Man these are all absolute bangers but my favorites are definitely August Forever and Try Again!! Everyone else already said this but the concept is super creative and the way you applied it to the tracks is AWESOME. My favorites are definitely August Forever and Try Again!! Amazing stuff!!!
also this might be a huge reach but I swear I heard a little bit of Polychrome Wyvern in August Forever (at 2:35) but maybe I'm just going crazy idk
Good stuff :jam: !! I don't know if this is a reach but this gives me heavy mother 3 vibes for some reason, probably because of the variety of genres which Mother 3 also does a lot! I think the story you wrote and interpretation of the theme is really creative and really fits that whole "Summer" thing from the theme!! if we still had correlation to theme i'd have given you 5 stars there too. My favorite tracks are probably Baile en la Playa and Whimsical ferrous Blossom (in that order), but I think every song fits its intended purpose very well!! For Baile en la Playa I especially love the part at 0:20, and i also think the rhythm is very cool!! also those two 7/4 bars at the beginning of the song totally slap, would have loved to hear them more tbh. Whimsical Ferrous Blossom is just a bop, i really like how the trumpet and electric guitar sound on this one, in fact if thats okay I wanted to ask how you got them/what they are, i cant for the life of me find a good sounding trumpet 🙏😭
i rated this a few days back but i was feeling kinda down so i didn't leave a comment but im feeling a little better now so i figured i'd come back and leave one anyway
this is an awesome submission, the whole thing truly feels like an adventure and it's SO good, i kind of suck at sound design and ambient so i don't exactly know any more specific things i could compliment/give feedback on on this where i'd actually know what i'm talking about but overall the quality and storytelling are amazing on this one i think. this is a long reach but some elements of sine reminded me of 12am from deltarune which is a song i really like. I'm so glad you kept thunder after all because i really think it fits awesomely with the scene it represents, like i swear it sounds like thunder itself. plus i admire how well produced it sounds despite being so intense!! thunder's one of my favorites for sure. mark... is also really fantastic, it reminded me of minecraft a little bit, also it made me feel sad but still sounded like serious and empty... like not cliche sad idk?? idk how else to put it, it's great! nkumo atoll is my OTHER favorite i think apart from thunder, i like all the percussive elements plus 7/4 = instant banger. and i just realized it has 5/8 or 5/something too i think. even better. overall i think all the songs are super well made and flawlessly fit their respective parts of the story and moods they're supposed to convey, you did a fantastic job imo!! :D
btw WOOOOO WE LOVE LORENZO'S DRUMS (ignore if you didnt actually use lorenzos drums maybe im just tripping)
i always look forward to your submissions on every jam, you always make bangers! It's impressive that you did this on an old computer honestly, i would have probably ragequit if that happened to me ngl 😭
i think my favorite track is moonlit fields, it's a banger, really liked the choice of synths for that one, also this goes for Goodbye, Sun as well but i especially like the acoustic guitars on the sides and how they drive the rhythm of the song if that makes sense (idk if that's the right term for it) , also I love the way Moonlit Fields is mixed though i feel like it's just a LITTLE BIT quieter than the other tracks but that's honestly not a big issue, STARWEAVER is also a banger too i always love intense drums like that! the bass is also super good i love it! of course as the other comment said maybe some things could be mixed differently (if it helps at all personally i'd turn the crash down a little but dont take my word for it as im not very good at mixing) but honestly it's really good for having been made in just 3 hours, plus im guessing you hadai similar situation to mine bc i myself rushed my last track a bit since i was getting tired 😭
also to be VERY honest i wasn't able to understand the full story that well but probably because i have the worst reading comprehension of all time xD sorry about that, but still i feel like every individual track fits their descriptions very well! and STARWEAVER sounds like a reallyh cool song for a final boss bullet hell section against a super powerful cosmic entity!!
as a side note the cover art is SO pretty i wish i could make stuff like that in 40 minutes! amazing stuff as always and hope to see you again next jam :D
guys thank you for all the feedback!! sorry if I don't leave comments back on your submissions but I am listening and rating everyone back I just haven't been feeling confident in making comments bc I feel like I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time but I will rate every comment back for sure!!
Sure! I use Pixelorama for my art, it's free on itch.io: https://orama-interactive.itch.io/pixelorama
If you'd like something simpler I also used Piskel before this!
Now as for how I made the art, I don't really consider myself to be *good* at art yet, For drawing a lot of things I searched google images for references with things I had trouble drawing (either other pixel art or real life photos), of course you shouldn't copy references as is, I just look at how they do certain details and draw ideas from that to improve the sprite. Now I suggest you follow actual Youtube tutorials or something because most of the time I don't really know what I'm doing when drawing 😭
Yeah you're right many people got stuck on the coin puzzle, that's my fault :'(
About the solution for room number 13, it might really not make a lot of sense but I wanted to fit the loop theme a little more, so when you call room number 1 you get the first phone dialogue of the game ("it seems you're stuck in a loop, etc"), but this time it is YOU who says it, implying YOU were Number 13 all along! Not necessarily a loop but it does connect to the start of the game.
Thanks a lot for playing, and for your input!!
Thanks a lot for all this constructive feedback, that vacuum cleaner idea is honestly awesome and I wish I had thought of that!!! Now I kinda feel like updating the game just to add it. Also sorry about the volume!
Yeah I also wish the ending was a little more interesting but by the end I was rushing the levels ngl. I probably should've just gone for like 7-8 rooms instead of 13.
Thanks again, really! I appreciate constructive feedback like this a lot :)
Yo I honestly had a blast with this game!! The mechanic was super creative and fun, it felt like I was playing with friends at times. I got super mad at the past me's sometimes but it was all super funny, I enjoyed all 10 levels and honestly I wish I could play 10 more.
Amazing job both of you!!!! :)
despite it being a short demo i thought it was very fun and distinct, i really liked the humor and art and like the overall style was very refreshing to me, the game made me giggle even before i opened it! (when trying to open the new game.exe), also i think it's really cool how you managed to convey so much personality in such little time, within the first few minutes i already liked the main character and the narrator as characters! I personally tend to get bored with games pretty easily but this one had me hooked from the start, i hope i can see a full release in the future :)
also if you choose to fully compose the game's music yourself in the future i hope you have a fun experience doing so! making music can be pretty cool
This idea is honestly so cool, the tracks loop so seamlessly that it took me some time to realize they were looping, and I think it's a nice detail that it can run on an emulator/gameboy! The songs themselves are very nice too (my personal favorite was Quest) and I could hear the corresponding motif very well in both of them, nice job :)
I don't really have a good ear for mixing quality but like I swear there's no way this is bad mixing😭 For real though everything about this submission was awesome, I don't even know what to say, I feel like nothing in particular stood out to me because everything was perfect, it was unique, good quality, good composition, good storytelling, and it SLAPS so much. Nice work!
tysm for your feedback! don't put yourself down like that though, I listened to your entry and thought it was very fun and good composition and quality wise. In any way, I appreciate feedback regardless of who's giving it, so thank you again I'll take it into account :) (whether you want me to or not)
I think all three songs are beautiful but Eluding The Shackles is a BANGER. Also I really love that melody and chords in the second track! The story you thought about sounds very interesting too, people first wanting to be free from the real world, and then regretting their decision and wanting to be free from Haven. Thinking they would be free but instead ending up in a new cell.
Great work once again! I can still hear the Xenoblade influence :)
This was really nice to just vibe to. Amazing basslines, the melodies were fantastic, and percussion was also really good! I also loved the chord choices for the songs as well. My favorite track was Gelato Vibrato. Or Bakers Dozen. I don't even know anymore, I think both are bangers. I don't wanna leave Strawberry Jam behind though, that one was also really good, especially that piano melody.
These songs (especially Gelato Vibrato) reminded me of the soundtrack from Ultimate Chicken Horse. I mean this as a big compliment, I really think that game has banger music.
Your submissions are always full of creativity and very fun to listen to! Good stuff as always Jofes!
This is such a cool take on the theme! The image theme does remind me of a futuristic setting so I think the story you came up fits the theme very well.
Your tracks give me that futuristic feeling and I think they perfectly fit the scenarios you associated them with. One I'd like to highlight is En Force, that one was my favorite (probably because I love electric guitars) Also that synth note that starts around 0:17 gives off that "robot drone detected intruder" feeling (i don't know how else to put it), so I think that's a really nice touch.
And as always I love the illustrations you make to help visualize your story, they make your submissions very unique and creative! Honestly it should be a crime for someone to listen to your entry without checking the project page. Great job as always!
Really good stuff!! Composition and mixing were very nicee. Every track was really fun and enjoyable, I never felt like they got repetitive or boring, but rather I felt like there was always something new going on! (that's a good thing) I also love the way you play with key changes, and how you manage to transition to them so smoothly. To be honest listening to this reminded me of Xenoblade and Touhou music, I really like both soundtracks, hope you don't mind the comparison though. If I had to pick a favorite track, I'd say it was Soaring in Ambition, especially the part after 1:56. Nice work again!
Ngl I listened to this on SoundCloud first but then I had to go back and watch the video out of curiosity, and WOW thank God I did, watching it was such a cool experience and it helped me get so much more inmersed in your story. While I was watching the video, I was imagining a voice narrating all the text while I read it, and the music sounded so natural alongside it too. The way you interpreted the theme is one of the most unique I've seen so far, plus I love all the little details and information you put in your story! (I personally would attend a Tune-a Fishes concert). The songs you made were very fun! And in my opinion, they all capture the vibe of the ocean very well, they all felt very underwatery (I don't know how else to put it). My personal favorites where Nonstopped Unpopped and Octo-Popper Supreme.
I can tell you put a lot of effort into this, and I can tell you it's one of the most complete entries I've seen! You should definitely feel proud of this. Hope to see you again next jam Jofes!
This gets a 5 in creativity for that project page alone, it's so beautiful! I remember the one you made for crunchtime also had cool drawings and stuff as well. As someone else said, the guitars sound really good, for me personally I love how they sound in Acceptance. I think the tracks fit the chapters of your story very nicely! So nice work again.
Also you weren't lying about our stories being very alike damn. I've seen a few other submissions with similar plots as well, where the main character lost one of their relatives and goes looking for them.
Man you always deliver!!! I love the concept you came up with, I really enjoy games that show things through different perspectives. I love the way you handle transitions between songs and how you sometimes set up for the next track, it makes listening to your music a really cool experience. I think every track is phenomenally made, but my favorites are definitely the first and third. Nice job again! Hope to see you again in the next jam :)
Man this is perfect. There's not much i can say that hasn't been said already, you guys are awesome. I rated this 3 days ago and im still listening to some of these tracks because they are just SO GOODDDDD especially polychrome wyvern, this song feels so colorful and heavenly to me and i love it. But man both of you have such amazing composing styles, thank you guys for such an enjoyable listen
