Very good entry, you really stayed with the original Tamagotchi which I appreciated!

The sounds and art gives the game a really nice vibe! :)

For what's here and working, you nailed it! Wish there was a bit more to make it feel complete, but sickness is no joke. All around this is a really strong entry, and I'm anxiously waiting for an update.

Feed the lamb!

Very cute minimalist animations. I really liked the recreation of the original game's aesthetic and the overall vibe.

I also had a hard time figuring out what the other buttons did except for the play button, but after reading the comments, I realized that not all the functions were fully developed. It's a shame. The game looks really great.

It feels like the game has a real tamagotchi vibe. The sounds were pleasant, and while some of the mini-games were a bit tricky, the overall experience was really cool.

Was the game fun to play?

I really enjoyed the 3 mini games that I played (protect the egg, dodge the obstacles and feed the lamb). They are awesome games and I was able to understand and get far in them in no time. Also the game as a whole stays very true to the original and it’s great to see the pixel art designs.

Did the game include the core elements from the original?

Definitely. This is a very faithful recreation that has improved on the original in many ways. The pixel art for the characters is excellent and the variety of characters you can get adds a lot of replay value.

Was there a clear path of progression?

Yes. Having specific unlock requirements for different characters is a smart design choice and gives a clear goal.

How good was the audio and sound FX?

Most of the sounds were solid and fit the vibe well. The voice clip during the time setting phase at the start felt a little out of place to me but I can see how the robotic voice fitted with the time period. Overall the sounds are good, maybe some background music could be a nice future addition.

How well implemented was the UI?

Starting the game by pressing W, E and R was a clever way to teach the controls immediately. The icons look very nice and were easy to navigate, though I found it a bit confusing when I could highlight certain icons but not select them. Also, adding a reset icon within the game would be a great quality of life feature so players don't have to refresh the page to try for a different character but it's not super important to have.

The last point is something I totally agree on and is simply because I was ill with the flu for a week and also then wasn’t quite feeling it the week after, so it’s very much a half-finished product. Glad you enjoyed the character variety!

I agree with GameFavorites, the mini games really shined! The screechy audio added a lot to the experience and guidance! Was expecting to feed and bathe etc, but realised it was the games the way to move forward (which I didn't mind at all actually! Great adaptation!)
I read your instructions and played it a few extra times, I have to say, the music you managed to produce using the Egg obstacles was amazing!
And in the lamb feeding game, I definitely saw a bit of the creepy undertones you mentioned (don't even know what I was feeding the lamb with...)

The cute dog jumping around was so beautifully animated, every time it landed brought a smile to my face.

Congratulations for pulling such an amazing game off even while sick! I was seeing some of your screenshots on discord and couldn't wait to play! (the duck emoji is my favourite)

This was a cool take on the theme!

All the UI elements besides the "play" button were unclear to me in their purpose.

I liked how insanely hard the minigames got!

I got this one:

Nice work!

I didn’t have time to implement most of them, so they didn’t do anything. But they do reflect the original icons of the tamagotchi gen1!

I like that you stayed true to the original! SFX are supreme and contribute to the fun aspect a lot. Same for minigames - if I had those minigames on any of my nokias back in 00s I would be very happy.

I also liked how the creature evolves. Like you play the game protect the egg, it eventually hatches and the next evolution stage appears, you feed the lamb - next. I also liked that when you jump over the obstacles eventually you fail and the evolution will have these spinning eyes. (not sure if that is on purpose or I missed something, but if it is - that was a great touch!)

My only complaint is that when you don't feed the lamb the animation for bottle continues as if you would. I wish there was a handler for this edge case like the lamb turns towards the player, the game inverts colours and the lamb looks very angry or something like that, would be a good opportunity for a jump scare :D

Great work! 🤘

Gotta check the evolutions for what you mean by spinny eyes lol, not sure which one that is xD There are 7 different ones you can end up with depending on your performance across the mini games!

Good suggestion for the missing to feed! I wouldn’t put a jumpscare there though as the evil part is something I implemented only for when you deliberately play against the grain so to speak, not for just messing up. That said, it absolutely would benefit from another sprite there!

Maybe I got bad performance in mini games 😅 I'll try again 🙂

Really does bring back some retro memories, great take on it.

Definitely feels like a little device someone find in a attic or something, all dusted etc. but surprisingly still functional.

Got plenty of good mini games, that fits with the tamagotchi theme.
: Some felt difficult, like the sheep jump. could not really make out what was dangerous and what was not. Did not feel like i could jump over the "fences" but could be a skill issue from me.

Sam voice :D yay!

You done good with the limited time you had.

Developer

The fences can only be jumped over if you’re on something else, which is guaranteed to spawn before them ^^

Loved the UI and the game screen and all the mini games! Brings me back to these back when I was a kid. Well done!

Glad you enjoyed it despite the limited content!
