This whole thing was genius; you didn't need the export feature but it makes this thing a masterpiece. I especially love the one day that you 'work'.
Thanks!
I love this so much! Who knew making a game could be so easy? The BGM makes the HoloJam feel so cozy as well, it almost makes me want to do another one! Amazing work!
Thanks!
Oh no! How could you tricked me into making another gamejam! AAAh!!
Joke aside, this is quite fun meta game, you even go to the length of having an upload and the review page too!
My only fun suggestion is maybe add more option than the actual work day given so it would intensify the feeling of 'not being able to do everything so you have to cut some features'.
Overall, awesome game idea amazing work!
Thanks! I had plans for more things you could do, but it ended up being the same as the amount of days by the deadline.
Really fun meta game!
Does a pretty good job at translating the gamejam dev experience into a game, including the unexpected life events and times when you're just tired and want to distract yourself.
I really like that you can share your creations with other players. It's a really nice touch.
I think this is the first time I've actually made pixel art that is displayed in a game. Wow!
Some suggestions for the game:
- Parameter tuning day (jump height, run speed, fall acceleration, etc.)
- BGM compose and/or selection from pre-made assets (something like dova-s.jp)
- Logo design (for a title screen)
- More vertical space in the level designer
Very cool game!
Thanks for playing! Parameter tuning and music composing were both things I had considered adding, but didn't have time for. I had also thought of the player drawing a logo or automatically making a logo out of a few sprites from their game, but that wasn't in the time budget either. More vertical space would be pretty easy to add if I ever make an update, though I would have to change the way scrolling works.
funny diz gam iz
Quite meta!
Liked the idea and the flavor text was quite good (and accurate D:).
Loved that you could download and upload levels, pretty good!
Wish it had a little more Holo, hehehe~
Thanks for playing!
What a fun idea!
Glad I finally got around to this very meta submission, but its clearly not true to life, since you can somehow manage to get everything on the checklist done in the time period.
Jokes aside, this was really unique, and its awesome that you gave us the tools to share and play other levels. And great job on giving us just enough tools to get the basics done as far as making the sprites, feels accurate to me trying to get art done on my very limited drawing skills and very basic understanding of many drawing programs.
Props for the unique idea and good work getting all the systems together to both make the simulator, and set up the level sharing!
Thanks for playing!
Never thought about making a game jam simulator for a game jam. Really fun concept to make your own level that's playable and you can share with everyone as well. It's like our very own Steam Workshop. This does make me wonder if this was improved for the next jam to include custom scripting as well. Then people could potentially create a game jam simulator inside the simulator. :) Great job!
Thanks for playing!
Cool take on the theme! Way to go on re-emulating the daily life of a dev lol, im not really good at 2D platformers so i think i just made mine unplayable in terms of level haha, for such a sandbox style approach, the fact that you got this done within a game jam time and no apparant bugs is insane!
Thanks!
HOLY PEAKKKKKK. I really love games like these. I created myth_bad_end, and had a blast. i wasted a day testing tho, since i needed to see how the jumping worked, but well, that's a jam for you, no second chances.
It has some weird bugs when loading files (sometimes, it puts you back in the game after testing a game, sometimes there are 2 characters spawned, overlapped with each other and can separate, one time i got teleported into day 16 (???) of the jam and started to infinitely watch Ina streams xD). But despite all that, it is one of my favorite games in this jam!!!!!!!
It would have been the indisputed number 1 spot if the character movement was properly programmed: coyote time, no sliding, being able to turn around mid-jump. If you had exact control of the character, we could have had a bunch of incredible levels, geometry dash style. That was the only dissapointing thing this game had, but the rest is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I knew about those first two bugs with the files, but I don't know how you got to day 16 lol. I think it should be bug-free if you reload the game and click play submitted games from the main menu each time, but I'm not sure.
There is some coyote time, but maybe I should've added a little more. The slightly slippery movement is somewhat intentional, but maybe I should've reduced it a bit. I was going for movement physics similar to Mario games.
Yeah i was reloading the page and playing custom levels from the menu, i tried all of them and will probably try all at the end of the testing period again!
the day 16 bug was a bit weird, i finished playing an online level and spawned in the "choose what to do today" scene but the day was 16. I clicked to watch streams and the game got stuck on an Ina stream lol.
Uploaded to the google drive as "bae_vs_time". However, since I misunderstood what you meant by "obstacle" I've got a metal block instead of a dangerous thing. I also got the crash when setting the time limit, but after reading here I was able to recover the save. However, I noticed when playing the other games in the google drive that the game doesn't seem to be able to handle playing more than one without refreshing the page.
It's been a long time since my first jam (and far longer since my first game), so it was interesting to get a simpler experience again. I especially can't remember the last time I've tried designing a level without knowing how high a platformer character can even jump. Like, nowadays I would know basically the exact minimum and maximum parabolas and the distance they can reach when climbing at different angles before even considering designing a level.
Thanks for playing! I thought about letting the player adjust the characters movement or something like that, but that would've been something I implemented if I had a ton of extra time left.
This was great! You really captured the feel of this game jam lmao!!! When I designed the level with 4 days left, lost a day, and then had to playtest and then redesign on the last 2 days, it really felt like I was workin on the game jam all over again :')
I enjoyed the experience!
Thank you!
The fact that I can play what I designed is amazing, would like it if I could change the timer settings for the finished level tho. seems like I made it a bit too hard to finish it in a single try....
Thanks for playing! You should be able to change the timer settings by clicking "test the game" on the checklist and then reaching the goal. If you've already gotten to the end and downloaded your game, you can also just change the number in the text file.
that makes sense, i'll try and do that
Very innovative idea, making a game jam simulator that makes a functioning game for a game jam.
Thanks for playing!
Is a fairly fun lil' game, neat idea.
Thank you!
I love the meta approach to the theme, truly unique submission, well done!
Thanks!
Cool game! Sadly it crashed so all my pixel art was donezo I think, but I got to playtest it once at least (crashed afterwards on the input time limit screen).
Thanks for playing! I think your progress should still be saved if you load the game back up and click continue.
The idea of a game about making a game to submit to a game jam was really great. I especially liked that I can draw various sprites myself, create characters, build maps, and then actually play the game. The fact that everything can be exported as a TXT file and uploaded that way was surprisingly fascinating.
Thanks for playing!
This was actually the first game that i played because the concept immediately drew me in.
The Game looks so polished, the Pixel art is so clean and it just works. The Level editor near the End completely blew me away I should probably just use your game to create my submission for the next Jam :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely amazing meta idea. The concept alone made me laugh a lot, and the execution is top-notch. 10 outta 10/
Thanks!
Such a fun concept!! I love how well everything is done, had a great time making my pixel art. Unfortunately, our HoloJam Simulator games don't get grace periods... Great work!!
Thanks for playing!
