Description
All tracks are composed in Logic Pro X. For synthesizers I used Phase Plant, Vital, and Polygon 2. For orchestral libraries I used both Spitfire Audio and Orchestral Tools. I also used an old broken radio, a handmade drone jar synthesizer, and a melodica.

You play as a girl plagued by vivid nightmares searching for a cure. You explore four areas that are cursed with being stuck in each of the four seasons for eternity. First being Autumn, second being Summer, third being Spring, and the final one being Winter. The seasons are in a reversed order to reflect how disoriented the main character is. In the end you must confront your nightmares as they begin consuming the world you loved.

Track 1 - Fall Forest: You find yourself in a forest surrounded by stone ruins and brilliant trees of red and gold. It's unclear what happened to the inhabitants and the stone walls crumble under your finger tips.

Track 2 - Fight in the Summer Heat: Things take a harrowing turn as you encounter someone much like yourself. Someone exhausted and torn from the seemingly endless nightmares. Only difference between them and you is that you haven't given up hope yet.

Track 3 - Glass Field in Springtime: You explore a wide open meadow with seemingly no end. Small crystal glass formations cover the field in the place of grass. What odd phenomenon created this?

Track 4 - Voice of the Ice Mountains: You are certain you can hear voices come out of the mountains, but there is no sign of life. Nothing good could make this frigid landscape their home, it's best you move swiftly.

Track 5 - All Consuming Nightmare: You arrive at the end of your journey with nothing to show for it. You are tired, drained, and on the brink of despair. The black abyss of the crevices of your conscious become ever so welcoming. Your mind aches. What is your purpose? Who even are you? Would giving up be so bad?

Message from the artist:
Had a lot of fun experimenting and coming up with weird ideas for making noises

Theme:

Story of Seasons
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I wrote four tracks to correspond with each season and area on the main character's journey. I interpreted the black area as the character's nightmares/fears that she needs to face.

A really creepy atmosphere, good work!

Awesome in scope: definitely has a very unsettling vibe to the whole experience. I think I loved the Summer Fight track the best: I liked the glitchy saturation coming into the fight and then the section from the strings onwards: I can definitely feel myself embroiled in a battle to the death. Great work!

This is a really great, unique and nicely well made work. It seems that each track is perfectly connected with the next one building a nice but creepy atmosphere in a well written climax. Good job!

Really atmospheric, sonically coherant as an OST but each area still has unique traits, nicely done

Developer

Thanks!

An incredible work of timbres and textures. You must be an excellent sound designer! I loved the mix between the epic mood, glitchs, noise, ambience, futurism and experimentalism. I found your idea very well executed, strange and provocative in the right measure!

Developer(+1)

Thank you haha, I love sound design so it's always nice to hear that the effort I put into it pays off!

What a vibe! i love your use of saturation, great atmosphere :)

Thank you!

ohgoshwhatdidijustlistento

the sound design here is PHENOMENAL, not to mention the incredible texture. All Consuming Nightmare is my favorite. It's such an eerie experience!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! All Consuming Nightmare was my favorite track to work on

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely incredible! Love your work.

Nice ambience! Amazing how you created landscape and places only with sound, and I could imagine the place. Great job!

Developer

Thank you!

Aaaah ambient. And with a fun experimental touch. I like how manipulate sound textures, especially saturation, to build interesting harmonics. It has a Tim Hecker feel to it (espcially Voice of the Ice Mountains). I also like your take on the theme even though I had something much brighter in mind lol.

Developer

Thank you! Tim Hecker is a new name, I'll have to check him out

The vibe its really interesting. The seasons are definetly unique on their own, but i like the wierd sound i heard. Cool entry!

Submitted(+1)

this is crazy good - the balance between nightmare and beauty is perfect, and every sound is fun and filled with emotion.  loved it

Developer

Thank you! That balance was something I wanted to find, I wanted it to feel like there was both good and bad and that nothing is always nightmares (a sort of yin and yang or light at the end of the tunnel type thing)

As others have said, you made some wild sonic textures. Super unique entry. And I also want to highlight the cool chord progression in the second half of Fight In The Summer Heat. Great use of tension and release. And also lovely chords in Glass Field In Springtime. All in all great use of pitched and unpitched sounds to paint these auditory landscapes. I love how each track is asking the listener to imagine a totally new space. I'd love to see it matched up to some cool pixel art!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I love making wild and weird textures  and finding unconventional ways of making them (e.g. at the end of my last track I rerecorded the first three tracks though my speakers with my mic and put them all together with some pitch shifting and reverb along with some feedback from my speakers and a pitched down drone synth to make an ugly sonic mess. You can just barely make out the arpeggiating piano from the beginning of "Fight in the Summer Heat" and the spaced out synth in the intro of "Fall Forest". I called this "music soup" in my notes).

Also, glad you liked my chords! I'm never sure if I'm doing them right so it's nice to hear that they were good

Woooooah I never would have guessed that. Pretty ingenious! Honestly if I told you I could make out the earlier songs at the end of the last long I would be lying haha. But you made something totally new and it definitely fits your description of that track O_O

Developer

I tried to make it subtle so I'm not surprised haha, I almost did the effect with one of my previous submissions instead as a callback but figured it would make more sense storywise to do it with tracks in this submission

Submitted(+1)

Makes a lot of sense storywise. A lot of sad and scary sense. I hope the protagonist girl is able to find some resolution in an epilogue ;)

The distortion sounds are awesome, especially in the last track!

Thank you!

Epic sound design. When I listen to this ost I got impressed. Maybe because it sounds very unique. You made epic ost

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Phenomenal sound design. Your soundtrack is another one that really sticks out to me. It's got such massive, intimidating walls of sound. Its both unsettling and beautiful in its overwhelming atmosphere. Stellar work!

I'm always a sucker for sneaky time signatures. You got the creepy across thats for sure, yet I couldn't pull myself away from listening to the layers and what was next.

Developer

Thanks! It's always fun trying to fit something into weird time signatures

I can feel the Caretaker inspiration here. The little story you gave each of the tracks made it that much eerier, especially with the bit about finding someone else who's given up and saying "that can never be me, right?". The little voices you put in track 4 are also especially haunting. All around great work

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you liked the little stories and the voices

This is great! I especially like all the different ways you convey intensity to the listener across different tracks.
