Very well done game. From the windows aesthetic to the nice story telling as well as the fun shooter mechanics. I do have to say I really wish there were more mobility options, I felt like being left to the mercy of the directions of the enemies got eventually a little frustrating. But overall had a great time, I ended up killing 2.3 billion people and couldn't figure out what glitch txt guy was trying to tell me lol

wow, just wow. Simple concept and visuals and fantastic effect through unusual gameplay and interesting plot. Really enjoyed playing

Really loved this game. The Windows aesthetic was really well done, the soundFX worked great, and the game mechanic using the turret recoil was very unique! Also loved the upgrade system. Would love to see more of this.

The Win95 setup is super clever. Hiding the usual menu stuff inside the Start button, and the readme.txt, editing .cfg file for upgrades, that whole layer adds so much to this game's world-building. Even being able the .exe midgame and stack windows just makes it feel legit. The attention to detail there is really impressive.

The actual gameplay holds up too. Moving purely through recoil is a cool mechanic. It forces you to think about every shot. I liked that it auto-fires but still requires you to aim properly. Upgrades felt meaningful, and the persistent progression loop kept me going. Getting those little narrative nudges after dying a few times was a nice hook as well. It made the story feel present without getting in the way of gameplay.

Visually it's simple, but the effects and feedback go a long way. I barely even though about the block shapes because everything else felt polished. This one of those jam games where you can tell a lot of thought went into it. This is a cool one.

Wow, thank you for such a thoughtful comment on our game! We took a bet on doing a lot with a little, and it's really nice to read comments like this one that highlight that 🙏 We will keep working on our game, and we'll keep this wonderful comment in mind when moving forward thoughout the journey!

This is a really interesting game. The presentation is outstanding. I love the whole Windows 95 desktop thing.

Developer

Thank you for playing our game and sharing your thoughts with us 🙏

I think this is one of the best audio fits for a game I have seen in this jam, and one of the games I enjoyed playing the most. I loved the way I could feel the improvement because of the power-ups after each game. Also the old Windows design is well made and super nostalgic for me :) Well done!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! We put quite some time into getting the audio as right as we could given the limited time. Really nice to hear that many of you who took the time to play it appreciated it 😄

Wonderful mix of things! The UI and vibes are really great. The progression is nice, too. I had a lot of fun--great job!

Thank you! We really appreciate the feedback, and are glad to hear that you enjoyed it!

Excellent game. Very creative mechanics. Its replay value is very strong. Congratulations on the work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I must say the same to you, very impressive work for a week.

This is incredible! super interesting, great theme, progression, story. Amazing for a game jame! And very cool win95 theme, only the most cultured of developers would take such a path.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

You're certainly correct and a developer must be especially cultured to have ".exe" in the name of their game! Kidding aside, your take on the whole win95 theme was very creative and interesting, great job on that!

saw someone saying this is potentially jam winner material. i have to agree. the audio was great, the visuals where great, the gameplay was fun and succeeded in getting my into a flow. i think the start could be a bit better explained but i figured it out quickly after being a bit confused. and while i was feeling a bit critical of the lack of movement controls when I got the mechanics down I understood and came to really enjoy the movement   and it was much more controlled than I expected early on. I'm getting the feeling enders game was an inspiration, if it wasn’t, the story is almost spot on in terms of theming and you might enjoy it.

average score 4.7/5

Wow, thanks for the praise! We worked really hard the entire week and even had to pull an all nighter the last night to get the game to the quality we wanted. So when we read stuff like this it makes us really happy and made the lack of sleep worth it!

We will look into making the onboarding better so it's easier to understand what you are supposed to do, do you have any suggestions of what would have helped you?

Neither of us has read or seen Enders game actually :D Is the movie good enough or do you recommend the book instead?

Submitted (1 edit)

Ive never seen the movie so i cant speak on its quality but the book is good. its been years since Ive read it tho.

maybe adding some instructions to the message folder and making it clear that you should go there first.

Awsome game! Had a ton of fun. Sound design is of really high quality.

Developer

Your game had a great vibe to it, nice work.

Very addictive game!

I beat level 3, and without revealing anything, the text led me to believe I had to go to "the real world", so I clicked "Shut down" but then the game just shut down. I wonder if there was something I needed to do after beating level 3...

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Thank you so much. The game is difficult according to the player feedback we have gotten so a real pro gamer move from you that you beat the entire game!

Also, great feedback. We didn't even think about that and will look into the best approach of dealing with that problem :)

Your game was quite addictive too and great lighting effects!

Sigh… Win95… Nostalgia!

Thanks! The physics in your game was really fun to play with too :)

This was a lot of fun to play. Also love the connection with Win95! The upgrade system and messages pushing the story line were great too. Really interesting game mechanics. It's something I'd definitely come back and play.

Developer

Thank you so much 🙏 So nice to see all the love for retro OSes. We'll keep on improving the game, and comments like these will keep us motivated while doing so! We'll for sure take the time to try out your game too 👌

I liked the shaders on the exe looked cool! and I liked that the menus were part of the virtual OS. Good times :)

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thanks you for the comment! Happy to hear that you enjoyed the way we chose to set up the game. We'll make sure to check out your game too ⭐

This was such a fun experience to play. I loved unlocking the messages as I made it further through the levels. I also really enjoyed the upgrades mechanic. Really well done on giving the player lots of feedback. The shots always felt great when they collided.

Developer

Great stuff, thank you for your feedback! We put a lot of our effort specifically in the areas you're mentioning, so we're delighted to hear that our bets are paying off!

Submitted

I love it! I really liked the atmosphere and the interface! The gameplay has that addictive feel typical of “vampire-survivor” games, and the idea of moving backwards when you hit an enemy is interesting and could open the door to many sub-mechanics.

I also love the music!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! We're really happy to receive such praise given how little time we all had to scramble something together 😄 We're open to any kind of suggestions for gameplay mechanics. Should you happen to come up with something we might be able to implement, feel free to shoot and we might very well include it in the game!

Submitted

I think some hidden mecchanics in the "window" interface would be cool, In my opinion it would fit very well!

Submitted

Fun game, could get into a flow state, though the third level I was getting frustrated with because I would navigate with boost at first very far and then the enemies would spawn an I'd end up back at the start. Got most of the upgrades maxed out. Nice job

Developer

Thanks for playing and commenting! Good job on getting that far! 💪 A challenging difficulty is one of our core pillars for the game, but we do hear you lead and clear on level 3 being too demanding given the machine's maximum capabilities. We've received some great suggestions on how to improve that part of the experience and we're looking forward to bringing them to the game soon!
