Wow! I absolutely love the art and presentation here. The gameplay is a bit strange to figure out, but the fact that you took on boss fights with abnormal fighting patterns is crazy! I beat the game and really enjoyed it, especially the crazy T-rex that attacks you with his head, though it's a bit confusing since the game tells you that the head won't hurt you...but it will. Anyway, I really enjoyed this. Nice work.

Thanks! My brother will be glad to hear you loved the art. And I'm glad you found it fun! Yeah the rex's head had some problematic colliders, only the teeth were supposed to hurt you. I'm relieved you enjoyed the silliness though, I was worried the art would make it hard to tell it wasn't supposed to be serious (but the T-Rex did do a backflip, so I guess everyone probably got that to an extent). Thanks so much for playing and for such positive feedback!

This is a cool game. I think all of the art is really well done and the style is really fitting.  I wish there was a little more animation. Some tweening on the art would have been great, but even just some simple squash and stretch on the characters would make everything feel less static I    think.

I'm really glad there was an invincible mode in the menu, because I was really stumped by that mammoth fight and I probably would have given up if I couldn't have turned on invincibility to understand what was going on.  After that I beat the T-rex after 2 tries without invincibilty. I would say the biggest problem is a lack of player feedback. The first several times I   fought the mammoth I couldn't figure out if I  wasn't doing damage because I was hitting it in the wrong spot, or missing entirely, or was damaging it and it just took a lot of hits. I think a good thing to add would be some feedback that you're hitting the wrong part of the enemy. Like maybe if you hit the tusks it makes a metal clanking sound or  something to show you made contact but didn't deal damage.

I   also think a little more telegraphing on the offscreen attacks would be good. Both bosses had attacks where they just flew in from off screen without warning, so some red Xs or an arrow over where they're about to fly in from would be super helpful.

Overall,    I think  this is a really cool idea, and would definitely love to see it polished and fleshed out into a bigger project.  Great job!

Thanks for this detailed feedback, it's my favorite kind! Firstly, we're glad you liked the art. And now that you mention it, some squash and stretch really would have helped make things less static, so I'll note that.

And I'm so glad the invincibility mode kept you from giving up, that's why I made it. I've been paranoid about making a game too hard ever since Xanderjam 4, where nobody could finish my game. Thanks to you I can now officially say it's not paranoia, it's practicality.

As far as telegraphing attacks, the mammoth definitely needed it. In fact that's why the T-Rex telegraphs it's next attack by peering over where it'll later bite down at, although some more there wouldn't have hurt. I just never went back and fixed the mammoth. I completely agree that the battles needed more feedback.

At any rate, thanks again for such great suggestions, and thanks for playing!

Solid take on the theme and the art had a raw comic book feel that I liked!

The hunter wearing fur pelts after beating the mammoth and then fiery scale-like gear after beating the t-rex in the end screen was a nice visual touch.

Gameplay-wise I think it has legs but I wish either hurtboxes were a little more selective or you had an animation for when you're in invincibility frames since most of my deaths involved being in a hurtbox and being deleted.

My brother will be happy to hear you liked the art! And I'm glad you noticed the changing outfits, those were a bit of a pain to implement.

Selective hurtboxes sounds like a good idea, I definitely made a mistake to not change a few settings in that area. The biggest mistake was definitely that there were no invincibility frames. My bad.

In any case, thanks for playing and leaving feedback, it really helps me learn how to do better.

Interesting idea.  Mammoth felt a bit difficult given where it's hurt boxes were and your lack of range.  Meanwhile the T rex felt very easy in comparison.  Perhaps give the player a bit more HP and/or invincibility frames upon taking a hit, may make the mammoth fight better

Developer

That's a good point! I never even realized the mammoth was harder than the 30 foot T-rex! But it's true, especially since it'll turn around and smack you if you get behind it. Invincibility frames definitely would have helped this game, as would making the rex more difficult. In any case thanks for playing and leaving feedback!

This game looked so cool! The atmosphere really transported me to another place, I felt like I was the one out there hunting. The strategy I used was dashing into damage range, then clicking the left mouse button really fast :)

Developer(+1)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Perfect strategy too, you're truly a fearless apex predator. Thanks for the feedback!

Cool game, I feel it lacks a bit of feedback on taking damage, I would take damage and not notice, maybe making the character flash or make a hurt sound. Also it took me a while to beat the mammouth, I would not be able to dodge it's attack and it would hit me twice and I'd die right away, until I realize I could button mash  my way in and kill before it can attack.

Cool game.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you thought it was cool. That's valid criticism, because there actually was a hit effect and sound but they were clearly too subtle (the player flashed red, instead of white like most would look for, and all it did was tint his sprite red instead of properly flash).

And I'm so glad you mentioned your experience with the mammoth. If you didn't I wouldn't have finally figured out what to do about it! I should have put an invincibility timer when you get hit, so you can't be hit more than once within about half a second. I had a week to figure that out but never did, so thank you for leaving this feedback.

And thanks for playing too!

It is way too short, but the graphics were amazing which is why I am assuming that it was that short. Decent gameplay, maybe a jump would be nice even if it isn't really necessary.

Thanks! Yeah originally we wanted a lion too, but we cut it once we realized we didn't have time. Although I can't give an excuse for not beefing up the health of the finished bosses to make them take longer, I just may have underestimated the players. Thanks for leaving feedback!
