Really fun platformer ! I love the retro style ! It's a bit hard for me (but I think is a skill issue for me). Good Job !

It's kinda of incredible you got this game made in 3 days. Very well done indeed.

I love all the different music tracks and the chunky sound effects. The graphics is pretty simple, but very reminiscent and true to the vibe you were going for.

The mechanics is very clever. It's not the first game I have played this jam to have used this interpretation of the pause mechanics, but yours is very well implemented, and works bug-free. Not everything is spelt out for you so it was great discovering new interactions as you play.

I love how there's different kinds of enemies and even a boss fight. The boss fight is even designed with the key mechanics in mind.

The only thing I kinda dislike was how heavy the character felt when moving. Too much inertia when starting for me. Not sure if that's how NES games usually are since I didn't grow up on them, so maybe it's a nostalgia thing, but for this game I found it a bit clunky. There's some hidden areas where I couldn't find how to access it, but it didn't hinder the game progress.

Overall this is an amazing entry though. Great job!

Thanks for playing! I'm not aware of any hidden areas in our game so it sounds like you didn't miss anything. I think saying that it feels slow or clunky is more than fair, but it was definitely an intentional design choice on our part for a couple of reasons.  Mainly it was to make it where pausing felt like the character's main strength in how they overcome the enemies.  It's a tricky balance for sure. It was also a slight nod to the old school games where the characters tend to feel a bit cumbersome.

I appreciate you providing your thoughts and comments. Very helpful feedback!

It was a great experience, glad I played it!

On the hidden areas thing, on the very first level there was a wall to the left, so I tried pause-jumping up there and I saw there was some characters moving on the top-left corner just outside your vision, so I assumed it was a hidden area. I couldn't get up there so I assumed I didn't got the trick to get there yet and moved on to the rest of the game. Glad I didn't miss anything, but it sure would have been very cool if there was a easter egg or something there though.

Love the retro NES style. The glitched pause is a great conceptual hook for this game jam theme, and I personally love how the double jump works as a down attack. Lots of good enemy variety, and everything felt really purposeful. Nicely done!

There is so much work done here. Really liked the visuals and sounds it really feels retro. And pause mechanic was an incredible touch. 10 out of 10!

Very good, I liked the mechanics and the NES style, rate my game too if you can.

What an adventure. Feels nostalgic and definetly feels like old arcade games in early 90s. Sound, art, gameplay and glitchy pause feature is very well done! Only issue with the game i saw is that you can't move when you double jump. It might be intentional not to cheese you way through the levels and i can understand that :) Great work!

Awesome game! Very nice idea, and even better execution. Congratulations!

Pretty much perfect. I don't see any other game winning really. 5 stars in every category.

My only critique is I wish there were more situations where pausing was necessary to progress similar to the first situation, but it was made in 3 days so that's understandable.

I love everything about this game. Art, simple yet clever mechanic, sound, movement.

Definatelly top-10 of this jam for me, so far. You are gonna score well, mark my words!

What i really wanted are checkpoints, some players (like me) are really bad :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing! I'm glad you liked it. Checkpoints was discussed but didn't make it in, unfortunately, due to time constraints. Hope it wasn't too frustrating! We appreciate the high praise

Really fun game - enjoyed the old school castlevania style atmosphere - nice soundtrack too. Clever use of the pause mechanic, I felt smart when I figured it out before the prompt.

Very clever use of the theme!

Very nice, also having certain elements (positive, and negative) still able to function makes the pause (time powers) risky. Not sure if the down-attack+double-jump was mentioned anywhere, I figured it out at the boss fight after a bit. Of course perhaps I failed to read. Either way, nice little castlevaina-like with a sort of prince of persia sands of time vibe

Very cohesive, especially for a group of 2 in just 3 days, kudos.
