How does your game fit the theme?
You are protected from the sandstorm in the desert by a slowly moving shield bubble. This limits your space, since you take damage outside the bubble and have to carefully plan time outside of the bubble to activate the pyramids.
All assets were created for this game specifically and of course restricted to only pyramids, spheres, pentagons and circles.
Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
This was my first game jam and I had a blast coming up with this game within the theme and restrictions. I also really enjoyed the community while hanging out in the Discord posting about my progress and reading others updates and struggles. Good supportive vibes!

I like the flying scoffer. Please rate my game
You did a great great job on the visuals and creating something original for this jam! And here I thought a saucer was that plate you place bellow your plant pots. π Haha. The more you know! I sadly didn't manage to complete the game, but I did notice you can regain your shield bubbles over time, lovely addition, smart thinking. It's not you, it's me. I definitely suffer from some skill issues! Lovely entry to this jam! π+ points for adding a backstory.
Hey thanks a lot for playing and the feedback!
what an amazing game you made !!!
I really liked the visuals .. you used the shapes limitation so smartly
I want to say you did a great job on the UFO movement it feel so satisfying
for the gameplay the game is fun .. but feel a bit slow .. and adding some ppower-ups would be great
the sfx is so nice and clean and the game fits the theme
Very cool visuals on this game, I especially liked the sandstorm effect. The gameplay was solid but felt a little slow while waiting for the bubble to move. It would've been fun to add some power ups like a way for the player to heal up or move faster. Overall, solid submission!
Awesome game! Its a little difficult - i could only get to 4/10, but im sure with a few more tries i could have done better. The controls feel very smooth and the way the spaceship moves is really satisfying! The best part about this is the art, though,, didnt feel like there was any shape constraint.. great work on this!
Some points which you could add which would improve the feel would be some feedback after the spaceship is hit, it would go a long way! Some balance tweaking to make it a bit easier for example reducing the frequency of the turret bullets early on could probably help.
Other than that, really well done! And for a first time jam.. wow :)
Hey thanks for playing and commenting.
Feedback could definitely use some improvement. It would both make it play more intuitively and could add some "juice" as well. There's this popular Unity plugin/asset called "Feel" that should be ideal for this. I recently bought it on sale and want to try to (over)use it next jam, just to see what it can do :D
Cheers!
Feel is awesome, i also have it and have now started to use it one feature at a time in my projects as well :) Theres definitely a lot you can do with it!
Your game impresses with its creative use of the limited shapes, strong design choices, and a clear interpretation of the theme. While the game play is engaging but repetitive and the audio fairly basic, the overall experience is still very enjoyable and polished. Very nice entry! Here is how I actually rated it and why:
Game play / Fun / Engagement βββββ
The game play works well and feels challenging. The introduction of the controls is clear, the UFO flying work fine and controls feels smooth. I liked the big goal of activating all 10 pyramids. It gives you something meaningful to push toward. However, itβs also quite hard to manage since you can get hit quickly, and because the only actions are flying around, staying in space, activating pyramids, and avoiding bullets, it can feel repetitive after a while. Maybe the time in between different bullets could be extended to further increase the overall experience. I also can imagine that different "power-ups" may be the perfect fit for your game! Still, the challenge and goal kept me invested, so I rate game play 4 out of 5.
Art Style / Visuals βββββ
The design is excellent and one of the highlights. You used the given shapes in a very creative way! The pyramids look great, the UFO is inventive, and the animations bring everything to life. It doesnβt feel like the game is limited to shapes at all, which is impressive. The only small issue I noticed is that text sometimes gets interrupted, but this might just have been from me tabbing out... Full 5 out of 5.
Audio / Sound Design βββββ
The audio is functional and fits the setting. I liked the use of sound effects and the sandstorm atmosphere, but overall, the mix feels a bit unbalanced and volume of the different effects is also quite different. Eventually the sound design doesnβt stand out and I am missing a nice music track for this kind of game. Thatβs why this is a 3 out of 5.
Theme βββββ
The theme is nailed perfectly. You literally have limited space to move and survive while working toward your goal, and the design makes this restriction feel central to the experience. Full 5 out of 5 here.
Great, extensive feedback and I fully agree with your points. Sound design was definitely the most underinvested part of the game. I started working on a soundtrack, but never got it finished and the sound effects stopped at "good enough for now".
Powerups was also what I thought of and would give the game more depth, making a dash to a pyramid outside the bubble worthwhile.
Cheers!
It looks so good, I particularly love the style of the UFO and the animations - you'd put in a ton of effort there and it shows. The death animation is excellent, it feels so weighty, and the diagetic UI is π
I think the ship controls could do with some work, I want to move faster and heal faster - you can balance this with other parts of the game (smaller bubble, longer time to wait to activate a pyramid for example) but I felt like it was just a little bit too sluggish to feel "fun" for me. There's a really neat core there, though, good job π
Each time I get my ass handled to me after activating the 8th pyramid. So close, yet so far!
The strongest parts of the game are the graphics and the use of the theme. With graphics you made great use of the limitation. Using pyramid-shape as, well, pyramids may seem obvious, but it works really good! The particle effects add to the atmosphere, and really sell the sandstorm. Definitely one of the best looking games in this jam!
As for the theme use- this is how I feel "limited space" should be utilized. The space isn't only limited, but the limitation is a constant factor in the gameplay! Better yet- in your game you can BREAK this limit, but at a cost!
Compared with the theme use and presentation, audio is ok. The sounds tell me what's happening, the wind sound adds to the sandstorm particle effect, the pyramid sound is ok (maybe a bit annoying :))
As for the gameplay- as I said, I didn't manage to finish the game, so I think the difficulty is a bit high, especially for a jam game. If the turrets shots were just a bit more apart I feel like I could finish it :) Then again- the game kept me coming back, even though I kept dying in the same place. I kept trying different tactics (that devolved into frantically dodging shots).
Over all? One of the best games I played so far in this jam! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the praise, means a lot.
Fair criticisms.
Difficulty needs some tweaking for sure. Slapped the level design together at short notice at the end of the jam after finishing the mechanics. It's doable though (but I don't blame anyone for giving up after a few tries)
Sound is also a bit cobbled together. Some sounds are good, some not so much.
I really enjoyed that narrative and language for this game. i managed to complete it on the 3rd try! i appreciate the space between the turret bullets being just enough for me to slip by, and them fading out promptly.
i thought the health indicator was really clever, but maybe in an easier difficulty the recovery speed could be faster. i also like the look of the game, you wouldnt even expect that you were limited to 2 shapes (and pentagons Lol)
i did agree with 2 of the previous comments being that the bubble is too slow, and you might miss a pyramid, but these do contrast so its hard to find balance. perhaps if you choose to develop this further, difficulty modes could be an idea, or having more than the required amount of pyramids on the map. gg!
Hey thanks. Glad you liked it. And completed it too, cool!
I cobbled the level design together in a really short time, so it needs some tweaking for sure. Good suggestions on the difficulty modes.
Cheers!
This game looks very good. I followed your screenshots on Discord and I was really curious. I have a couple comments: 1) itβs a little difficult to tell whether Iβm inside the bubble or not. 2) I understand how the bubble makes the game align with the theme but it moves too slow and I have no agency to tell where it moves, it feels like it just slows down any progress. I wanted to go out to activate pyramids but I would run out of energy very soon, maybe slow down the energy drain OR increase the rate of increase while inside the bubble and increase the movement speed so the player can do quick expeditions outside the bubble.
Hey thanks for playing and your feedback. The bubble needs improvement for sure. The sandstorm audio is louder outside the bubble, but there's no clear visual edge because of the camera perspective. Some small highlight or animation on the ship when it's under protection maybe would do the trick.
The agency is definitely a fair point too. Time was simply too short to take it further. I was planning for the pyramids to give out powerups on activation, like a speedboost, increased bubble size or extra health, making the trips outside the bubble more forgiving. I'll take your suggestions to heart as well if I decide to develop it further.
Cheers!
Fun game concept, and looks pretty good too, the only issue i find with it is no being really able to see where the sphere ends.
Thanks.
Fair criticism too. I noticed it, but couldn't think of an easy way to fix it. The sound of the sandstorm is a lot more muted in the bubble than out, but there's no clear visual queue.
Hey Magister Ludorum ~ This is one of the prettiest game I've played throughout the jam so far! Good job on that. And all that with a completely smooth framerate!
The game is more on the challenging side which I like, it's a little unfortunate that there is no recovery mechanic though. If you miss a pyramid you can't make up for it and since the health recovery is taking some time it feels a bit frustrating if you know you can't collect a pyramid that would otherwise be in reach.
It's a cool idea with a very pretty execution! Good job :)
Thanks for playing and the feedback!
Definitely good points that need to be smoothed out if I decide to continue developing it. Cheers!
I have no clue how you managed to make such a beautifully looking game with the limited shapes, incredible job! Gameplay is fun too, especially that it is quite challenging (atleast for me).
For the sound tho, the sound for the ray that is cast on the pyramid had the equivalent effect on me as putting chalk across a schoolboard. The 'whoosh' sound made up for it though!
Also, I only ever managed to survive with 8 pyramids collected, but I must have missed 2 and the shield-circle, after I had missed the two pyramids, went into a desert without anything there. I think this goes on endlessly so the game does not end.
Probably the best visuals out of any of the games!
Hey, thanks a bunch for playing and the feedback. Much appreciated!
Spot on about the sounds, I was simply out of time to polish them. They definitely need some more love. Volumes are all over the place too.
Good point about the missing end. I presumed you would exit the bubble after a while and die to the sandstorm, but I guess you can just keep following the bubble and be safe in the empty desert forever :D
I probably should remove the bubble after you get too far behind the last pyramid. Death guaranteed, haha
Cheers!
