Theme

Chronicles of the Azure Sky: The White Dragon's Melody
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
My instrumentation and chord choices were inspired by both the name "The White Dragon's Melody" and the image of a white dragon. Using them I created the track with the idea of it being the character theme of the dragon (and the girl).

Very sad and melancholic...

Great work and great instrumentation ! The erhu feels really appropriate considering the dragon's appearance on the picture theme, so it's a great fit for the theme. Nice job !

This is very good. My only critique is the choice of notes on the piano at the beginning at 0:07-0:08, I think that E flat doesn't belong.

Your notes are:

B-E flat-A-B

A few other resolution progressions:

B-F sharp-G-B

B-F-G-B

B-Aflat-G-F (descending patterns can give some context, and also naturally imply resolution).

B-D-F-G

That note is literally the only note (and when it is repeated) that feels out of place to my ear. The rest all works and fits.

Great work, great atmosphere! I love the use of the erhu.

Yeah that arpeggio is meant to imply a V+ (G+) which is why it uses E♭ instead of D. V+ is just serving as a substitution to V. A less common dominant chord than V so it might not be for everyone

So implying a G-B-E♭  chord (G is being played in the duduk melody). The A is there for melodic minor flavor lol

Up till that point in the progression I was mostly using 1-5-9 voicings so maybe the break from that pattern was jarring.

Thanks for the feedback!

Oooo, really enjoyed the compositions, your instrumentation was awesome. and that kinda almost chromatic buildup was really great to the ears.

Developer

Thank you! I really like using chromatic movements

I really liked the pizzicato section, very calming. Kind of reminds me of the Drawn to Life ost, something subtle about the melodic and instrumentation choices I think. Great work!

Developer

Thank you! I'll have to check that ost out

this was really cool, I really like the chord progressions, especially that passage around 0:53

Developer

Thank you! That was one of my favorite parts to make

As other have said, good instrument choices. I really like how the instruments melody lines counteract each other without feeling overcrowded. Great work!

Love the atmosphere around this one! It's really takes you into another world. I like the usage of pizzicato in the strings. Very cool piece. :D

This is so good! Totally what I had in mind when they announced the theme. The instrumentation is perfect and overall I haven't paid too much attention to the mixing on these tracks since we had little to no time but this sounds quite amazing and wide.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it

This was an enjoyable listen, very polished. I really like the outro section that starts at 1:48, the chord progression you crafted with the different melodic elements is very classical.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

I like the use of east Asian instruments. Really great work!

I really like this! Sounds really tranquil, the erhu and other east asian instruments work nicely here

Thanks!

i love the ethnic lead you got going on, is that an erhu? this song really reminds me of classic stories you would hear about dragons as a kid. i especially like how the track is all over in terms of chords, there's no home base in a sense and the piece is constantly moving, great work :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah that's erhu, thanks! Glad that image carried across!

Very nice, and kind of melancholic. The instrumentation is great, and the piece kind of reminds me of TLOZ Breath Of The Wild.

I also really enjoyed the harmony : I don't have the best musical ear, so I might've identified these wrong, but I liked your use of suspended chords, and how you sometimes resolved them to a minor chord ("instead" of major).

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad it gave BOTW vibes. Yeah I used a good number of sus4 and add9s, though I didn't resolve any to a minor chord (I do love the sus->minor resolution though).  I had some other chord movements that might have resembled a sus2/4->minor resolution. Thanks for the detailed feedback!
