End life plan
OK, let's be honest. This is jam game and I will probably abandon it when the jam ends. This means that Sumitter is going to end its support on Saturday, August 2 for bug fixing, updates and new content.

The Stop Killing Games movement proposes 2 solutions for this. I'll take the second: becoming the game open-source under the MIT license. This allows people to make mods of the game or more content if they really want to by making a fork of the project and publishing it freely (though I doubt someone would really do that lol).

The game will always be downloadable from itch.io. If itch.io goes away, someone else that has downloaded the game (or even me) could distribute it through other source. If necessary, they could even make a new build with the source files.

Transparency note
All the code for this project has been human-written EXCEPT FOR THIS SINGLE LINE OF CODE because I got too lazy to search it on Google and instead asked it to ChatGPT (I shouldn't have done that ;-;)

rb.AddForce(UnityEngine.Random.insideUnitCircle.normalized * UnityEngine.Random.Range(5f, 15f), ForceMode2D.Impulse);

The date of creation of this project was 3 days after the game jam started, and therefore, all of the code was made during the jam, except for reused parts of code from other projects of mine linked here (all links refer to github):

- Follower Mode of CharacterController2D.cs is an adapted version of NPCController.cs from the repository "Unityrune" made by XariusExcl.
- Simulated Mode, the GetMovement() and UpdateAnim() functions, and Debug Flying feature from CharacterController2D.cs are based of PlayerMovement.cs and NPCBrain.cs of my repository "tkrpg-files".
- The scripts WaterCollectable.cs and Grab.cs are a shortened and modified version of Bomb.cs and (also) Grab.cs of my repository "multigun_game".
- All the ChromaKey related materials and shader graphs were originally made for a previous game called "Black-Friday", also in my repositories.
- Finally, the Error.png file has been borrowed also from my "tkrpg-files" repo.

There were also entire assets I didn't made at all, but were licensed under the Creative Commons 0, Attribution 4 and other licenses.

// SCRIPTS & ASSETS

- The SpringPref.prefab, WaterSpring.cs, and WaterShapeController.cs are files from the repository "Water2D-Unity" by MemoryLeakHub
- The asset "DOTween" by Demigiant from the Unity Asset Store has been used in this project.
- The asset "PlayerPrefsEditor" by Sabresaurus Ltd from the Unity Asset Store has been used in this project.

Very nice presentation! The intro especially looked amazing. Levels are pretty detailed both in scope and collectables. As others have mentioned movement is a bit buggy, but for me at least it was fun to float around with my glacier surfboard haha

Well done!

Developer(+1)

haha! thank you for playing and for the review just before the end of the jam :-).

Submitted(+1)

right on time! hehe i wanted to check it out earlier but it’s been a busy week :(

it was worth the wait though, i had fun :)

Submitted(+1)

really liked the game, the story is sad, the minimalist style is cool :)

Developer

thanks for playing :) and for the nice feedback on the art ^^

Submitted(+1)

I loved the game! I really liked the graphics, music, and overall style! I think the movement physics in the water can bug out a bit in some parts, and I found a trick where if you hold the "D" key and the right arrow key at the same time, the player moves without gravity. I loved how you made the menu, the overall game design, and the cutscenes/dialogues. I’d love to see the game developed further!

Developer

thanks for trying the game 😄! thanks for your nice feedback on the game’s style, it means a lot :). again, i have no idea what causes the Arrow Keys to make you lose gravity, as they’re even binded together with the WASD keys in Unity’s Input System, meaning that they should do exactly the same, but they do not.

(EDIT: while writing this, a thought came up to me and i found where the bug is probably caused. no wonder i didn’t know where the bug came from, because it was from the asset i used for making the water. turns out it was an additional character controller for a demo of the asset, but the water script required it on gameobjects for some reason, and i just included it on the player without knowing what it did. oops! gonna be more careful next time!)

sadly, i don’t really plan on continuing the game, at least not anytime soon. but it’s true that the game’s scope have been reduced significantly. maybe a remake of the game with all of its intented scope (and actual time to make it) might not be a bad idea! good luck on the jam!

I like the music, it’s fun! Overall the sound design is pretty nice. A little on the buggy side and I mostly just floated around, but hey, sometimes that’s the appeal! Nice work!

Developer

haha thanks ^^! it had been a while since i touched FL Studio, the app i use for making music, and i was scared i wouldn’t be able to make a decent song, specially for the intro. both tracks of the intro and gameplay are extremely simple, accounting only one instrument (excluding beats) with a bit (or a lot xd) of reverb to make it nicer.

but it seems that even the most simplest things, if done right, can truly be perfect for the kind of thing you’re trying to make. this can apply to the style and art of the game too! (not the gameplay mechanics tho 👀 those are definitely a bit buggy xd)

i’m glad you enjoyed the game and the sound design, as it’s something people don’t usually look up on :). cheers!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the choice of music and sound effects :D

Developer

hey, thanks for playing ;D! i actually made the music myself to make it fit with the game’s theme, style and story (although there are only 2 xd – i didn’t have time to make another one) i also made some of the sound effects, like healing and damage taken, bc i couldn’t find one that fitted my game that well (i really care about these kinds of things when making games). for more complex sounds, like the caravan motor, i found on freesound.org.

It looks like a fun idea but unfortunately I got stuck in the ground on the first level every time I got there. Over all cool idea but it definitely needs more work.

Developer (1 edit)

oh no ground no-clipping D: that was an issue that was present since the start of the project, but a problem i didn’t know how to fix.

FOR ANYONE HAVING THIS ISSUE: before touching the ground, back up a little into the water and press W to launch yourself up while going to the right to jump over the shore. this is kind of another bug, but whatever. it’s a feature now B)

if you need a visual demostration of this, i also covered this exact same issue on the Game Playthrough yt video i have linked in the description. for anyone having issues like this, check out the video.

thanks for playing :)!

So good visuals. Great work!

Developer

thank you :D

Submitted(+2)

As someone wrote before me, the physics feel kinda buggy, but that might the web version fault. I really liked the visuals. Great work!

Developer(+1)

trust me it’s not the web build’s fault XD my main script for the character seemed to interfere a bit with Unity’s physics, and made things like his gravity and the way the character controls himself in water feel off, and thus buggy. but still, thanks for trying out the game! and for complimenting the art :). good luck in the jam! :D

Submitted(+1)

The intro caught me by surprise, it's really well directed and brings a unique sense of aesthetics, which is something that runs throughout the game, I love the visuals. But as you may already know, there are a lot of bugs and poor polishing, which unfortunately made my gameplay less fun. Above that, it has great potential! Thanks for the game.

Developer

hey, thanks to you for playing and your feedback! it’s cool you thought the intro was well made, because the story and style of your game Décapita really impressed me as well. cheers! on the final day i feel like i prioritized making more levels rather than playtesting, fixing and polishing my game, huge mistake on my end. but i’m glad you still liked it and tried it 🙂.

Submitted(+1)

This game looks cool with decent gameplay and an interesting take on the jam's theme. However, there are some issues: the web version of the game is buggy, and the physics are a bit inconsistent. Still, it was quite an enjoyable experience!

Developer

curse you unity webgl and physics xd i mean – thanks for playing and commenting 😄

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely loved the intro! Felt like playing Celeste all over again ;) great game, physics were a bit weird but honestly with more time it's nothing that can't be fixed, great game! Also discovered the infinite fly upwards glitch instantly, and even then I hit the first spike haha

Developer(+1)

yeaaaaaaaaaah!! the game was very inspired Celeste :-). in fact, i finished it a few weeks ago, and i guess it got me inspired to make a mountain-themed platformer. thanks so much for playing ^^.

Lo de la piedra roja del principio ha sido gracioso debo admitirlo, tampoco esperaba que la mamá literalmente viviera en la cima jsjsj
Pero como me hicieron renegar las barritas (?)

Developer

jajajas gracias por jugarlo :D.

A player doesn't jump but flies

Good game :)

Developer

lol that’s actually a good motto for the game xd thx for playing!!:D

Submitted(+1)

I felt really immersed playing this, well done man, big like!

Developer(+1)

great to hear! thanks for checking out the game! ;)

Submitted(+1)

Okay, I haven't even started the game for real while I'm writing this opening bit. I just wanna say that I really really enjoy the intro. SO much charm in it, the music revealing the title, stumbling over itself, and finally doing it for real. LOVE that.

I dig that the sound effects are tuned to fit the music (which also bangs, until it disappears).
I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but I could kinda fly around without limits near the beginning of the game? The platforming in general felt pretty off to me. But goddamn that intro, insanely well done!

Developer(+1)

haha i’m getting a lot of compliments about the intro :) (!). it was actually the first thing i ever done in the project, and it basically established the whole art style, music and story it was going to get, with a lot of expectation! it hurted when i had to reduce the scope because originally, there were going to be much more cutscenes like this.

i guess that by flying you can refer to launching yourself with the water, which is fine i think, or you could also refer to the little bug i have with the arrow key that literally disables gravity on yourself enabling you to fly… oops. the script of the character is kind of a mess and it feels off at times, but hey i tried my best. still glad you liked the game tho! thanks for your awesome support! :D

Submitted(+1)

I had a lot of fun playing this game! The art style was simple and fantastic! I made good use of the flying glitch in some parts of the game and I love the complex physics that you have going on! Great job with this game! Sadly the game crashed for me when I went to knock on the house.

Developer

wow! apart from managing to get all the way up to the end, you also managed to find a CRASH? that’s unexpected. i have no idea why that happened sorry. after that a special cutscene with the credits was supposed to play.

PS: just checked the builds. it seems to be YET ANOTHER WebGL-specific bug. thanks for reporting! I’ll fix it when the jam ends and thx for playing till the end!

Submitted(+1)

Very good opening scene and dialogs, absolutely liked your graphics and animations !!

Developer

thanks for playing! :D

Submitted(+1)

The art style and story presentation are immaculate! I also love that everything is synced with the music, that’s a lovely little touch.

One thing I noticed is that I can hold up arrow to fly up forever and cheese the game.

Developer

thanks for trying out the game again! and glad you liked the art style :).

tbh i have like no idea what’s causing the UP arrow key to make you flying, but I’ll keep investigating. thx for reporting!

Submitted(+1)

First off, I got to say, I loved the title sequence. The dialogue at the beginning was such a addition to get the player wrapped into the story and then the main menu came and boom, I'm hooked. The gameplay was innovated and fun. I read all your comments and resubmissions so I know you know there are some bugs that need to be worked out. These weren't an issue for me though as being able to reset the levels helped not taken away from the experience. Great game! Also, if you have the time, let me know what you think of my submission.

Developer(+1)

thanks for the incredible support! :D
