As an ui-prototype it is fine, but in its current form there is little reason to use any other skill than the hat-skill, because it does the most damage as far as I can tell. In a one-on-one combat to find a good use for a defend-skill there has to be some kind of indicator that a strong attack is coming. As long as the enemy uses his attacks at random you are probably better of just trying to out-damage him. Strong skills could need a cooldown, that you don't spam them and ignore all others. The hat-switching seems interesting when more types of enemies are available.
The art has a raw stlye that is charming. The TV-head... moderator? looked cool too. It has promise, but it needs more work ;)
I think you have nailed the visual theme! And the game is simply an "art"! Also the concept is very unique. loved it.
Glad you liked it!
Cool prototype! I like the idea of swapping hats to gain different abilities, would have been nice if there were some more strategic challenges to test them. Also, the visual style is something, I love how raw and expressive it is, and the use of color is very nice!
Thank you Valeriy for your comment! Allowing people to strategize better would make the combat for meaningful. I'm glad you like the art style.
The music was awesome! The turn-based move system was fun to play with, though I did end up just spamming the stem slash to win. Lots of potential if you continue to develop the game!
I'm glad you liked the music, I got it from Pixabay. They have some really good music on there and SFX as well. As other commenters suggested I should add more abilities/hats/strategy to make the battles more interesting haha. Thank you for your comment.
The concept of Haunted Hat is intriguing, offering a unique twist on turn-based combat. However, the gameplay could benefit from clearer instructions and more intuitive mechanics to enhance player engagement. The art style is charming, but some visual improvements could further elevate the game's appeal. If you have a moment, I'd appreciate it if you could check out and rate my Halloween jam game too: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-halloween-jam-2025/rate/3971977
:)
Thank you for your feedback Iron Halo! Yeah sure no problem, I can do that for you.
thanks so much! great job again good luck!
I love the game's concept of a turn-based duel! The upbeat music keeps things lively and keeps the user's interest even if there are (by design) lapses in the duel while thinking strategy. The music and the nature of the game compliment each other and maintain a balance which keeps the user's attention and focus. Suggested future enhancements could be animated projectiles when attacks commence. And I wasn't entirely sure which character I was of the two actually, so possibly a further enhancement could be a visual clue as to who's who in the game. While I do like the limited color palette, I feel that the graphics could use a bit of an upgrade (but they do convey the meaning of the game adequately). Amazing that you submitted this project with only 3 minutes and 30 seconds before the gamejam's deadline! I feel that this game has a lot of potential behind it, and the concept is really solid. A worthy submission to the gamejam! Oh yeah, also I experienced in the browser in full screen mode that the sides were clipped off slightly, maybe about 5% to 10% of the screen's width, but this is probably a minor bug to fix.
I appreciate that you took the time to write detailed feedback. The future enhancements would be really helpful to people playing the game. What kind of upgrades should be added to the graphics? And yeah I got lucky, I was waiting for the web build to be finished but it was taking a while so I went ahead with submitting a windows build. I definitely need to fix the resolution.
I know you are still working on things but it's a good start. I like the color palette, it feels very retro. It will be cool to play again once you have all the hats available.
I played the web version. I had it at fullscreen, but the sides were cut off a bit. (it was still playable, though)
I'm glad you like it, I definitely should have put the other hats in and some different abilities. I messed up on the resolution unfortunately :/
its good. i like the art. i am slightly confused one what the different hat types do and why it said there are multiple enemy types
Thank you! So it's supposed to have a RPS system based on the hat you choose. Looking back on it, I probably should have cut it out since I also didn't implement another hat choice.
The idea was that if a player had a different hat, they would be able to switch to it and use the abilities associated with said hat they chose.
that sounds cool. Maybe something you could add after the jam
Im a big turn based fan and my main project is one. so this was nice for me. i wish there had been some more ability options cause it got really redundant quick, but its a game jam so there is only so much you can have time for.
overall good job. music was super fun and i liked the unique feeling art. it had a lot of character
if you get a chance please rate our submission :)
I'm glad you liked the game. Yeah I think after reading all the feedback I got, I definitely should have added more options (especially with changing hats...)
cool concept, how ever i noticed that the game didn't fit into the window size you made without going to webgl, then by going into fullscreen you could see unitys empty skybox. also switching hats seemingly did nothing and i couldn't get to level 2 despite beatin the first enemy. but great idea and i like the art, it's fun! after a bit of polishing it'll be a good game :)
Yeah I messed UP on the resolution lol. I'm glad you liked the idea, thank you for your feedback.
Going to have to help me out here,.. not sure what im doing wrong,... attached a video of my play through, so you can see how a player coming to this with no clue about the game, attempts to play it.
Please don't get mad at me :D, this is me genuinely trying to play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVCwT8YeIA0&feature=youtu.be
I go to the hat page,.. then can't click or do anything there, and can't get out of it,..
I tried to attack but I'm getting hit for more damage,.. so eventually die first,.. Then theres only a quit button which doesn't let me get back to menu to re-try
Also I press attack, and the damage comes up on the side make player first,.. which seems that the enemy is attacking first,.. feel counter intuitive,..
Seeing plenty of comments bellow from others who I'm assuming have been able to play it,.. so don't know what I'm doing wrong here
Hi Peter, thank you for your comment! I think it's a resolution issue. I do not think it has been configured properly for other scren sizes as I knew someone who had the same issue you did regarding the hat page.
To go back, you need to press Z on your keyboard. It's unfortunately cut off on your screen.
I can definitely see what you mean with the position of the damage feeling counter intuitive.
ahh got it,.. managed to use "Skill" to win,.. and get the 100 points! woo :) , though wasn't able to change hats still :(
Nice concept idea though, hope you continue with it!
Hey man - great little game here. I could only manage to get 100 points. Is there a way to get 800 that I'm missing? Took me a couple of tries to realise I could just spam the special kill to win. I enjoyed this experience and there's a good base here to build on if you so choose :)
Thank you, I just capped it at 100 since it's a prototype haha. I'm glad you liked it and thank you for comment.
I love the aesthetics, the color choice + TV theme reminds me of Vox from Hazbin Hotel
Great work! =)
Thank you Dorsa!
Nice prototype for a game. i would have liked to see more synergies with the different hats. Of course i depends on your view, but i would limit the use of the special attack, Now i could keep spamming it and there was no reason no to do it.
Thanks, I agree putting in a different hat would have been a good to do. Yeah the special attack should be limited haha.
Could be a fun base for a more complete game, the hat changing mechanic is an interesting hook
Thank you, I agree.
Original Game of rock paper scissors, wone one, lost one, nice messy graphics
Thanks for commenting, hope you enjoyed!
I really like the game concept, and the idea that changing the hat changes your abilities is great. It opens up a lot of fun possibilities and depth for gameplay. I’m a big fan of turn based games myself, so I’m excited to see more of it.
By the way, shout out to the art style, I really like it. In this jam, I’ve seen many who use common art styles in cool, unconventional ways, yours included. Great work!
Thank you, I think it would have been better if I was able to showcase actually using another hat for the jam. I'm glad you like the art.
I like this style of game. I hope you keep working on it. It helps if the options are defined, so we can create a winning strategy. After dying, I had to quit and restart the game. It would be great if, after dying, I am pointed back to the title page.
Thank you! Can you tell me a bit more about the options being defined? That's a good suggestion to be pointed back to the title page.
I love the art style and story telling it is cool and attract me.
I think the game is lack visual feed back. It is still a great work for dev this solo! :)
I'm glad you liked it ShadowDoge. Visual feedback is a good improvement that I need to work on.
Instantly eye catching art style, color palette and page design! Solid and consistent art direction overall.
Few comments:
Oh, and one more things - there is no such thing as closing / exiting the game if it’s a web build, so consider hiding the corresponding button when making the web build. It’s a tiny thing, but it’s generally a good practice to keep the game clear of unusable elements.
Thank you for your comment Ilya, you have been very helpful. I'll take a look at particle effects and moving the player. I'll remember to hide the quit game option for the web build.
