Cool game. It was cool and somewhat relatable to trade protein for "gym gains". I ended up giving up because it was unclear if there was an objective to the game, you start without any instruction and you just jump around killing stuff, so I don't know if there was a way to finish the game or not. There aircontrol was a bit lacking, stoping to press move input would not brake my movement so I would sometime have a hard time to land on a platform.

The theme was nice, I felt the "gym bro" vibe with the music and all. Nice entry.

Developer

Thank you. Yeah that landing stuff is a small fix that could help the game a lot.

Cool game! I like the ability to grow the character at the gym. It's a nice way to allow frequent and noticable upgrades to  the character! I think permadeath is a bit annoying here since I had all the proteins except one and had to start all the way over. I also wouldn't mind a button other than "enter" in order to attack. Overall those are just nitpicks though. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and your feedback. There is a bit that is needed to polish this one up.

So I'll start by saying I think the art and music in this are really good, I think the sprite art and color pallet are both nice. And I  think the idea is very fun as well. But there are a few things that kept me from really enjoying it.

From reading the comments I guess I more or less finished it, since I explored every area.  I'm not sure what happened but the workout mechanic seemed to be really bugged for me. After exercising my  arms to level 1 , I went back with more protein powder and wanted to work out arms again. However when I  did it, it switched from saying  "next level 2" to "next level 1" and my level never increased past 1. This ended up happening to all 3 stats. Then after going all the way to the right I jumped down to where the last gym was and since I couldn't level up my legs past 1, I couldn't jump out again and was trapped so that's where my playthrough ended.

Either way, some bugs aside, I think the style and attitude of this game is fun, and I think with some polishing it could definitely be turned into a great game.

Thank you for the feedback. The "next level" is like the experience points until "next level" in RPGs where it tells you how many points you need until the next level. So you need one protein for each workout, and you need one workout for level one, and two workouts for level two, so far as you described, it seems to be working as intended though not as clear as it needs to be. There are nine protein powders throughout the level, and you need all of them to max out the three muscle groups. Even without the maxed out jump, you can still get to the "end" of the level in the top right.

I agree, the game needs a lot more work.

Neat platformer beat-em-up and I like the snes aesthetic.  The take on the theme was also solid!

I would've liked a retry-button on death and just a sliightly faster build up to max speed for some of the jumps.

Developer(+1)

Thank you. I agree with you. Restart/retry would have been great, so would an ending to the level, and definitely the controls needed a lot more refinement.

A nice take on the theme.  I also really appreciate all the hard work that was put in the gym animations.  Platforming controls could have been a bit smoother and would have appreciated a way to 'retry'/respawn

Developer

Thank you.  I agree that the controls need a lot more work. That's very fair criticism and I agree with it I didn't have time to do fancy things like restart/retry or have an ending to the level because I had to do other unplanned things that ate up a few days, so I had to cut a lot of stuff out that I planned to do.

In all honesty this was frustrating for me. But I tend to get frustrated when I'm unable to finish a game. My problem was that the character kept moving whenever I let go of the move keys, usually for a distance large enough that I couldn't land a jump on the shortest platforms. Other than that I didn't like that I had to hold the spacebar to jump higher, my natural thought was always to press it then let it go.

Otherwise a pretty decent game, at least from as far as I saw. Another entirely unique take on the theme, great work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you and thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to do much other than the game play so there is not real ending other than maxing out the character I guess. The landing could use some improvement, too much sliding. The jumping could be adjusted a bit, but the press and release of the jump allows you control the height of the jump, a la Super Mario Bros.. I'm used to that kind of thing so it feels more natural to me.

Very fun! My one criticism would be to allow the player to jump up through the platforms instead of colliding with them. Very fun! I like the take on the them "fittest". The separate room for the gym is really cool instead of just having UI for it. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. I think you're right, some platforms that you can jump up through would be pretty small but great improvement.
