Love the theme interpretation using a Ferris Wheel! You've got a good start with the looping mechanics which includes the turn and skipping system. The variety of effects from the animals rewards careful planning and optimization. If you could add some sort of reward/penalty system, then it would really take it up a notch. Hope to see you continue developing it because it great potential! Great job!

After giving it a second thought, I realized how enjoyable this game really is. Sure there might be some slight balancing issues with some of the animals, but it's very solid all around and gets very satisfying to see all your scores spiral out of control as you create more synergies between the different animals you board. Crazy fun concept and utilizes the looping theme in a very creative way! Presentation is also very cute and very clean.

Developer(+1)

Wow! Thanks for the awesome review and thanks for playing it on stream the other day! You figured things out so fast compared to other people I have watched

Really enjoyed your game as well! Nice work!

We fellow ferris wheel devs got a stick together! Your game was the cutest thing. I loved the win and lose states 😄

Submitted(+1)

took me a sec to get the hang of the ruleset but i locked in and wouldn't give up, after all i couldn't let all my new animal friends down....

I saw an earlier comment - there is value after you reach your score, which is building up a pig/chicken/goat to help you later. This game was way too fun for me, but I kinda broke it:

I used a skunk to get a hologram pig negative, so the pig had like negative a million points which basically means I could spam end turn and win :)... until my hologram pig broke the integer limit and decided to score positive which made me lose :(

The gameplay loop is really close to Balatro with the strategy + randomness every run, which is why I played so much.

PS - I found this game through Post Jam Productions :)

Developer (1 edit)

LOL that's amazing!

I did not play test nearly enough during the jam, and so I didn't realize just how easy it is to break the game. I made the final few rounds scale up really quick thinking that no one would beat it. But I played a bunch more after the jam deadline and realize that I can pretty consistently get an integer overflow to happen lol

The negative skunk strategy is something I had not thought of though! Very cool and really appreciate you taking the time to figure that out

I'll be sure to checkout your game today as well! Glad I join the Post Jam Productions discord :)

Thanks for wanting to play my game! You can definitely expand your game into a full one if you wanted to because of it's potential: adding a shop, upgrading animals, upgrading carriages, adding overall boosts like vouchers, stuff like that. Just nerf negative scoring :)

Developer

Thank you! And for sure haha

I think it might have potential for a full game, but it will be really difficult to balance and get the mechanics right

Submitted(+1)

Love how cute it is and the complexity that you were able to achieve from the simple set of rules. Hats off to you, fellow wherris feel game maker!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Glad you checked it out

Really enjoyed your game as well! Cool to see a completely different take on a ferris wheel game

I have to say, it was pretty fun, but it feels like it lacks in a really important aspect of its genre. Doing well doesn't really seem to reward you all that much - as long as you get over the limit, you pass. There's no upgrades you can do or anything else you get for the points you have over the minimum. It means that it doesn't matter whether you get 460 or 860 points if the quota was 450 - you get the same result. The game can still be satisfying, but I really wish that going over the required value rewarded you in some way, as it feels like such an important aspect that was overlooked. Consider working on this further though, it feels like it could have potential since the strategies possible to pull off can be quite fun. With upgrades and a bit more polish, it would probably end up being a pretty decent game!

Developer

Yeah the gameplay is lacking in some areas for sure. I spent more time focusing on polish this jam

The original idea was more of a roguelike deckbuilder like Balatro. Instead of a random queue of animals, you'd have a "deck" that is your queue. You'd be rewarded for doing better like you said and have a shop where you can upgrade your deck

Appreciate your review and glad you enjoyed it!

This was so so good! You did amazing, the animals were incredibly cute, the combos were really good, and you kept adding more unique animals as the game went on. I absolutely loved it! Super polished and smooth!

Developer

Thank you so much!! Was really cool getting to watch you play on stream!

Just checked out your game and it is incredible! Super polished and the hamster voice acting won me over for sure

It was really fun, challenging & cute at the same time. I need to really think and strategize about animal placement and which animal to place where. The art style is simple but interesting and cute and really suits very well to the game. Loved it. Great work!!

Submitted(+1)

Your game is really fun and you've captured the theme in the best way I've seen so far.

I like the simplicity of the game and the lack of any bugs.

I hope the game is updated after the gamejame.

I have a great idea for it.

For example, add animals that multiply your score.

For example, the bear multiplies your score by 3, but each spin subtracts 15 from your score.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it and did not see any of the bugs lol

I'm thinking of playing around with the mechanics after the jam... And I really like your idea! An effect that multiplies your total points when the animal unloads would be really interesting. Might be tough to balance, but I think that adds a lot of extra strategy

Really enjoyed Last Ouroboros as well! Nice work!

Your game is like my entry but way more beautiful and with better mechanics and difficulty curve xD

It was very fun playing it, the only thing I don't like that much is the fact that you need to remove all animals off the wheel before the end of the day. The player needs to plan ahead everything in advance because of that, maybe it would have been better if the "Rotate 2" and "Rotate 3" buttons use only 1 "action" so the player can adjust during the run and not plan everything from the beginning.

That's my opinion but overall it's a very nice entry and I really liked it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Would not say my mechanics are better though haha

I do really like how your game auto-unloads everyone at the end of the round. I think that makes the game a lot more approachable. And someone else had the suggestion to make all the rotate buttons cost the same. I think I agree on that one too. I also really liked the tags you had on the center of the wheel that would trigger when carts go by.

Thanks for checking out my game! I'm curious if this idea has potential for a Balatro like game...

Submitted

I think it has potential, but balancing will be hard to get it right

I will not work on mine anymore, but if you continue to work on yours I'll be curious and I'd love to follow your progress!

Submitted(+1)

This is such a cool little game! Very unique and creative, I love the premise, and there's some good strategies about what animals to load when, or how to rotate the wheel with them on it. The art and sounds are very good for a jam game too. I also really liked the rare "holographic" animals, that was a lovely touch.

Submitted(+1)

Probably the best game I've played. Super well polished and has so much strategy. I would come back to this game to play it again. Best score I got was 37,000. Very well done.

Developer

Wow! Thanks for the kind review and thanks for posting your score! Did not expect anyone to make it that far. You were close to running out of rounds and breaking the game lol

Really enjoyed your game as well! Nice work!

Submitted(+1)

super polished visuals here! there's a lot to pick up mechanically but after one go around it starts to make sense

personally i'd like to be able to restart the same day after failing instead of having to play through the easier days again

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I know the gameplay is a bit overwhelming but glad you picked up on it

I agree with your suggestion. In hindsight, I wish I had done a handful of hand-crafted levels instead of the endless rounds. Could have eased the player into the gameplay and made it feel more like a puzzle game

Thanks for checking it out! Will give your game a look today too

Submitted(+1)

Cute! Tho good to know, im not fit as wheel operator... got fired 5 times in a row lol

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And do not feel bad lol. The gameplay is tough and there isn't really an end unfortunately. If you made it to like day 5 or 6 then you did really well

Will make sure to checkout TapAway today!

Ay thx for consolation! You already did try it :D thx

Developer

Oh yeah lol. Really enjoyed your game!

Fun game, I really like the cute art and the variety of abilities on the various animals. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed it

Will make sure to check out Swope. Minesweeper roguelike sounds interesting

Submitted(+1)

This game is adorable and really creative! I really like how u incorporated the jam theme

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked the idea!

Will make sure to give your game a review today as well. It also looks really cute!

Submitted(+1)

Really like the idea of animals in a ferris wheel. Can see there' a lot of efforts put into the polish, like the cart swinging and the day slowly turning into night. There's also a lot of strategies involved in planning who to sit where and how many to rotate, which is the most enjoyable part for me.

Developer

Thanks!! I spent a lot of time playing around with shaders and lighting and other polish

Awesome to hear you enjoyed the gameplay as well and were able to indentify some strategies.

Will make sure to checkout ChronoBots today

Very cool idea !

At first i was a bit lost on strategy but it clicked and i enjoyed the thinking needed !

Adding relics and other animals, maybe an other theme and u got a cool ballatro style game !

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it and the strategy clicked for you!

And yeah the original idea was a deck-builder roguelike similar to Balatro. Had to trim a lot to fit it into the jam haha

Thanks for the review! Will make sure to check out ToadTrails today

Submitted(+1)

I like the logic. It's very fun to get tons of points. I personally would've made different choices for the game, like increasing the amount of turns per day, or making it so doing a multi-turn only took 1 turn from the counter. the game is still very fun, though. Good job!

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for the review!

Yeah the gameplay probably needs some major adjustments. I think making the multi-turns cost the same as the single turn is a good idea! From what I can tell, single turns seem to be best most of the time

I'm reviewing games in a little bit. I'll be sure to check yours out!
