This was so much fun! I think the leveling up really fits the theme well as it was described in the video about improving. I really liked also how the enemies get stronger and I think the difficulty scaled really well. I died a couple of times in the middle when the yellow ones were swarming me and then I discovered a strategy where I would wall climb to create distance and then fire down at them. I also found the advice given by the helpers to be very useful and fun (*burp*). I think the levels were designed well too, they got big towards the end and I got lost for a bit but I was always able to find my way by seeing where I did not pick up hearts or checkpoints. It also looked really good and had good graphics. At the end I thought I would have to fight a boss but it was the ship :)

Really solid game!   I thought the shooting felt really nice, and I thought all the art looked really good too. I thought the jump was a little floaty but not too bad.      I did have one point where almost got locked out where I jumped up and then fell back down, and just as I did the barrier appeared.  After a little bit of fenagling I managed to get myself back through it though so I was able to finish the game.

One thing that does kind of break it, and I'm not if this is intentional or not, but I realized if you throw your grenade and then hit right click again, the grenades will explode immediately and you can throw more.  After I realized that and by the time they were fully upgraded and I  was throwing three at a time I could pretty much clear the screen with a couple of clicks every time.

Overall though, really  fun and atmospheric game with just a couple things to iron out. Great job!

Thanks so much for playing through the game! The jumó seems to be a common criticism so I’ll have to take another look at that. Also the falling through the barrier bug I knew about, but since you could get yourself back in I just let it be since time was short lol. And the grenade thing is intentional! There’s even a guy who lets you know the grenades are OP if you put some time into them, and remote detonation for the grenades is unlocked at lv 5, so great job getting there! (I know it doesn’t give you too much detail of what some of the upgrades do so they could feel unintentional). And the game is more of a power fantasy than an actual challenge, so the final level is definitely more of a pat on the back for doing great and a good excuse to feel cool

A fun run and shoot style game that reminds me of a lot of newgrounds games I enjoyed back in the day!

The skyrim style level-up system was a really nice touch and the other survivors were fun.

One thing I would've liked would be to feel 'slightly' lighter when jumping, it felt like I was being pulled down by gravity just a little too hard but not a big deal given the style of game.

As a technical thing, the last level lagged a bit even with no blood turned on possibly due to all the enemy spawners but game was still completable.  All in all, well done!

Thanks for playing through the game! And I’m glad the Skyrim style leveling clicked with you! I always thought that system was fun.

It seems the jumó was iffy for a lot of people so might need to lessen gravity a bit. And the lag can definitely be an issue on the last level too. I think I’ll have to rework the pathfinding a bit so you don’t have such a bottleneck there

Very fun!  Really enjoyed the level up mechanics, it was cool to see the things you use become more powerful.   I think remote grenade was a bit too powerful towards the end though XD If I were to give one point of feedback, the player's gravity felt a bit too high.  It made a few of the jumps on the final screen super annoying (granted with things like triple jump, it's a hard thing to balance as you don't want to feel too floaty either).  Game also seemed to lag a bit in the final screens, my guess is due to number of enemies.  Nothing a few grenades couldn't solve though.

Developer

Thanks so much for pulling through to the end! The lag on the final level is certainly an issue I need to address, and it seems a lot of people had issues with the jump so I’ll probably rework that a little. Remote grenades are definitely OP, but they were just too much fun so I left them in as a bit of a power fantasy wish fulfillment on the final level :)

This is an awesome game, the action was intense in areas and the upgrades fit the theme and kept getting better.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!

Very good game across the board, I'm amazed at the quality here. Also thank you for adding in the no gore mode for people like me. Honestly this platformer is amazing, I haven't played a platformer this good in a game jam in a long time, it practically matches commercial platformers in it's controls. The massive levels, the swarms, the difficulty balance, the level system (and abilities therein), it was all perfect. I concede defeat in the ranking, this is what I wish I could make. This game feels the most pleasant to play of every game I've played, and there have been some good ones too! The one problem I had is how unbelievably lagged the game became the farther I got, but it was never enough to make me stop playing. Amazing job.

Thanks so much! I’m certainly not asking you to admit defeat lol I’m actually really excited to play your game soon! I’m also really happy you got good use out of the no blood option since it took awhile to program in and I worried I was just doing it for nothing :) and the final level lag is something I hoped was just my laptop when I playtested it but every player is hitting it, so I’ll need to rework the pathfinding a bit and get it more stable. I appreciate all the kindness!

Loved it ! I'm a sucker for level ups and it was a lot of that :D
The big hive thingies were very satisfying to kill and it felt easy enough for a gamejam while being challenging, so I think difficulty was on point. My only knit picking would have been the jump input, since the game is really fast and the jump really quick, specially with the quadruple jump, W to jump made me unable to move with D while jumping, would've been nice to be able to jump with space as an alternate input.

Great game, finished it, loved it, awesome.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll certainly look into some more controls for jumping, and the spacebar feels like an obvious choice and I feel dub for not including it. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and thanks again!

Amazing job! I loved the particle effects, and the art was good. I do think the slightly lower res tileset for the levels, and then the higher res vector art for the player/enemies looked a little off, but the art was still great none the less. Very fun game, but I think it was a bit too easy, especially if you figure out that grenades don't harm the player (took me too long to figure this out). If you just spam both left and right mouse buttons at the same time you are guaranteed to win. Also, jumping with spacebar would be nice. And I did find a few bugs I thought you should know about. Sometimes, the dialogue text would appear behind the level so I couldn't read all of it (see pictures)

Also, the little blockers when you enter an area don't always work vertically. If you are sliding down a wall, you can go through those little blockers without colliding. Other than that I didn't really find anything. Very good job! Liked it a lot. And I did actually finish this one.

Developer

Thanks for playing through!! That’s solid feedback and given more time I would definitely make a few fixes. I appreciate you giving it another shot!
