Very nice integration of the theme! The music and art fit really well with the game.
As others already said, you can work on making it more intuitive. Not a lot of people read all the tutorials before jumping in the game 😁
What you could also do is prompt the level up menu as soon as you level up or make an animation because I ALWAYS forgot to level up and sometimes I had two levels to catch up ^^
Good job!
Hey! Very cool art and music, and I found the theme integration really interesting! I must say I did find it quite challenging to get into, but to be fair that's also to be expected with this kind of gameplay depth. That said, really loved to see a highly strategic game!
Really amazing and cute art style and I really enjoyed the gameplay! Fit the theme really well :)
The art is fantastic and the gameplay highly interesting and creative! I can tell that a lot of thought and care was put into the making of this game.
Some things, like UI and tutorials could use work, but those things are hard to nail down in such a short period of time. I did enjoy the writing itself in the tutorial, though!
The art is amazing but the game could really use a playable tutorial, the instructions are.. a lot. Great job and great fit for the theme!
I love the artstyle! The game encapsulates the feeling of progressing towards the grand goal very well. I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of mechanics all at once >_< Maybe gradually introduce different resources or moves. Either way I had a lot of fun playing the game, even though I did not manage to completely beat the game I still enjoyed the experience <3
I finished the main project and managed to push a rock up a mountain for a while! Cute art (with skill icons that are quite describable). Theme is integrated nicely. I like the idea of random events that affect your state - that makes you adapt the strategy.
To be honest, I didn't read all the tutorials in the "?" tab initially and was somewhat confused. After clicking and hovering for a while, I figured controls out. Maybe it's just my experience but I find "gather reference" ability quite strong :D
Nice game, good job!
Well done on finishing the game, and I'm glad you seemed to enjoy it. I felt like adding something like the events is kinda pivotal for strategy games in general. These are games where the point is to figure out the best way to do a thing, but if you do that then you have figured it out and there's no more gameplay. A changing effect like in this case the events can in my humble opinion put the strategy back into the strategy game by making you rethink the strategy ...... STRATEGYYYY!!!
Also Gather Reference is indeed too strong. The reason for this is that the full idea is to have 3 main projects each run and then if you do that to have a big final endless one. This means that the studied effect applied by the ability would be removed 3 times rather then once as it is in this barebones version. This would automatically make it significantly weaker (maybe even too weak???). I chose to leave it in this state for the jam simply cuz I thought it would be funny and most people wouldn't notice how stronk it actually is.
I like the artwork a lot. Morgan is adorable! Not gonna lie though. I'm not sure how I could get to 3000 progress in 30 days. I played it a few times to figure everything out and the furthest I got was just over 1100. I'm not sure if I'm just supposed to ignore all the side quests or if there are obvious chains that I'm missing, but it feels like I'm making minimal progress even when I'm trying to build systems that work together. I found it funny that you can just end the run whenever you want by just spamming meditation until you make Morgan cry. Just the idea that you could meditate yourself into an existential crisis. XD
Hehlows, I hope you still enjoyed your time with the game even though you didn't get to successfully make the potion.
I intended for it to not be a free win unless you use at least most of the mechanics well but also make it possible to go WAY above 3k. Here's a few tips if you want to give it another try.
Use synergies between abilities to make them stronger then the sum of their parts.
Plan when you want to use your level up abilities to the best of their effect.
Use the overtime and overwork mechanics to squeeze out as much as you can from each day
Prioritize the main project and let deadlines go on for as long as you can, so you can level up faster and deal with the side tasks more efficiently.
Hope these help! If you want even more insight, there is still more to give.
Oh hey! You're the team that volunteered in that stream, aren't you? That's awesome, great to see the finished version.
I can't get over how cute the art is. Every ability icon was so well thought of and adorable.
The first thing I noticed when starting the game is that you are just tossed into it. That's not such a bad thing--if anything, I kind of like it, lengthy tutorials tend not to be too interesting. But I have to say that the systems are not necessarily self-evident, and I think some people could get confused. I don't think the game is worse for it, but I was just hoping you would find that bit of feedback useful!
I've by now finished the game, and I loved it. I filled out your survey and I hope it helps a lot! This honestly is just straight up a solid game, I could see this being sold on Steam.
I really loved stacking up buffs and then making powerful Pomodoro chains.
I'm glad you showed up in my queue, and it's nice to see how the game developed since the lecture.
Painter Witch Morgan is my fave haha I'm so happy to see how this game has progressed since your showcase on the Game Loop guest lecture! I left feedback on your form and look forward to you developing the game further. It's a really good game idea and with more tweaking, I could see myself playing it a lot!
Thanks for the kind words! We're also looking forward to witness the game progress from these barebones stages. As such we may also be looking forward for playtesters (wink).
Please reach out if you do need play-testers! Happy to support this team!
Congrats on the game! Very cute and charming, I enjoyed playing it! I found it a bit hard to figure it out at first (there's a lot of information and my brain had a hard time taking it all in) also it's hard to tell when you level up, but other than that it's very enjoyable.
Hehlows, glad to hear you liked our game and yea, the information is a huge bottleneck. We tried to do what we could with the time constraints. In the future it is one of the most important areas we want to look at.
Very fun game with strategy and a relaxing soundtrack! I enjoyed it a lot :))
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you found the soundtrack Relaxing :)
I liked that there is some long term planning involved. The art is very cute! The game mechanic makes me feel like I'm fighting monsters in an RPG, but with the leveling system from persona.
I'm glad to hear that you liked it!
The thing with the it feeling like an RPG is cause I am a turn based combat nerd and from the start my intention was to make a turn based combat game and then add the theme onto it.
What's the leveling system from persona? I not quite aware of it, I played persona 5 and for nlonly like 2 palaces.
It reminded me of how in persona you also live a daily life and can do things to level up and prepare for the palaces. Because you can power nap and mediate, and the theme is about being productive in Morgan's daily life if that makes sense.
Ah I see, I didn't look at it from that angle. My mind was fully on that turn based grind so I was only thinking of the in palace/combat level ups.
