Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
For my game, I wanted players to feel a sense of connection to community and environment, and so made it about talking to characters, giving to people in need, navigating situations where the person you are trying to help may not have the best intentions, and fighting for a common goal.
For generosity, the main aspect I wanted to focus on was the generosity involved in forming and maintaining social relationships -- giving people the benefit of the doubt, spending your time and energy on listening to their stories and contributing to those conversations giving a piece of yourself in the process. And in a greater sense building community because building a community requires the collective generosity of each individual so that everyone may give and receive.

I got excited that we would go to the ruins and found more about how to end Dia but I got the end screen :( I'm sorry you didn't have time to finish it. Regardless my excitement shows that this is a potential story to expand in the future in this setting or a different one.
Gameplay: I also got the ui bug and I got confused if I actually got ambushed or helped. It's great that actually you have to be careful of what people to trust and help. Another thing that might be nice is to use the right click mouse to choose an answer rather that push enter. Or if just use E for both choosing and moving the dialogue forward. I was always trying to find which key to press. (This is just for user experience)
Very nice job!! :)
(Btw I am reading Mistborn atm, and it gave me similar vibes with the Dia being "god" etc, I don't know if it was an inspiration or just a connection I made)
The game shows great potential, the aesthetic, sound design, and overall theme are all very compelling. I especially appreciated the decision-making system with meaningful consequences, reminiscent of The Banner Saga. It’s unfortunate that you didn’t have time to fully complete the story, but what’s here already stands out. I’d be excited to revisit it if you decide to continue development. Excellent work so far!
A very unique game, beautiful. The artstyle, the mood and atmosphere, very well exectued. I enjoyed it very much. Would love to see it taken further after the jam :D
hi Jeff , Chris here -
I stand by what I said in Discord - you have a beautiful eye for aesthetics, and it is well displayed in Dia Stole the Sun. Bugs aside (that others mentioned), I'm just looking forward to what you have in store next. The UI reminds me of earlier FF games and I'm all about it. I'm a huge fan of procedural games like Slay the Spire and FTL, and coincidentally the way you structured the levels to go one by one reminds me of that with narrative branches rather than combat--and honestly that's really unique.
Great jam effort and hope to keep in touch.
Thanks Chris! You're awesome!
Funny you say it reminds you of FTL and Slay the Spire, I actually wanted to do a procedural version with randomized encounters where recruitable NPCs would somewhat randomly be good, neutral, or antagonistic making it heavily repayable. Sounds silly now considering how much I actually managed to get done xD
This is such a charming game~ The art direction reminds me a lot of old school games, it’s very nostalgic. I did run into a few bugs with the UI popping up saying my food was stolen when it wasn’t, but aside from that, this has a lot of potential and I hope you keep working on it! Fantastic work, kudos to your team!
It was just me for this jam but thanks very much :) ! Frustrating that UI bug popped up in the last hour or so, and it seems to show up for everyone that plays...
Excited to try your team's entry soon!
Oh damn, that’s incredible you made this yourself! Also felt, we ended up with a few last minute bugs in our game too that we didn’t have time to patch out. But I hope you still like it!
Ahhh it was so nice to see this complete! I really love the combination of retro style game and fantasy!! Amazing job truly!!!
wait, brock couldn't make it? this world is really worth fleshing out - i love the way you have tried to make the world-building so real by creating characters with different personalities and motivations - whatever glimpse i could get! could get a glimpse of a sense of humour as well!
(i understand you already know about the ui bug)
so charminggg; looking forward to play your complete, ambitious creation in the future; if you do feel like pursuing it. no matter what, the talent is clear!
Thanks so much for playing <3
Nooo, Brock the Rock is my favorite character xD! he's in the first level to the left, I wanted to make him a bit of a surprise because he is just a rock so I put him slightly off the beaten path. Truthfully I think most people will miss him so maybe I made the path just slightly too far off haha.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm definitely considering spending a bit more time on this project to finish it out but I guess we'll see :)
oh wow I missed mr.brock! Yess, I love the idea of accidental stumbling...but maybe a little more guidance is needed! And do give it serious consideration to pursue this - I have a feeling a lot of people would love to play the complete version!
Hope you can make more of this game. Even though it was short, I really enjoyed it. Seems like it could have potential as a full scale rpg.
Aw, I wish there was more. Nice start to the game, the world and atmosphere so far is quite nice
I enjoyed this entry! I thought the sleeping mechanic was a little clunky, and the "You were ambushed, food -5" text showed up every time I got an achievement (helping Dia follower and recruiting the other adventurer". Overall this was a fun little game
Thanks for playing!
Oof that UI bug showed up a last minute, so I didn't have time to squash it but that's how it goes haha
I know what you mean about the "sleeping" mechanic, lots of little polish tasks I also couldn't fit in >.<
haha that's the nature of jams, I didn't hold it against you
Really neat concept! I really like the art style of the game!
I absolutely adore your game! The art style is so charming, and I was definitely getting FF7 vibes from the UI design. Also, the size of the Knight reminds me of Steiner from FF9. I love the story telling and just learning about the lore through other characters. I also like how there are consequences for choosing not to help someone without explicitly showing you what happens but rather telling through narrative. Theres so much that can be expanded on with just the story alone so I'm really curious to see you elevate this game if you ever decide to keep working on it. Bravo!
Thanks so much for your kind comment :) definitely heavy inspiration from ff7 and ff9 is one of my all time favorites so that was nice to hear you draw that connection.
Also really glad you enjoyed the story telling. I don't know if I'll end up continuing working on the game, but I'm certainly open to the idea. Thank you so much for playing :D !!
I knew it! FF9 was my first FF experience so it's cool that you drew inspiration from that era. Looking forward to playing more of your games in the future
