think this one is my favorite by far! Very creative mechanics, movement and animation is very smooth. Plus the ending was so cute! Great job, this is absolutely perfect :D.

Developer

Thank you so much, this genuinely made our day! We're a small team of three and poured a lot of heart into this one, so hearing that it stood out means the world to us. Really glad the ending landed the way we hoped, it was important to us that it felt earned :D

I love the vine growing mechanic!

How did you get the vines to tile so perfectly even when it鈥檚 turning?

Developer

Thank you so much! The vines are actually drawn using a Line2D node in Godot 4, with a tiling texture applied to it. As the vine grows frame by frame, we keep adding points to the Line2D, the texture tiles automatically along the path regardless of the direction or curvature, which is what makes it look seamless even when turning. The turning itself is controlled by gradually rotating the growth direction vector each frame based on player input, similar to how a snake game works but with smooth rotation instead of snapping. Really happy it caught your eye!

aaaa i love it :D

Coder: controls are really responsive, seems like it coded by a pro. Overall, the game is very well done! Noob like me made it to the end with 0% so I'd suggest to add a restart button so you could retry withour restarting the game itself

Artist: The flower at the end is a very satisfying reward, the font is cool and art style overall os very nice, I love it!

Musician: music is catchy yet not disctracting, well done!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for your comments, it means a lot to us <3

Incredible! The art is amazing and I loved the growing vine concept! The music also caught me a little off-guard with how good it was, I had to sit on the start screen for a moment lol

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!!! Both the artist and the composer did an amazing job and I'm very grateful :D

This is a great spring game! I loved all the art assets, they were very charming. The mechanic of choosing where the vines grow is awesome. My only nitpick is that I wish there was a meter that told you how much you could grow a vine before it stops. Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I tried to make the pitch of the sound when you're making a vine grow indicate how much longer it will last, but I totally agree it should be clearer. Thanks for the comment! :D

The mechanic of growing vines was awesome and really nice to use. The animations are cool too, great game!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it, thank you a lot for playing 馃

Love the game and the art style! I had a hard time finishing but ended up not having enough pollen to save the poor flower at the end haha, would definitely play again in the future if you decide to work on the game again! Thanks for making this awesome game man!

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing!!! It's a shame you didn't get to see the splash art for the good ending, but I'm glad you enjoyed the game, it means a lot <3

It was quite fun to play, I want to note the funny character design, overall an interesting game!

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! 馃

The win screen is super cute! It's interesting to have a race element to the game, it managed to make me play the game a second time after I'd run out of pollen on my first try. 馃檪

Im glad you like it <3

really good art and presentation, and even tho i struggled with the vine mechanics for a while, when i got the hang of it, everything clicked. I felt a lack of communication about what that ominous bar meant, at first, i tought the gamw would restart when it reached 0 lol,and figuring out what it was in the end was a surprise, but it was really fun going back trying to figure out how to use the least amount of pollen. great work!

Developer(+1)

You are right about the bar pollen, maybe some kind of tutorial or indication would have done the trick, is definitly going to be added. Thank you for playing, it means a lot!

Submitted(+2)

This game was so much fun, I really enjoyed playing it. The puzzles were a little shallow but we are working with a game jam time limit after all lmao. Getting to the end only to discover I didn't have enough pollen was interesting and I had a lot of fun optimizing my run to make sure I had enough left. The final puzzle can be completely avoided by just walking through the wind without using the vine at all. Not sure if that was intentional or not but it was convenient for me at least lmao,  albeit a little disincentivizing to engage with the core mechanic. The art is also really cute. My main criticism would be the lack of a "Quit game" or "Restart" when you hit one of the end screens, specifically the "Not Enough Pollen" end screen. Would've been really nice to just click a button and try again.

Developer(+1)

the idea for the last puzzle was for the player to choose between trying to stop the wind solving the puzzle or passing through and loosing pollen, but you are right that the design isnt very clear... Thanks you a lot for playing and commenting!

I really enjoyed playing this game; it has one of the more creative game mechanics I've seen so far with the vine control. I loved the fact that when you pause, the controls show up; the animation of the main character is very cute; and the sound effects/music are an amazing touch to the game. I lost the first time but managed to beat the game the second time. Would love to see more diverse platforming though (maybe add enemies) or perhaps more levels. I enjoyed playing the game and wish it had more content!

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! It means a lot to us that you enjoyed the game. I will definitely add more content and release a final version in the future!

Fun game! At first I struggled with the vines controls, but after getting the hang of it it was great. The animations are really cute and the gameplay is so creative. My only complaint is that the checkpoints don't give back the pollen you lost after arriving to that checkpoint, I feel like you still get punished for retrying. Besides that the final art was so cute and I really enjoyed it! Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! The idea was that the cost of restarting would be the pollen spent on the failed attempt, but it's true that the feedback for the player isn't entirely clear. I hope you found it fun :D

Submitted(+2)

had fun! only issue is my skill issue lol. Animations smooth and controls good too!

Developer(+1)

thank you!! i hope you had fun playing 馃
