Description
We made a kart racer where you drive on the dragons

When the world discovered dragons, their awe and wonder soon turned to boredom, and it wasn't long before we started looking for creative ways to put them to use. Due to their massive scale, dragons are used as racetracks for the world's zaniest kart racer. You and your competitors now race for the chance to compete on the legendary White Dragon, the most famous and difficult course of all time.

1. Sea Dragon Speedway
A lower-stakes track that serves as your introduction to the league. This course doesn't pose the risk of falling out of the sky, but you still need to make sure your kart is equipped to deal with driving underwater. Although the sea dragon has relatively predictable movement, you still shouldn't underestimate this track, as its long serpentine body leaves your opponents many opportunities to sabotage you.

2. Twin Abyssal Wyrms
This track represents a sharp difficulty curve. Keeping up with the wyrms' vertical movement and knowing when to jump from one to the other are vital skills. Being creatures of the abyss, the wyrms are easily startled when brought under the azure sky for league races, making their movement particularly erratic.

3. White Dragon Crossroads
Given that this dragon is believed to have been worshipped as a god by multiple lost civilizations, it should come as no surprise that the white dragon is the most intimidating track in the league. Its length is more than double that of any other course thus far, and it actively seeks to blast the racers on its body with its fire breath. Anyone who bests this challenge will be remembered for centuries as a racing champion.

4. Polychrome Wyvern
After beating the white dragon, you didn't feel the sense of accomplishment you were hoping for, so you decided that there must be a greater challenge out there somewhere. You left the league in search of wild dragons to race on, eventually discovering a fearsome beast unknown to the rest of humanity. You spend the rest of your career racing on this dragon, constantly striving to beat your best time, dancing eternally in the azure sky.

Theme

Chronicles of the Azure Sky: The White Dragon's Melody

How does it fit the theme?
Every individual race track is a dragon, and the White Dragon is like the final challenge. Most of the game takes place in the (azure) sky.

Would never have thought of interpreting the theme this way, damn creative for sure. Really fun submission, I LOVE White Dragon Crossroads, especially the last part with the sudden slow down and speed up again, OH BOY! It slaps. HARD.

Man this is perfect. There's not much i can say that hasn't been said already, you guys are awesome. I rated this 3 days ago and im still listening to some of these tracks because they are just SO GOODDDDD especially polychrome wyvern, this song feels so colorful and heavenly to me and i love it. But man both of you have such amazing composing styles, thank you guys for such an enjoyable listen

Great soundtrack, and very original too !
It is very catchy and energetic, and I'd definitely like to play the game imagined here : maybe it would play like the tube parts in F-Zero X/GX (you can drive all around the dragon's bodies with antigravity) or like the eel part in Mario Kart 8's Dolphin Shoals (the dragons continuously move and you can bounce off the scales at certain points) ?
Maybe the correlation to the theme feels like a bit of a stretch but whatever, as long as it makes a great soundtrack, then so be it. Great job !

this one is a vibe - sonic the dragon?

White Dragon Crossroads rocks. That heavy slap bass is godtier!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! it was a lot of fun to record

Oh boy I never thought I'd hear dnb on this jam and it's my favorite genre! The kart racer direction is so unique and different from what we all imagined with the theme tbh. I think it somehow still captivates the escence in a truly original way. I honestly really love the tracks by themselves aside from this jam, specially the first one !!

You did freaking fantastic on this, I think all of the songs soudn cool as hell. I loved seeing you take this prompt in a jungle/dnb direction, super creative and it turned out great. Also, I swear i hear you thumping on that bass fill like a minute forty into the third track, it sounds sounds nasty as fuck, super cool.

If you dont mind my asking, what kinds of tools and methods did you use to create these? also specifically, how did the collaboration between you two work? inter musician collaboration in this kind of setting can be difficult, so im curious to hear what you did to make it work.

Developer

Thank you! We both used Logic Pro, for my tracks I did a lot of dividing everything into sections (White Dragon Crossroads in particular) one of which being a slap/thump bass section because I've been dying to record slap bass for a project. I normally do more ambient and orchestral stuff so there isn't much opportunity for that kinda stuff haha. We both have been working together on a lot of music projects pretty much since we both started making music, the collaboration aspect of Azure Drift was pretty simple we came up with the game idea together then we each worked mostly independently setting out to make two tracks based around that idea  sharing our progress along the way so we didn't go to far off stylistic-wise.

What a unique take! This took the interpretation to a whole different level! Very enjoyable. :)

all of these tracks have so much character, i can fully see a mariokart-esc game where you're driving on dragons, i love the story you guys gave for the songs. great compositions all around :)

Well done friend. My favorite is  "Polychrome Wyvern"

OOOOOOOOOOOOO this is SO good. I really love the racing aspect to your theme. It fits so perfectly with your description. Very creative. Also the music feckin rules. THAT SAX THO.

I'll leave another comment for the music but that art is AMAZING. So good. Made me laugh pretty hard.

This is such a cool interpretation of the theme!
I had a huge smile when I heard the super monkey ball 2 announcer say ready go because I have done that in a song I made a long time ago. If its not the SMB2 announcer pretend I didn't say anything and I just liked the announcer in the Polychrome Wyvern

all the tracks are really good but my favorite was probably the sea dragon speedway because I liked how catchy it was.

Polychrome Wyvern really did feel like a secret bonus hard world with the synth and I thought that was really cool!

Really spectacular entry!

This is insanely good!! Bravo! 👏 My favorite track was Twin Abyssal Wyrms, but they were all really cool!

Submitted(+2)

This is insanely good, especially the percussion. This feels almost too gripping for a kart game haha. The synths are an incredible part of the OST and have a very airy sound that fits beautifully with the sky theme, plus the e-piano (and other instruments I can’t identify) remind me of simpler times on the Wii; I can’t explain why that relates to the theme, it just does. Needless to say, incredible work to both of you.

Another great collab from you two!

That SM64 synth and sax in Sea Dragon Speedway. Love it!

I'll say it again, I love that duduk in Twin Abyssal Worms. Cool breakcore vibe!

Love the choice of Phrygian Dominant in White Dragon Crossroads. Banger!

I absolutely love the instrumentation in Polychrome Wyvern.

The racing game take on the theme was pretty unique! Would race to all these bangers. Great work as always!

I really liked your EP but music asides omg thats such a cool game concept someone should do a game based on this i love it. 10/10 extremely creative idea

Submitted(+2)

Great submission! Both of you did a great job on your respective tracks, bringing a uniqueness to each! Definitely fits the racing game described!

Four spectacular tracks! Really dug the solid bass treatment at the White Dragon Crossroads! Polychrome Wyvern makes you feel like a champ!
