Description
The Soundtrack is an Orchestral one with bits of synth here and there
I used Logic Pro X

On the menu you have :

The Main Theme (Éloïse's Theme) :
-A simple theme with a two part melody, but with 4 different orchestrations (for the 4 seasons)
and a very soft modulation to fit the peaceful nature of Eloïse !

A Hub Theme (Safe in the Shadows) :
-Here we have a rising motif and a more contrasting modulation, which give a clue on the majestic but mysterious nature of Darkness.
We also have a call back to the way Eloïse's Theme begins
This Hub is supposed to be in the world of darkness where you are safe from view and can cozily gaze at the stars from a world of night, the shimmering woods are kind of my translation of an endless sea of stars in the skies

And a Boss Battle Theme (Tenebra Eternalis) :
-This is theme galore
A lot of the more lyrical/long note melodies are mangled versions of Eloise's theme
we also have multiple call backs to the beginning of Eloise's Theme again, notably at the beginning with the Organ
The rising motif and the stark modulations of Safe in the Shadows are made even more aggressive and furious, to inform you that whatever safety you had with the Darkness, it is now gone.

(EDIT) Here is the list of VSTs i used ;

-Albion One (has String/Brass/Winds/Percussions and loads of synths, not very precise but it does the job)
- Spitfire Intimate Strings (cheap!)
- Soft String Spurs (free on pianobook)

- Spitfire Studio Woodwinds Professional (bit pricy, but i need those pretty articulations on the woodwinds ^^)
- Embertone « Recorders » (super cheap for what you get with a gorgeous legato)

- Celesta Incogni (free on pianobook)
- Yamaha Glockenspiel (free on pianobook)
- Hunter’s Orchestral Percussions (free on pianobook and absolutely awesome)
- Wind Chimes Premier G (cheap!)
- Surge Synth (free and comes with a giant collection of presets)

Message from the artist:
Hi ! This is a soundtrack made for the OSTJam#3 by Lone Rabbit

"Here you may enter the world of small Éloïse !
Chosen she was to bring peace among the now corrupted and feuding spirits of the seasons by any means she sees fit.

Though she refused her task at first, the situation is now dire and she needs to act.
Along her journey she will discover in herself dark powers to aid herself on her quest from a mysterious force of the Darkness and the Night
Although It seems friendly as it offers a place to rest and plan, it is also is oddly familiar to her abilities; Whether she chooses to trust It is of her own choice."

I'm part of a collective of composers who brainstormed the lore of the game and divvied up the themes it would probably need.
Each season has a world theme, a boss battle theme for the frenzied guardian spirit, and a healed theme for that same guardian spirit + a main theme and a healed/boss battle theme for the "fifth spirit of the purple corner the girl is looking into in the picture".
The imaginary game was envisioned as some sort of a Zelda with Undertale story mechanics, so you can choose to complete each spirit's character arcs in a pacifist or in an agressive way, by either submitting them or appeasing them. That way, each spirit can be the final boss if you "mess up somewhere"

We are each submitting as individuals, but the collective's compiled OST can be found here. https://sharp15studios.bandcamp.com/album/a-story-of-seasons-game-jam-ost

Theme:

Story of Seasons
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
On the picture we see the four seasons with a stylised character in it
The little girl seems to be either pouting or reading, and turns her back away from the seasons and into the dark portion of the image

So the idea was that this posture was a renouncement of some kind, and that the darkness was it's own entity but not shown in the image (or represented by the girl)

Hence the idea that the girl was to bring balance to divided seasons by looking for the different character representing them
and having a place to rest in her preferred environment (colour scheme)

The spirits of the seasons have to be reconciled within each other and the darkness so that they agree to share the day, and to lend a bit of their essence for the darkness to endure the night alone
A moral derived from there is that one can pout in the dark for so long before it becomes painful and once you come out you may have to tend to a world you do not recognise with either care or aggressivity

The production quality on this is awesome, really high quality arrangements

Developer

Thank you so much ^^

Really amazing project! I really dig it, my favorite it's Tenebra Eternalis, i really love how you combine the synth and the orchestra together, really cool!

Developer

Thank you ^^
It lacked that little FF7R juice without the synth x'D

I really liked your too, very delicate and subtle ^^

Submitted(+1)

A cohesive project! I was surprised when that metal track came in halfway through, but definitely not in a bad way. You really nail that classic RPG nostalgia.

Developer

Thanks man :)
we're probably going to add non-entry tracks to the bandcamp playlist ^^ and rework things to make it even more cohesive
Thanks again from me and from all me buddies for taking the time to listen ^^

I absolutely love all of these tracks! Lots of beautiful subtlety, even in the most frantic moments of Tenebra Eternalis. I can tell you put a lot of time into the automation of your orchestral parts. Fantastic production throughout also!

Developer

Thank you for all those praises ^^
Honestly some parts are automated but some instruments aren't (mainly because my computer turned into a potato half-way through x)
I relied heavily on orchestration and layering to get the sound i wanted ^^
Thank you again

Very good work , I enjoyed your tracks!

Developer

Thank you ^^

You could easily put this in a game just the way it is, without even needing to tweak it a little bit.

It's THAT good!

I think the more action paced tracks are the ones I prefer, but in reality everything is exceptional!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks you ^^
It's nice to see i did not hallucinated this being good x)
I'm really glad you enjoyed your time :)

Excellent result! Tenebra Eternalis was my favorite! Very well composed and produced!

Developer

Thank you man ^^

Great tracks. Love the bell sounds. Great quality and composition as well.

Awesome job!!

Developer

Thank you a lot ^^
i'm so happy you liked the composition :)
(i found most of the bells on pianobook.co.uk it's completely free ^^)

Submitted(+1)

These are all great. I particularly like Tenebra Eternalis, it reminds me of the boss battles in The Binding of Isaac!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you ^^
That's a really nice compliment

Also i saw the stream the other day, thank you for covering everyone ^^
(the nice winds are the "Recorders" from Embertone if you're interested to check them out ^^)

The sample libraries you used sound sooo good, and the melodies also work incredibly well. If only you could have written my orchestral section haha

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much man ^^
I think i'll edit my description to put in the librairies, lots of things are free or cheap (and others are kind of expensive)

Thanks for the compliment on the melodies, i nitpick and try to make everything flows but it's always super nice to hear that i didn't hallucinate the music sounding good x'D

Re-listening to your submission, i think you have nothing to worry about considering your chosen aesthetic (which is dope btw) :)
the orchestral parts you made really do what they have to do under the synth scape, it's nice and heavy and it gives poise to the music ^^

Wow, I... honestly can't imagine the amount of work that went into this ! I'm curious of how much of it are plugins, and how much are live recordings.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot man ^^
I listened to yours too and it's really awesome (you should come to our discord server where we talk a lot about japanese music, you'd fit right in ^^)

It's all samples librairies and i'm SO HAPPY you are considering that some instruments are real ^^
(i can give you a list of the librairies i used, some of them are really really nice and cheap/free ^^)

You and your collective did a really impressive body of work. It's awesome to see what a group of talented people can pull off when working in unison. The orchestration is mind boggling from my point of view, being a musician focused on ambient/industrial/minimal/rock stuff. The video of your midi layers had me like.... Whoa 😅

Developer(+1)

Thanks you so much ^^
Yeah, everyone really went the extra mile using whatever they had at the time, some were in school, some at work, it's really awesome that we managed to make the cut :)
And thanks again for your compliment, orchestration is something i'm really trying to get a grip on '^^
it's kind of like mastering the different paths to synthesis (which i definitely don't lmao) the concepts are simple but there are  SO MANY OPTIONS x'D
Anyway, i'm really glad you liked what you heard ^^

Tenebra Eternalis is a fantastic boss theme and has especially nice contrast to the other two songs. I especially like the choral and woodwind fills, and can easily picture this in a final fantasy game fighting a giant monster of darkness. Great blend of orchestrals with synths, and great job overall!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, orchestration is something i'm working on a lot these days and i'm glad it shows :)
I can see my tendency to listen to a lot of Final Fantasy for reference did not go unnoticed '^^ (BUSTED ! xD)
(also : i know what you can do, so the compliment is very well taken ^^)

It takes a final fantasy soundrackaholic to know a final fantasy soundtrackaholic

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah !!!!!!

Lovely voicings! Great orchestration across every song, cool stuff!

Developer

Thank you so much ^^

Cool orchestration! Second track is my favorite, love that lead synth and groove^^

Developer(+1)

ah yessssss the E P I C one
Thanks a lot ^^
i'm really proud of it :)

Submitted(+1)

My vote is that Safe in the Shadows is the best here. Could fit well in a game or movie.

Developer

Oh man, thank you so much ^^
Fun fact :  this one was made in the 10 hours before the end and almost didn't made the cut xD
i'm happy it did now ^^

Submitted(+1)

This definitely feels like it could be a soundtrack to a real game. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

That's probably one of the best compliments ^^
thank you for taking the time to listen!

This project's concept reminds me of that of my own for this jam, which I dig. That boss theme reminds me quite a bit of Disgaea, which I also dig.

Developer

Thanks so much man ^^
gonna check out your submission too

Also thanks for the reference, i never heard of Disgaea :)
