I will check it out. I'm very inspired by downwell. Thanks

Thanks  that's huge praise 🙏. I tried adding mobile controls during the game jam period but couldn't get some of the event logic to work when the controls were remapped to touch screen. I may take another swing at it at some point!

Thanks for the comment, what do you mean by a chain of power up jumps?

More jam games should have checkpoints! Second highest in the jam is very good. Thanks!

Extremely high praise, thanks 🙏

Liked:

  • Character voice noises
  • Dialogue is well written
  • Soulful intro screen with the contract

Would improve:

  • Needs text skip/speedup, there's a lot of text
  • You can easily hardlock the game by moving during dialogue, forcing you to reset the whole game

that's the idea! lol

Honestly the gameplay is pretty fun, you just needed to work on the art and sound design and the game would be way better received. Also, no idea why there was a buy screen at the start?

Liked:

  • The bouncing off enemies mechanic, with the pitch shifting sound effects when you combo jumps off of enemies

Would improve:

  • The weird camera jolt when you bounce off of an enemy doesn't need to be there

The strongest parts of the game are the graphics and theme implementation. Really liked the opening cutscene illustrations, and the music/sound effects are pretty good. I find the gameplay extremely frustrating though due to the falling down and losing your progress aspect and the general controllability of the coin.

Already tried it and rated bro

Love me some downwell. The music timestamp thing is actually really easy with the new save/load event gdevelop put in recently . Thanks for the comment!

I'd happily play a game that had these movement mechanics, without the looking at the floor aspect. the movement is interesting enough in and of itself.

Had one crash so had to restart the game but overall pretty good

Decent world of goo inspired game.

Really appreciated the option to skip the story.

Quite nice art and sound design.

I got to the bridge level with balloons and it seems the balloon physics were all over the place, they wouldn't lift the bridge and then all of a sudden they'd go crazy and lift the bridge up into the sky and break everything. So I had to stop playing there.

Extremely ambitious title for the jam. Hard to believe it was made in the time span.

Really liked the 90s PC era aesthetics. It does seem more like a game you'd have to sink hours into though, not play in the time you usually give to a jam game. I'll probably add to a collection and come back.

If I were to give advice, you need some tutorialisation (Important: It has to be in game not in a text dump at the bottom of the page) and maybe speed up initial progression. hopefully there's some interesting stuff the higher up the tower you go. good job

Liked:

  • Sound design is generally quite good
  • the concept is original
  • Quite a high ambition game despite its simple appearance - you have whole team mate and enemy ai in there
  • you put a lot of effort into little menu transitions and things like that

What I would improve on:

  • the turn speed is wayy too high
  • would have appreciated the ability to zoom out (Like when the game is over) to see the entire playfield and see where I have to go
  • Team mates don't capture zones (or am I tripping?)

I thought the amount of checkpoints was pretty forgiving 😂

Thank you! The pacing was intentional, prefer games to not waste time

That's what the little speech bubble is for! 😭😂

???

😂😂 yeah the game juice 🧃 was one of the first things worked on. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing through to the end! And dropping a funny comment

That's actually very helpful for a feature in a game I'm working on, thank you.

Have you tried turning the volume up on your pc? 😂

Thanks brotha

Thanks! I hear that, but I really wanted to manage scope and get the game polished. The philosophy was to do one thing really well.

We had definitely had similar ideas. Thanks for playing

Thank you! I imagine most game devs have played a platformer or two at some point 😂

I'll give it another shot

might have gone overboard with the 3rd boss appearance! Thanks for commenting.

thank you for playing all the way through. you're not the first to mention celeste haha

Thanks!

Pretty standard cookie clicker type game, but with nice visuals

Would have been awesome to see all of it. What's there, especially the atmosphere and movement mechanics, are very good.

Really enjoyed the graphics, especially like the little touches like the walking up the stairs cutscene.

Like others below have mentioned, the combination of the hitboxes feeling too large coupled with the perspective makes the game very punishing to play.

Liked:

  • Shooting to move is a fun mechanic
  • Challenging but not too challenging

would improve:

  • I didn't like the audio, maybe put music instead of ambience

Actually quite enjoyable once you start automating aspects of the game.  addictive and played through to the end.

I didn't like the IOU items in the bank level though, since the auto-picker would pick them up and it bankrupted me

Liked:

  • The fx when something blows up
  • The audio and graphics are really good
  • The controls and jetpack are fun to use.

Room for improvement:

  • The game is way too hard, and there are no checkpoints. Couple this with how easy it is to die and how big your hitbox is, and it's quite fustrating.

I liked:

  • The atmosphere as a result of the music, rain fx, and lighting
  • The clambering mechanic is so satisfying to use

Room for improvement:

  • I really didn't like the wind that would blow out your lantern. It feels bordering on random and there's very little way to anticipate/dodge it

Liked:

  • The hand drawn artwork
  • The mining music

Room for improvement:

  • I would have doubled the rate of progression. It takes way too long to buy stuff
