Description
'The Missing Mountain' is an imaginary rougelike isometric action game in which the player is tasked with journeying through a mysterious forest to where there used to be two mountains, but now there is only one.
The music and tone of the game was inspired by the soundtracks to games such as Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight and Breath of the Wild, as well as the sounds of artists like Lena Raine, Disasterpeace, Ben Prunty, Akira Yamaoka and Ryuchi Sakamoto.
'Opening Titles' is fairly self-explanatory, I imagined this music scoring an introductory cutscene in which we see the two mountains, one disappears, and the player travelling to the mountain.
'Main Menu/Safe Location' was intended as sort of 'base camp' music, playing when the player is in a small village buying supplies and upgrades before heading into the woods for the mountain.
'Forest Road' is the main piece of soundtrack, and plays when the player is traversing through the deep woods surrounding the mountains. The intention was that the track build the further into the woods the player travels as an adaptive soundtrack.
'The Legend Of Two Mountains' covers a cutscene in which the story and history of the two mountains is revealed, as well as learning of the importance of the player's quest.
'Mountain Trail' is a sort of 'final level' piece, as the player traverses the remaining mountain to try and bring back its partner. This is where my thinking about the game started to get a bit foggy as I'm unsure where the story goes from here (I'm not really a game designer!). Similar to 'Forest Road', this piece is intended to build the higher the player climbs.
'End Cutscene/Credits' covers the ending of the game, as the mountain reappears and the player returns, changed, ending on a shot of the two mountains, reunited once again.
Message from the artist:
A dark, ambient score for an action roguelike inspired by Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight and Breath Of The Wild about setting out to find a disappearing mountain.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I really liked the image of two mountains, and I quickly had this idea about one of them suddenly disappearing, and going on a journey to get it back. I tried to build the score around the feeling of something profound being missing, and leaving a large hole in the world, both literally and metaphorically, and going on a journey you're not sure you'll return from.

A nice variety of ambient and textures. The end cutscene theme really got me
Threw the headphones on so i could really appreciate the texture on this one. I can see myself having the main menu theme on one of those looped 30 min youtube videos.
I really liked the more "relaxed" nature throughout the whole soundtrack! The uneasy but peaceful nature of everything really comes through. Awesome!
Beautiful !
beautiful, engaging music, and i love the game concept :)
Oh my goodness. The title alone is so great, but WOW. I would totally play this game, and in doing so, I’d do the thing where I just sit in the title screen to listen to your first track for a while before pressing start. And then hang out in the menu for a while, and then probably all the levels—you get the picture. You absolutely nailed this!!
This is precisely the sort of world I want to inhabit. Think I'll take it on a hike with me so I can live it. Thanks so much for sharing!
0/5, too much reverb...
......LOL who am I kidding? xD
This is probably my favorite soundtrack so far. It's emotive, dark, colorful, atmospheric and gigantic. A masterpiece. Everything sounds professional and it easly captivates the listener attention. Every melody has it's place. Although it actually has lots of reverb, it fits the style perfectly.
Amaaazing work. Loved it <3
Edit: Huge Celeste vibes from the sixth track! o.o
Nice ambient, pure tranquility. Good Work!
i love forest road, it has that feeling of being in a unknow place but little by little gaining confidence and courage to continue moving fowards, at least that is wath i feel, and its wonderful.
A pleasant and atmospheric soundtrack
very nice opening for a Japanese project, either being it a game or a movie.
amazing work! unreal mixing....
Like zinewave below me mentioned, the way you colour you soundtrack is brilliant and your usage of the piano is *chef's kiss*. Love it!
Also, I'll def be listening to the artists you mentioned!
The colour in this OST is stunning! Fantastic use of harmony! Super consistent soundscape right through the OST. Superb work!! <3
It's mixed really gently and instrumented so that it adds subtle, pulsating tension-release cycles that are great for pushing the player forward without dominating their attention or forcing urgency. Great ambience-making music.
Really cool and interesting - I could definitely envision your music in some sort of mystical adventure game. I particularly liked how you used the bass line to drive both the forest and mountain tracks, which made for a really nice change of pace from the rest! Very cool!
Beautiful, soft piano! I enjoyed that. Good job :)
A lot of poetry in the choice of timbres and harmonies. Each track responds perfectly to the expected circumstances. The melodies are very pleasant, superbly highlighted. The atmosphere is magnificent, captivating and delicate at the same time. A quality OST that is pleasant to listen to for pleasure. Very inspired by the music of the classics of the genre, each piece is a pure success. By far one of my favorites, and above all, a wonderful surprise. A composer immediately added to the artists followed on Soundcloud (be careful, the link provided does not work: probably a problem with the private link, and therefore non-shareable). A balance of rich sounds, clear chords, without ever weighing down. I find a lot of nostalgia and color as I like to hear it in the music of Japanese works and dark metroidvanias (which inspired an old piece of mine "https://yazorius.bandcamp.com/track/kibooworld-main-theme" with sounds quite close to yours). The mix between the instrumental and the electronic is also an undeniable success, and contributes to this unique atmosphere. Frankly, I love all the OST that I allow myself to put aside to fill with magic my reading moments ! Well done.
