I was quite intruiged by the opening with the battery, but then the gameplay after that was something quite different, and in general i found the large amount of disjunct features and gameplay to be a bit uncohesive and I think focusing one one kind of gameplay would have made for a stronger game. I ended up giving up in stage 3 or 4 i think because i couldn’t see anything due to red all over the screen lol, so putting that on the correct layer for something cosmetic would be good as to not obstruct gameplay xD

UI besides that was decent though

Developer

Thanks for playing.

Value your insight, some would prob make more sense if people went into the stage page and actually read it :) though it seems like 0 players have done so, which i find funny. hehe Dunno about the features and gameplay, to me it seems like a tamagotchi.

Take care of a infant that is able to do much, make sure it is fed or otherwise taken care off.
Take care of a teenager or similar, prepare them to the life ahead of them with training
- let them battle life mostly on their own.

But there is a "virus" in the game soooo yeah kinda the whole point of it, that things are suppose to be offsetting or otherwise difficult.

All the blood is there intentionally :)

dont personally understand why player would not check the screws in the end of the game, when they are explicit being taught they can be used in the beginning.

All that said, i do agree with some of the your points, and would consider a more cohesive game if i ever were to make a tagagotchi game again.

I did try the screws! maybe missed the hitbox? Or maybe too early because idk if the game was over, I think they all died or something

Developer

Bottom right one, pull that screw and then the panel. :)

there are 3 endings possible.

all alive
1-2 dead
all dead

Was the game fun to play?

Absolutely. I reached the end, found the secret panel with the hard drive in and successfully prevented the Xlander Virus from corrupting TinyTotchi. The dark twist was an unexpected but welcome twist. Doing a bit of fruit ninja on the oranges was fun and the wave survival with guns kept the game engaging.

Did the game include the core elements from the original?

Yes and with a cuteness factor x3. I like that the 3 characters have names and a personality. The core stats for their health and needs were well integrated in the game.

Was there a clear path of progression?

Yes. It was clear from the tutorial that each stage would last 45 seconds and I progressed through the different stages with no trouble. I initially struggled a little on the battery section because I was clicking on the screw rather than dragging it but it didn’t take long to figure it out, maybe a drag arrow could help though.

How good was the audio and sound FX?

The menu music is incredibly catchy and fits the cute imagery perfectly. It’s great to see the volume sliders for music, sound and speech. While the character phrases are great, Owl's swearing caught me off guard. It’s funny, but a content warning might be a good idea for younger players. The sound the rainbow vomit makes is great when customising them, as too is the gameplay sounds.

How well implemented was the UI?

Putting the battery in to start the game is a nice realistic touch. The UI blends seamlessly with the same consistent art style of the game background. The icons at the bottom (diamonds, phone, lightning bolt etc) look great. Having the character stats at the top is a great position and it’s clear which character each belongs to and how they each have a different need. The tutorial arrows with the text inside them are helpful too but it can look a little busy.

Developer

Thank for playing.
And the very detailed comments i appriciate the effort.

Will take note on content warning, guess im just assumming gamejammers are all old enough to handle things like that. Did not think too much of it.

Glad to hear and read that you seemed to figure out most of the mechanics the game have to offer, were made so it could be completed without dealing with the buff+debuff there also are in the game.  (listed in the stats page) and you did not let that Xlander virus corrupt them.

Slicing oranges grants more more damage.
They gain less training for each orange they throw.
Using consumables gives less damage.
Getting stuck makes them slower.
Weapons rotate faster the more they workout.

XD
help my screen has gone red and I keep hearing "MUSHROOM MUSHROOM"

OWL's death thrall was the best, 10/10 would commit vomit again.

You had given me warning this was going to happen, but never expected this level of chaos XD

Developer(+1)

thank for playing.

That evil xlander really messed up the game with his virus - never buy from XlanderGames.fake. ;)

Love how you foreshadow the solution from the get go!

This game was great funny and good looking with all the meta elements. It had great sound and art with some really cool visual effects. I got a bit chaotic and cut of right when I was ready for more,

Developer

Thanks for playing :)
Yeah, always that balance to find (is it too little or too much) especially for jams.

But im glad to hear you wanted more.

Nice cute sprites!

The first stage wasn't very clear, if there was something more to do than make sure they don't get stuck on trees, I didn't figure that out.

I liked the idea of equipping them for wave defense!

I'd recommend highlighting the screws that can be moved and putting the red fog on a layer below the characters so it doesn't obstruct the screen as much. I also didn't notice if there was any progression or if the waves were completely independent from each other.

Cool entry!

Developer

Thanks for playing.

The stats menu explaines things:
First stage when they throw a orange and you cut it, they will deal more damage. If you fail to cut the orange they deal less damage. Also stats for how many times they get stuck, how often you un-stuck them and if you use any of the consumables. (but all that wasent required for completing the game) i just made it for the curious souls that explored the game enough.

Training, if they did not get stuck too often, will make them rotate their guns faster.

Orange/blood splatter is intentional made to obscure the screen - it is suppose to be obnoxious to the player.

No waves progression other then they spawn more and more each second. After 45 seconds it will spawn big mushrooms that 100% will kill you if you do not remove the virus.

Concept was that when the virus was gone, you would go back and play the entire game, including the missing stages as a actual cute game. Just never got around to putting that much into it.

Appriciate the suggestions

I see, I wonder if something is tied to framerate or what, but my stages lasted like 5-15 seconds and the characters never threw oranges (on Chrome/Win11).

Developer

strange - it is in a fixed state to last 45 seconds.
If you unstuck them they will not throw one, but you can permanent stuck them by putting them inside the middle of the tree trunk (by design)

Probably easier to show than explain:

Developer(+1)

wow that is SO weird, not you stugling to put a battery in, but if the rest if it isnt edited and its just skipping ahead like that.
Cannot reproduce that on my end. Then i understand what things felt a little disconnected for you.

But yeah, every stage is suppose to last 45 seconds, precisely

Submitted(+1)

Yeah it's unedited, wish I knew what caused it to help you out, but I can tell you it happened each time I ran it (probably like 4 times just to be sure)

I think the strongest part of your game is the element of surprise. Without giving spoilers, the final level where you need to remove the thumb drive really made this fun. At the same time, I think the story ramps up just a bit too quickly.  I genuinely wanted a bit more of the tamagotchi experience where I could take care of these guys at least for 1 or 2 stages. Something to give me just a bit more connection to the lil guys before chaos happens, yknow?

That said, the theme, the meta narrative, everything here is so strong and well put together. I have a feeling you'll be a top contender for sure. Great job!

Developer

Thank for playing.

Yeah had planned on the "virus" part to be done relative quickly and loop so you could play the entire game where it was all cute and sweet.
-but never got around to it.

This is definitely one of my top picks.

Also, one of the games where the fun aspect executed really well 👌I am sure you will get to compete with dev pirates in finals 🫡

Great job 👍

Thank for playing "TinyTotchi"
And the kind words, though i dont think many will get what and why various things do something without looking in the stats menu :D
Or get stuck with not fixing the virus problem in the end.. those pesky screws.

Thank you for making a good game! When you have fun you have fun, that all that matters and your game feels more like a game rather than  just a round assignment 💪

This was really fun and had a nice art style. The start really reminded me of "There is no Game" which is cool. Great Job!

Developer

Thank for playing "TinyTotchi"

Ohh yeah, there was a lot of fun little things to figure out in "There is no game" :D i tried that.
- Hope you save all the TinyTotchi from the "EVIL" xlander virus.

Had a lot of fun playing this game,I can see a lot of the elements from Tomogotchi and the take on it was fun. Great job! I liked the violent end.

Developer

Thank you for playing "TinyTotchi"

Wonder if you removed the "virus" and saved them all? :)

Submitted

I didn't, I tried clicking on a lot of things, but all the blood made it hard to see anything. I'll try again after I play and rate the rest of the games.

Developer

hint- drag a screw.

Got it, thanks for the hint!

DONT play this on FIREFOX - construct 3 and firefox is not good friends, you could experience severe lag issues.
