Cute story and enjoyable gameplay and a really adorable art style, great work!

Super fun little story-experience, I enjoyed myself quite a lot playing it! I’m impressed that you managed to really make this into a full game with story-cutscenes, a lot of polish even in the little things (like f.e. the menu or the end-scene with CU-T3 flying around) and even a final boss! I also really liked the story you told.

One thing though: If you can’t be really really sure the game is bug-free (which you can never in a Jam), include a reset-level button. It’s not too much work and especially with no way to skip the intro cutscene, it is quite annoying to sit through it all again. I had the bug that CU-T3 just went flying somewhere else while transforming into a platform.

Overall great game though, well done!

A pretty nice and enjoyable narrative driven game,

  • Although the narrative was super nice, I wish you could skip the text to make them talk faster.
  • The robot at the end stopped jumping randomly.
  • I didn't get to see the ending because after I defeated him, my jump key stopped working and I was stuck behind a button.
  • The sound design is decent, I think the audio was used well on top of everything else.
  • The platform mechanic is original, I like how CU-T3 has multiple uses, although the puzzles were too easy.
  • The amount of cutscenes you added were seriously impressive, I don't know how you did it in such a short period. Great job conveying so much with such simple cutscenes.

Overall I really liked this game, great work!

I thought the riddles were really clever, the music was really cool especially on the boss fight.
the visuals were also really good!
Keep making this stuff!

Good Game!

I love the animation, it was risky to add stoy telling (it could’ve bored the player) but it didn’t, it feels like a nice part of the game ^^ I like the idea behind it, although I need to adress 2 feedback I have on the execution :

  • Since the robots have only 2 actions, it doesn’t seems necessary to choose beetwen witch one ^^’. Just clicking the robot to tell him “do an action” / pressing a key woudl’ve been fine I think !
  • Why do we need to call back the robot for the platforms and not for the button? I’m guessing you used trigger colliders, so maybe using OnTriggerExit2D to automatically bring back the robots woul’ve feel nicer

I really love the boss battle, it adds a lot, although I must argue that it’s a bit boring to wait for it to come back in the middle. But the overall story is really nice, and the way you made it came alive is cool! I like the little animations you have, but since the floppy disk is always near the computer, why is there a need to collect it beforehand?

I really like your background with the hills in the introduction, but I must say that your game would gaine A LOT form using a not-so-squarish tilemap. here we can really see the tile and it seems a bit too much.

GG!

Thanks for your honest feedback, it's always my favourite :D

Ok let's see.

  • You are 100% right on this, the buttons seem quite useless and just a gimmick for the robot, the original idea was to have many more options for the robot, not all in context. I tought of having a way to record actions and stuff like that. Obviously that was way overscoped for me since I wanted to make a short story too and i ended up not doing that, but since i didn't have much time left, i tought to leave the button and platform buttons in instead of reworking them from scratch. But if I keep working on this, I'll rework all of that from the ground up and either give the robot more interesting commands or changing how it works all together. (One idea is to unlock multiple robots to swap to when you rescue them, with different actions, but that's just an idea for now lol)

  • This is a REALLY nice idea, I didn't think of that at all. Not only it makes more sense, but it will solve some things that i dont like (like blocking you from going ahead if you don't reacall the robot back). I do use trigger colliders for the context actions yes, and i will probably do as you suggested and make the robot come back automatically when you get out of the "platform trigger area".  Thanks!

About the boss... it's super rushed haha. I ran out of time and since i always want to submit at least 6-7 hours before the deadline (in case something goes wrong) I had to pretty much rush the last part as to not submit an incomplete project. I tought better rushed than incomplete. But I do intend on working more on it to make it more interesting. Also the idea is to make multiple "Evil Robots" to beat (think of megaman and the various levels with different bosses) and rescue all of the other little robots. But yeah not much to say about that, i agree it's a bit boring haha.

Same for the floppy disk, at first the idea was to have them scattered around multiple levels and keep track of which one you had and use the computer as a "Hub\Checkpoint" where you could save your progress and watch the cutscenes you acquired. Wanted to make some floppy disks harder to get maybe, with more bits of story, sort of collectables. But again, the time ran out and instead i decided to just place them near the computer. Fun thing is, picking up the floppy disk isn't even required to start the cutscene on the computer, basically they're there because the first one gives you a little text telling you what it is. But if i end up working on this more, i want to place them around in hidden places and stuff like that.

Thanks for your honest feedback, i really appreciate it you have no idea how much :) I LOVE how in depth you went and your honsety! ^^

What a lovely game! I really like the mechanic of helping the robot, and the story was very well executed. The dialogue could have moved a little bit faster but that might just be me being impatient, fantastic work!

Beautiful story, very nice visuals and audio and entertaining gameplay! The only bugs that i found are:
you can jump after leaving the ground and cross gaps that should be crossed with help of the robot which kidna breakes the game unless you come back, and my robot friend for some reason just flew away out of the map in the middle of the boss fight. Besides that, great game! Really well designed and made.

looooved this lil guy, cu-t3 is too precious

really solid execution of a story game aswell which you really never see in game jams

The story is awesome!!! CU-T3 is so cut3 and I felt so bad when I saw the cutscenes :'((( my heart!!

I got a really funny bug during the boss fight, I died and at the same time the boss died, it opened the door and I could go and save D3-4R while being invisible.

The boss fight was a bit tricky, and I wish there was a way to skip the cutscene at the start once you've seen it.

Loved it!!!

Edit: I love all the little animations CU-T3 does, like falling asleep or flying down from the sky at the beginnning

Thanks!!! Haha now that you mention the boss bug, i can see why it happens, thanks for reporting it i'll fix it right away! Thanks for your kind words :) it really makes me happy.

Also yeah I'll add a way to skip the cutscene as one of the first thing after the jam, I can see how it can be a bit of a chore especially if the game bugs out and you  have to restart (as it appears to happen sometime)

I really hope you continue with CU-T3! I will 100% play a post-jam updated version if it comes out :D

Awesome. I liked the story and the visuals the most, but it's an overall well done game. Keep it up! :)

This was a surprisingly deep game -i loved it and i loved it's message at the end.  I really enjoyed this, start to finish, everything about it.  Fantastic cutscenes, good graphics, good puzzles, character and depth was excellent.  Easily one of my favorites in this jam -amazing work! :D

Thank you!!!

A cutscene? In a short jam? Nice... Wish there was a skip button since i had to restart the game:
i got softlocked towards the start, the first time you cut3 turns into a platform. Got both to the other side, then started to jump towards the pit, and cute just dives in. He then respawns to the left, and immediately keeps running straight to the pit repeatedly. Couldn't press the button despite many attempts, is it disabled when he moves? Idk.
there's other cases where you loose progress in general if you don't pay attention to what you're doing

Is there a range check/raycast to allow pressing on Cute? I'd remove that for consistency

CUT3 gets sometimes behind the player, making him more difficult to click, and since CUT3 follows the player... this isn't rare.

Bossfight has issues: 1 out of 2 presses of the button does nothing, and in general you can't tell where the saws appear until you've tried it enough times

Great use of the theme

cute / 10

Developer (1 edit)

Ah great point, yes the buttons are based on context nearby cu-t3, so if he's too far from the button\platform spot, the context menu won't show the respective button. So it is very possible that you soft locked like that. I'll have to look into that and i'll probably rewrite how the commands menu works, since most of the interactions are hard coded due to me running out of time in the jam and having to do everything by myself. Thanks for your feedback and bug report, really appreciate it, i'm gonna look into it for a post jam update! :D

edit: oh also about the boss, yes it's very rushed haha, it's not very clear and even knowing where the sawblades appear, sometime is not easy to activate them at the right moment because you miscalculate their positions. So I might add some particles where the sawblade should appear, so at least you know where they are

This game is amazing! I like the simple controls! You understand what you can do and there is a lot of variety! Also the cutscenes are amazing!
