"FlameHeart" is an imaginary, JRPG-style fantasy action game about a world in peril. When the World Dragon was slain by an unknown mercenary group, the seven lesser dragons of old were summoned back into the human realm to restore order. Each dragon is spiritually bound to enforce one of the seven heavenly virtues - prudence, justice, temperance, fortitude, faith, hope, and clarity - even if doing so would be at the cost of humanity's existence. The youngest of the dragons, Flameheart, overseer of temperance, finds himself in an unlikely pairing with Nila, heiress to a clan of legendary dragon killers. As the two find themselves at the center of a bitter, fractured war, they both hold each other to a single principle - to stay true to themselves.

Track 1: Dragon's Dance - When the World Tree begins to burn, Flameheart and Nila are caught in a race to the top against the two remaining lesser dragons and their companions. In this bitter culmination, emotions rage from determination, to desperation, to grand heroism. And this time, there are no holds barred.
Track 2: Mourning - "Wouldn't it be nice if they could've lived to see the world they made?"

Message from the artist
Hi all! Emileiion here - though I actually go by EmilTwo on my other socials now (though also I'll probably change this name again soon hah). I'm a game dev based in NYC with a deep love for music, especially soundtrack things. In terms of my music background, I'm a violinist by trade and also play a bit of piano. Some of my favorite games/media include Nier, soulsbourne, and eva. I also really like the fire emblem aesthetic/feel/sound even though I haven't played any of the games (yet). I've been learning to produce/compose in my free time for a few years now and thought I should try entering into more public things like this. I didn't know OST Comp jams existed until I randomly came across this one, and it seemed like a fun thing to try so here I am.
In terms of sound inspirations, when I saw the theme, I immediately envisioned something related to a mix of the FF16, Fire Emblem, and Dark Souls sound - all games that I feel have an elegant aesthetic surrounding their use of dragons or beast-like beings. I hope you enjoy the works!
I used FL Studio 21 for this project - lyrical violin lines were live recorded by me. Vocals are from the synth V vocaloid software. All other sounds are from VSTs.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I specifically emphasized an orchestration reminiscent of fantasy medieval ARPGs, with usage of brass, aggressive percussion, and string shorts familiar with encounters with dragons and the like in media.
For some additional touches, I included some dragon sounds in the first piece, like a burning fire sound and dragon roars.
See the game description for more context and vision into how I intended for this soundtrack to connect to the theme.

omg I'm nearing the end of the submissions I can rate before I tap out from listening fatigue but I am SOOOO glad I got to this one!!! holy shit!!! how did you make this in 48 hours?!?! the first intro section on Dragon's Dance is SO dark souls, and then the use of fast-paced percussion makes it feel so FF & FE. the crazy arpeggios on the strings and piano are insane!!
and then the soft melancholy of Mourning foils Dragon's Dance so well, but also feels really intertwined!! I really genuinely cannot give this enough my praise, it's maybe my favorite submission out of the whole jam?? I would love to hear this in an actual game, I hope you get to use it for one at some point
edit: saw another commenter mention this but yes it is also very Nier: Automata!! especially with the vocals at the end. you've managed to take so many influences together but still make something completely unique and beautiful <3 <3
edit 2: YOU PLAYED THAT VIOLIN YOURSELF???????
i too hope I get to use it for a game I make one day haha
Thank you for the kind words! They've made my morning
This is the best entry I've heard so far, and I just can't believe I listened to such high quality out here. The mix is damn good for the given time! Your violin voicing and sensitivity deeply touched me in both tracks, maybe even more during the second one, where the calm ambiance help to fully appreciate it. I wish I could listen to more of this kind of composition writing in recent videogames. I was about to add that it would perfectly fit in Final Fantasy when I read your desc. ! You inspired my mind for the whole day.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the violin playing - sometimes I feel like I've spent too many hours of my life learning that instrument hah
Woooow I love those arpeggiated strings and piano in Dragon's Dance - the 3 over 4 groove is brilliant and the vocals are so pretty (reminds me of FF13/Fire Emblem)! Your orchestral instrumentation sounds modded in some parts which is super unique and the use of sound design was so creative; I loved every bit of this. I could definitely see this in a Tales game or Nier (any JRPG really).
Outstanding work, especially for 48 hours! Please keep entering these jams, you're smashing it.
When you say "modded" what do you mean exactly? But yes, thank you for the kind words! they're much appreciated. I do love all of the soundtracks you mentioned
Definitely getting Fire Emblem vibes from Dragon's Dance! Sounds like something you'd hear in Three Houses in particular. Your composition is great! The vocals are great, looks like I need to pick up Synth V too lol.
Mourning is such a pretty outro. Those chord and that harp! And then those strings!
Amazing work!
I really love the three houses soundtrack (despite having not played the game... yet) so I appreciate that you found a resemblance haha
The composition is really great, especially the second track. I'm so moved, the string melody makes me cry.
Wow! So dramatic it hurts (jk of-course). The music here is fantastic, and the quality is immaculate.
You blended the live and digital instruments so well, you could be easily fooled into thinking it's all live. Your use of vocals especially is mesmerising. To be quite honest, I think this could easily be the OST to a best seller, triple A game (or movie!).
Personally, my favorite track Mourning - those harp arpeggios are making me swoon....
Great melodies, great instrumentation, great music.
Fantastic job!
thank you so much, you're too kind haha
Excellent work, your violin playing was immaculate. I could feel the love for the Souls series in the intro to "Dragon's Dance"; however, I'm a sucker for more pure orchestral compositions, so "Mourning" took the cake for me.
I hereby speak on behalf of the "not as great of a composer club" and I regret to inform you that you're not allowed to win. You're TOO DAMN GOOD! In all seriousness that was a mind blowingly fantastic adventure. Was that tempo modulation or just halftime in dragons dance. Either way, you better believe I'm gonna be listening to this for fun. Holy smokes. Great Job!
haha it was just a halftime thing - im really a fan of those though. Glad you liked it!!
Really awesome pieces, the instrumentation and build-up on both tracks is extremely nice (each in their own way), and the live interpretation on violin is incredible and make the tracks truly stand out (also the added vocals are really great). Overall really great package, so congrats for your work !
The build up in the first track is great! Ngl, I prematurely had you a bit lower on creativity (there's just so many Ghibli-esque fanfares I'm sorry 😔) but the vocals automatically bumped you up like 2 stars. And then the second track went in a very Legend of Korra mixed with Zelda direction which was delicate and beautiful. Well done on these, especially finding the time to do vocals. Great work!
yea nah Dragon's Dance is NUTS
Awesome!
Given the time constraint, my only constructive feedback is something you probably didn't have time for, and that's just that the first track still has that "these are VST hardcorded instruments" where some dynamics are what stand between it and perfection.
The second track is my favorite because it sounds like you were playing the harp VST with the piano.
Really fantastic work.
Love the composition! Everything works so well fast-paced. Really fits the theme and extremely well polished
That is really amazing. Insane what you did in only 48h (and hopefully enough time to rest in between :D)
I think the quality and composition are amazing (that gave me vibes of one of my favorite Game OSTs which is NieR:Automata) and is very inspiring
thank you! Nier is one of my favorite games/soundtracks of all time so it means a lot to mean that you found a resemblance haha
Warrior cats ahh name flameheart
jokes aside, when the vocals hit in Dragon's Dance I went crazy. This is excellently done. So fast paced and fun with so many layers the mixing is super good!
I much prefer Dragons dance over mourning but that's just a personal preference for fast fun songs. Both are amazing.
Really well done! Both have blown me away
Wow this is awesome!! This is absolutely my favorite so far!!
thank you! I really appreciate the kind words
I could entirely imagine these pieces within a cinema or video game. Its ethereal and really builds a scene to imagine. Fantastic work. I admire you. <3
This project is HYPE from start to finish. "Dragon's Dance" has absolutely stunning instrumentation, cinematic flourishes, and one of the best implementations of vocals that I've ever heard in an OST jam, and "Mourning" expertly builds atmosphere with the choir and harp. Absolute fire give urself a pat on the back fr
thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed. your project is also great!
