How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
Themes of luck run throughout the game - from the plot point of a broken mirror, the main character of the black cat, and the townspeople experiencing all manner of misfortune. The antagonist also influences gameplay with his set of magic dice - lower rolls negatively impact the player, but lucky clovers increase the chance of higher rolls with positive outcomes!

This is very impressive, the sound, the graphics, it's all very nice.

Just some small things, it'd be nice to see how many shards I have. A map could be nice. Bombs are both way too big in number and I'd imagine you can get softlocked by running out.

Developer(+1)

thanks so much for playing and the critiques!

The current number of shards can be viewed in the pause menu. Wanted a map but ran out of time :( bombs are an enemy drop - wanted to make townspeople give items out as gifts after you help them but ran out of time :(

Submitted

So they are. There doesn't seem much reason to interact with them and there seems to be some space left in the UI for them.

I don't think I've seen enemies drop bombs, maybe the "gifts", whatever they are, are bombs?

Wow, and all that in just 10 days! Your game really gives me true Zelda vibes — and that’s a good thing :-). A really beautiful game!

Developer

Thank you thank you thank you!

Exceptionally charming! The mechanics are fun, the character designs are cute, and the soundtrack is quite adventurous! The scope of the game is impressive, and the story is heartwarming. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Fortuna's parents are simply much larger than everyone else!

The audio seems to be mixed quite loud. Most combinations of music and sound effects peak the audio above 0 dB.

Fantastic! Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  Haha, fortuna's parents are one of the few sprites that I had to throw together myself, so the scale with all the beautiful artwork my brother made was just a bit off.

I'm so glad we were able to finish it, even though that meant things like the dungeon being excessively simple, and many of the other tools and enemy types we wanted to include were omitted.

The audio is WAY too loud, I'm used to producing standalone music, not game music, and I need to get that figured out.  Thank you for playing and for the comment!

I am devastated... I got hit by an enemy and sent behind the collision walls. I couldn't continue ;-;

BUT

That didn't prevent me from having a blast. Genuinely the game that made me feel the most nostalgic of all the entries I've played so far... It got me right back to childhood, and ohdid it feel good.

Gorgeous palette, adventurous music that made me smile confidently the first 3 notes, a very interesting spin on the topdown zelda formula with the rabbit's rolls it ties everything perfectly, the ideas are perfect. I'll definitely finish it later, it made me feel that good xD

Also, my first full 5 stars review! I don't think the game is perfect from what I've seen, and a lot of polish might be needed, but the feeling was just SO RIGHT, I can't convince myself to put a single star lower than 5 xD

Thank you. Genuinely hope you had a blast doing it!

Developer(+1)

I’m so sorry your run was disrupted!  I need to figure out how to resolve instance of actors getting stuck within collisions - if you save and quit and reload your save that should at least let you continue!

My brother is due all the praise for the palette and the art and I agree they look great!

I so appreciate the kind words, you’re awesome for taking the time to be so kind!

I liked the charming various side characters and the music and the dedication to the zelda aesthetic. It did feel disorientating at times when you ran into a enemy while just entering another part of the map to then get a knockback. Some parts of the map felt like abit more of the same due to the enemies but there was alot of content made in 10 days which is impressive.

Im also at the final dungeon trying to get the chest behind the immovable blocks, Any tips?

Developer(+1)

You’re absolutely right - some of the content gets a little samey, and I really wanted to make it so that knockback wouldn’t push you to a new screen but didn’t get around to it.

Thank you so much for the kind words and critiques!  The blocks in the final dungeon are actually pushable, you just have to press on them for about one full second :)

Thanks for the tip about the block pushing. I was so close to the end, I replayed it through to the boss, the yarn was pretty op. Great effort.

Just so you know, there is a room where you can exploit additional health infinitely because the gift doesnt become empty.
Developer

thank you for letting me know!

This game was really really charming, the gameplay is fun and, while the map felt a bit too hard to navigate, there was a good bit of variety, and helping the NPCS was sweet. I just think it would be better if the enemies defeated couldn't respawn, to make killing them more worthy and satisfying than just running through!

Art is amazing. I liked the music a lot, but the overall audio volume was a bit too loud at first and i had to lower a lot the volume of my PC, but nothing alarming. I also got stuck in some walls sometimes because of the knockback of the enemies, but glad there was a save system to solve that issues for now. Was a bit tricky to beat, but I managed to do it after some time! (i'm a zelda fan, moving specific blocks can't stop me)

Great game, had fun and I can see a lot of care and effort put into it! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  I agree with are your critiques, the game really has no system for dealing with the character getting caught inside a collision, and adding a respawn timer was on my to-do list if we had had time.  I am so grateful that you played it all the way through and that all the Zelda nods stood out to you!

No problem! And don't worry, these small issues are nothing serious. I had a lot of fun with it, congrats! :)

Wow, there's a lot of content here, very impressive for a jam game.
Lovely presentation and solid game overall, congrats!

Fantastic submission - I am really impressed by the scope of this game and how you incorporated the secondary theme. Well done!

Developer

thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I’m glad you like it!

I like this little adventure! It's pretty impressive how much you were able to get in here! I think my favorite moment was unlocking the yarn ball and understanding how it worked

Developer

Thank you so much!  The vast majority of the time (for me) was spent just writing the systems to allow for all the interactions I wanted, then actually filling out the map with enemies and obstacles didn’t take nearly as long!

Thanks SO MUCH for the kind words.

I’m impressed you made it to the hookshot - oops, I mean yarn ball!  The bummer is the final boss is the part I’m most proud of and I bet no one will make it there, the game is too long!

Submitted(+1)

yeah tbh i got back to actually doing my day job after I couldnt find the last mirror shard haha - i was so close!

Developer

holy cow!  Incredible!  I played it all the way through a few times and would frequently find myself missing one of the shards and not being able to remember where it was…

Submitted(+1)

interesting game but I feel that the bgm is a bit too loud :"D

the enemy variations are interesting but some are placed too near to the transition area making the player unable to progress because of taking a damage

the visuals are beautiful too

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!
