I really enjoyed the game. I played for eleven rounds and used all the spells, I think. I really liked that the third spell not only destroys enemies but also wipes everything, including the candies, which makes it a double edged sword. I loved that detail. The game progression was really good, which in my experience is rarely seen in endless games. I liked the art and the use of the trick or treat theme.

Well done.

Fun little game, I liked it.

Developer

Thanks very much :), glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

That was fun!

I liked the unusual visual style and funky mechanics. Cool tricks, I especially liked the upside-down thingy. Sounds were alright, but I felt like the music probably should have been more dynamic for this type of gameplay.

Thank you for the game!

Developer(+1)

That's fair on the music front,.. I just found a great set of tracks on the unit store, and decided to let them play through. I hadn't it in me to craft something more on that front (big to-do list :P), but moving forwards it's something I should give more time to.
Hah glad you liked the upside down thing, that took me to long to get the setup right for it :).

Thanks for playing! Much appreciated!

Nice little endless runner,  the visuals are simple but the gameplay is well implemented so i had a lot of fun, i like the trick or treat mechanic.

Developer

Thanks! It took me a few days to come up with that element of the game, and then a big tweak to it on the last day, with the increase in spell duration.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Submitted(+1)

Simple visuals and base mechanic, yet diverse upgrades and challenging levels.

That was fun!

Developer(+1)

Thanks. Art isn't my strong suit, so keeping it simple, distinct and clear was my main aims on that front.
I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Thanks for playing!

fun game with great visuals, maybe the spells could've been introduced in some way when you start the game, or if you could use them with out mouse that would be quite cool also! but i had fun with it good work!

Developer(+1)

the spells can be activated by the keyboard keys 1,2,3 rather then mouse clicks, if thats what you mean?
Yeah, with a bit more time and plot, I could have done something more with the spells, but I decided to leave it as somthing for the player to explore and discover for themselves.

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it :)

Submitted(+1)

i figured that out eventually, just thought maybe it could be to have option to doit both ways :)

The concept of Witch Runner is engaging, with its endless runner mechanics and the unique "trick or treat" choices adding depth to the gameplay. However, some players have noted that the art style could benefit from clearer visual distinctions between elements to enhance readability. Additionally, while the controls are straightforward, offering gamepad support could improve accessibility for players who prefer alternative input methods. If you have a moment, I'd appreciate it if you could check out and rate my Halloween jam game too: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-halloween-jam-2025/rate/3971977

:)

Developer

why has Chat GPT done a summery of my reviews? :D

i really struggle with english and wording and stuff i just used it to finalise it. hehe sorry abt that!

This was really fun!

Looking at the screen shots I was almost expecting this to be more like a subway surfer style, where you had to pick a lane. But I'm glad the movement ended up being free! I made it to wave 9 before the obstacles eventually got the better of me. I had just taken a curse that prevent mana spawns and I ran out right at the worst moment. But if I hadn't lost I'd be stuck here playing all day, it's a very fun game loop!

Awesome job!

Developer

Awesome, glad you liked it :)

thanks for playing! much appreciated

Had alot of fun with this endless runner! I did like the abilities and the trick or treat mechanic. And the character tilts did emphasize the movement alot. It would be nice if the designs were a bit simpler with more color distinction between the characters, background, UI so that it's clearer and more distinguishable.

But I enjoyed the gameplay alot! Keep it up

Developer

Thanks. Yeah plenty to work on art design wise moving forwards.
Thanks for the feedback and for playing, much appreciated.

Awesome submission! I genuinely had fun snatching up those candies. The choice of "tricking" or "treating" is a really cool addition too. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks :)!
The Trick/Treat went through a few revisions. Adding the spell duration to Trick was throw in on the last day, but it needed it to make it worthwhile. I wish I had more testing time, but I had a lot of fun making this.

Thanks for playing!

Ayyye what good endless runner fam! I made one too for this jam.

Pretty cool. I liked the movement with the witch! You really nailed that.

I thought the art style worked!

I think I would have simplified the colors used to just a few then relied on shape for the player to  distinguish what is what.

If you got a sec check my endless running out!  Would love some feedback!

Developer

Thanks :), much appreciated!

Nice fly game,  quite fun and relaxing, jaunty mcabre music fits well. Good use of powerups and spells. Really liked the clear instructions ..  missing from many entries - including mine :)

Developer

Thanks! glad you enjoyed it :)
I normal end up with over complicated games for a Jam, that need a wall of text to explain,...
So developing this one, I wanted to keep it simple, and I was very happy with my into/pause page :)

Thanks for playing and the feedback, much appreciated!

I had a pretty smooth experience with your game.  I liked the gradual increase in difficulty in the level design.  I appreciate the little tilt you put on the character when moving forward and backward.

The TV background fits the theme of the jam, but I found it visually distracting, which could ultimately limit how long I play the game.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

yey im glad you noticed the tilt. Was one of the early things I put upon, right after movement :), just felt it helped sell it more!
Fair, and free'd from the jam theme, I'd consider somthing different,.. I would like to continue this game, and explore some different takes on it.

Thanks for playing and your feedback! much appreciated

Submitted(+1)

The game concept is really cool! I think the vector art could be completely filled instead of the outline.

Developer

It is technically filled in,. just with Black :D
totally is just basic shapes though :), and something to work on for continuing this game! Just had to keep it quick and clear for the Jam.

Much appreciated though, thanks for the feedback and for playing!

Got 83 seconds in through Endless mode, neat game.

Developer(+1)

,.... you ACTUALY made it to phase 20,... ?!
I've not ever managed that yet! :D
You are the chosen one!!!

Submitted(+1)

It's a tad bit RNG dependent since on the first try I got wrecked hard from the inverted controls trick on wave 19. Otherwise, I timed the shield spell whenever a mana orb was nearby and used the invul to grab as much candy as I could in order to have enough between waves.

Developer(+1)

sounds good :).
My theory was using Tricks early on to up the spell duration, and then saving enough to be able to not need a trick again.
But to be honest,.. I through the duration thing in on the last few hours, as I felt the Trick concept wasn't worthwhile on its own.. upped the Treat amount, and didnt get change to play test it enough,.. to much time spent making and not play testing, literally didnt think anyone would make it through the difficulty levels I'd set for the top waves :D,..  meant it when I added that win condition and endless mode, that I never thought anyone would see it :P.
So glad you played it enough to get that far! helps me balance peoples skills in these sorts of games vary wildly, especially as I look to move forward with the concept in some way.

Thanks again!

Very fun and engaging game!

Developer

Thanks very much! much appreciated!

A very fun fast-paced game! control bindings are just perfect and the flight handling is smooth, mechanics are easy to understand as well. Eventhough I'm not a fan of the overall look of the game, it does make it very easy to differentiate between pickups and hazards. Overall, I really enjoy this game!

Developer(+1)

My arts not up to scratch :D, especially for Jam constraints,.. but moving forward with this, I should probably look to improve those Hazards look (I assume its the basic shapes side of things). Yeah, simple, bold identifiable was what I went for.

Glad you had fun playing, and thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Submitted(+1)

Fun game, I like it a lot! Good music, graphics are simple but look nice.
I like the controls -  Arrow keys plus 1,2,3 seems pretty natural & easy to remember. (I didn't actually unlock the third spell, though)

Developer(+1)

third spell auto unlocks with the,.. 5th or 6th treat I think. So loud like you went Trick a few times early on, (valid choice for longer spells),..
I've not found the best strategy myself yet, as I added the Trick increasing spell duration in the last few hours, to make it more of a choice.

Glad the controls felt right for you, hope you get chance to have another go, and see if you can be the first to make it to my secret win screen after phase 20 :P (impossible I think :D)

Submitted(+1)

Game is really fun!

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it :)

Submitted(+1)

Oh awesome, you added a witch’s laugh into the game. After getting the upside down “trick,” I never picked “trick” again lol. I guess I would like to see a more forgiving hitbox for the player. Well done!

Developer (1 edit)

yes, perhaps her hat and broom shouldn't count in the hit box :).

yes upside down is  a pretty tough trick, but if you play again,.. I suggest hitting trick on the early easy rounds to build up spell duration.. then with the saved candy.. focus on the treats :)

I should do a run through myself trying to get to my own secret win screen :P

thanks for playing and for the feedback! :)
