How does your game fit the theme?
The given space the player can move around is also their hitpoints

Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
The space getting smaller is probably also used by the other games in this jam so there is a secondary gimmick based on pentagons to make the game be more unique.

A very polished game! My best time was 1:31 haha, I think that’s not bad at all, right?

The shooting patterns are really well-executed. They’re challenging but not frustrating, striking the right balance. This is great because it keeps you engaged the whole time.

I challenged myself to use the default game controls, and wow, that really makes things harder. But I have to admit, it was a brilliant move to even use the keys as a way to form a pentagon. The unfamiliarity with this mechanic led me to a time of about 0:31, which I consider quite an achievement.

I’m not sure if it was just me or if others experienced this too, but when I lost, I got stuck for a bit not knowing how to reset and start again. As I said, maybe it was just me not paying attention, but I tried pressing several buttons and couldn’t get it to work. After a few failed attempts, I figured out how it worked.

The visuals are flawless. The shooting and the player’s movement are really pleasing to watch and aesthetically beautiful. You nailed it in this aspect as well, everything is in harmony and has enough contrast to remain clear. The sound effects were also a nice touch because they really convey the impact of each action, especially when you lose.

Overall, a great game. Congratulations on it and best of luck with the jam!

The visuals of the tutorial and everything were really lovely! I also liked the choice of menu and how you put the buttons. How you can adjust the volume. I had too much of a hard time playing the game with azerty keyboard with both button combinations. I understand that's made to be difficult on purpose but I really couldn't get the hang of it. 😅 I call skill issue. It was entertaining to try, try again and keep trying, so it's certainly a tad addicting!

other keyboard layouts didnt really crossed my mind when designing the input for this game not sure how i couldve fixed it without adding a control remap option. Also arrow keys should work if you turned on the WASD Option.

Submitted(+1)

Ooooooh! You're right! Arrow keys DO work, so your game DOES work well on other keyboards! I even tippled my time alive. In that case you don't have a flaw, CavoX5! You might not have had other keyboard layouts in mind, but you DID make it accessible for other keyboard! ^^

I'm not a coder myself, but I do watch a lot of gamedev coder on Twitch. They say to never hard code keys using 'Input.GetKey(KeyCode.W)' and instead using 'Input.GetAxis("Vertical") > 0' and 'Input.GetAxis("Horizontal")' or making an action map.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and letting me know, I clearly missed that. It made it a lot less complicated to play the game. I really appreciate it!

At first I wasn't too entertained. The movement felt a bit gimmicky and the first attack was a bit boring. I thought it would just be that attack forever, but boy was I wrong. The various unique attack patterns were pretty darn cool. I especially liked the spinning part with the wall in the middle with occasional holes. I also started really liking the challenge that the unconventional control scheme provided, even preferring to stick with it when I found out you could switch to WASD in the settings. The visuals are very nice as well. The shares were worked in so naturally that you wouldn't even suspect the game was made with that limit in mind. Overall, solid game.

A polished and stylish entry that combines smooth visuals, fitting audio, and a strong interpretation of the theme into a very engaging experience.A really good game you created! This is what I thought regarding the different categories:

Game play / Fun / Engagement ●●●●●
The game play is smooth and enjoyable. I really like how much is happening on screen, but still it feels balanced. It keeps you alert and engaged. While it would be nice if there were more mechanics than just avoiding hits or staying in the green area, this is a minor issue. Overall, the experience feels complete and fun, so it still earns a full 5/5.

Art Style / Visuals ●●●●●
The art style is fgreat. The shapes are used very well, and the UI looks beautiful and functional, which is not easy to achieve in a jam game! I love the animations here. Everything feels cohesive and polished. A strong 5/5.

Audio / Sound Design ●●●●●
Music and SFX fit perfectly. I especially liked the detail where the music stops during restart/menu and “breaks” when you die. This adds a lot of atmosphere and polish. Definitely 5/5.

Theme ●●●●●
The limited space theme is implemented well. You’re already restricted in movement, and when you get hit, the space becomes even tighter, increasing the pressure. A very clever and well-executed take on the theme. Full 5/5.

Broooo! This game is amazing. You cooked well. I think my only complaint is the controls, it is strange and hard to get used by. I think a control option to use mouse drag would be nice. The idea is hold click the mouse and drag to one of 5 directions to move. This can be good in mobile as well by using joystick.

Hey CavoX5 ~ That's a pretty creative game! good job.

I liked the visuals, the variety of attacks, the way you implemented "hitpoints" by shrinking the space. It's a simple idea but that works very well on many different layers. With sojme polish I could totally see this being a full on game experience.

My biggest gripe with the game are the controls. I have a german layout so the Z button is where the Y is and vice versa which makes the controls incredibly unintuitive. With W/A/S/D it worked a lot better.

All in all good job!

Cool idea to make the controls pentagon shaped to match the limited shapes theme! It was pretty fun to use after I got used to the controls. The graphics had great style and the music choice was great fit as well. I wish there were a few more sound effects for when you get hit or when you grow the circle. Overall, nice job!

I really loved the game... after I switched to wsad :)

This is a plus btw- having different options, so that players can play the game in the way they enjoy!

Other than that- this is what this jam is about. You used the theme the way it should be- the limitation is obvious, and it affects the gameplay. Also- it changes, and you can make the space less limited, if you are willing to risk it, and try to stay in the circle! Really cool.

Other than that- all elements of the game are really well made. The music track fits the game perfectly, the graphics are instantly readable, which is what they should be in a fast paced game like that! The controls are precise, the patterns challenging, but not unfair.

Only thing is- I can't tell if the game has an ending, or is it an endless game. My best time is 3.14 so far!

Over all- that's a grat game! Keep it up!

The game seem broken to me and can not find seeing. The graphic are nice

Developer

Can you elaborate on what you found that is broken?

great game !!the awdzx control made me confuse at first .. but I think the unique controls is a nice idea ...

the music is good , the visuals are great  and it fet well in the theme

love it

This game, looks, sounds and plays great. I have to admit that the original controls broke my mind a little and I managed only over a minute-ish tops. I switched to WASD and it was much more enjoyable and I managed almost 4 minutes. It gets pretty crazy and I like how every run seems to randomize the enemies.

The shrinking play area is something I also explored but decided against as I also anticipated other participants to explore. It still works great in the game and within the theme.

I would only suggest adding a leaderboard :)

I didn’t quite understand how the controls work, even with no gimmicks. On the one hand - like expected, but then something else affects the movement? The space is clearly limited, but again, I couldn’t understand exactly how. I am pretty bad at survival games, so lots of that is my fault, I’m sure. The style is great, minimal, yet sophisticated; very consistent.

Developer

There shouldnt be something else affecting your movement other than your inputs could you elaborate on the issues you were facing?

I played more and noticed that when I’m hit, my pentagon shifts slightly.

Mmmm yeah this is one of my favourites in the jam. The polish is off the charts here, colour scheme is great - though be aware that the game is very difficult for people with deuteranopia, which is quite common (8% of men!) you can use coblis to check:

It's a very minor bit of feedback, though. Just something to be aware of if your game relies strongly on colour :) the bright spots help, but I think not quite enough.

Beyond that nitpick, everything works so well together! The control scheme is difficult to get the hang of but the novelty of it really does not dissipate because the content is designed so well around it. Great job!

Developer

I dont quite see the problem, from the screenshot you provided I could still very much distinguish the player from the projectiles.

But I'll keep in mind to have my games be more accessible to colorblindess in the future!

This game is fr the best one by far for me. it was so fun and the music made it even more so. it was like geometry dash meets worlds hardest game haha. its super polished, and i loved all the boss attacks. i made it to around 4 minutes but was unfortunately knocked out by the rings that have only 1 gap, i would have to leave the space to dodge that so not possible! i liked that the keys were in pentagonal directions, but i couldnt get used to it so thank you for the wasd option! gg

nice and creative idea

This is so super polished! Would have loved this back in school during computer lab sessions. The actual WAZXD controls are super hard to survive, but make it super unique!

The theme and limited shpaes constraint are also properly met!

Nice game, super challenging. The z and x input make it pretty tough. My high score was 1:17. Great job!

Developer

If you are finding the movement too confusing it could be changed to WASD in the options (top left).

I saw that, but I think the built in controls make it unique
