I think this would be really cool as a local multiplayer game, but I think as a singleplayer experience it's really hard. I had a hard time grasping the controls.

The music was great though, and the graphics had a really cool aesthetic I haven't seen before. The level editor, and especially the online leaderboards are really impressive features.

Really great work on this one, I'm stoked to see where this goes next.

As singleplayer, this game is super hard. The concept is very different from everything else and interesting. The particles could have come way slower at the learning phase of the game so that reacting in time for a beginner would be sufficient(maybe you could add some easier and slow music). Other than that, the game feels completed and polished. the visuals are simple and fitting. Moreover I am amazed you could put a level editor in this short amount of time. Great job!

Very fun, I acutally got like hanged and wanted to be able to finish a song, but I just realized my coordination is really horrible. But it's a clever a game and I really enjoyed. If this was the car eye coordination exam I would use the public transporation. Congrats!

Visuals are good, the effect combining the two waveforms into one color looked and felt smooth. A leaderboard! Some anon made it way up there as of writing this. I could just be bad at it but this game is hard right out of the gate. A lot of mechanics to get down pat before I can really get a good score and that first bit is super tough, but it's something I'd wanna get better at. Congrats on the submission and hope you keep developing it some down the road

Cool concept, but it very difficult from the beginning. I think the first level should be much easier, because it was really hard to get into the controls when everything was going so fast. I like the visuals and it's cool that you made a level editor for a game jam game.

I really like this game idea as a super huge rhythm fan, but I do have quite a bit of critique for you guys as you continue to work on this.

Player Feedback - Make sure that when the player catches the note the have much more feedback so they actually can tell if they have caught a note or not. I find myself on the fence on whether I'm catching notes or not, and that feedback is really a core part of rhythm games and critical to making them fun and engaging.

Visuals - Make sure the visuals are easy to follow. I like the simple style but I think with slightly different colors it could be even easier to follow. I think the notes dropped much too quickly at the start of the game. I would suggest having it start slower and working towards a larger speed. Maybe have a slow and fast gravity property, and have when a note appears it be in slow gravity mode, and then drop in fast. So with this explanation, I'm saying that the fast gravity needs to be slower.

Wave Crossover and the Clap Attack - This is really tricky for me, because I like these mechanics, but every time I try to cross over the waves and then move them together to catch the small purple ones, I literally always accidentally activate the clap ability, and then it takes way too long to recover after this. I would maybe have the clap not have such a cool down, and make the overlap between the waves more forgiving, that way the player has control between the two and it doesn't become a rage rhythm game. (If my understanding of these mechanics and how they work is incorrect, then I wasn't able to follow the tutorial and understand how they work)

Overall I really like the idea! I want to make it clear that I mean this review in a critiquing way to help you in your process of working on this more, and not as a way to bite at the bad things about your game. I would definitely take a look into these polish elements though as they made it hard for me to play through and enjoy to it's full potential. But thank you for delving head on into rhythm games for this jam!

Thanks for the detailed criticism! It really helps to get honest feedback like this, and we're definitely aware that our game still needs some polish after our mad scramble to finish it in time.

I think your comment about potentially misunderstanding how the wave crossover mechanic works may be right, as the only purpose of crossing the waves is meant to be the 'clap' mechanic. The small purple notes can be caught by either wave regardless of colour; the waves don't need to be put together to catch them. That being said, it's pretty easy to see why you'd make that mistake, given the way the other small notes are colour-coded. We definitely should have made this more clear to the player by either choosing a different colour for the normal notes, or else having a message in the tutorial clarifying that the small purple notes ignore wave colour.

I'm glad the criticism was helpful! Yeah maybe having a more generic representative color, like white, could have helped. That also would have helped for accessibility as making a white note would contrast well against everything regardless of hue.

Great idea and implemented well. Really captures the In a Song diversifier. Personally, I could have done with a less noisy/colorful interface. The notes are very small, if they had a bit of a trail that would make it easier to follow them visually.

I really liked the wave visuals and the mechanic of merging and swapping. The overall sound and effects work great. My one suggestion would be in the beginning levels to not just have the note drop so suddenly. It would have helped maybe to build skill with the control by having some slower drops to start to get used to. Overall really fun effects, sounds, and visuals. I will try to check out the song editor which is a nice touch.
